The supremely talented Sam Lalor appears to be firming as the favourite to be taken at pick 1 in next weeks National Draft. Unfortunately, calling these FULL season highlights is rather wishful thinking on my part as Lalor suffered through a series of injuries in 2024 which severely limited the amount of footy he was able to play.

I can almost guarantee Carlton will pick Draper. You can see why. He’ll be brought over with the Camporeale boys and thus he’ll feel comfortable and less chance of homesickness. He does provide a point of difference for their midfield too.
Knowing that, do we give Adelaide 11 and 18 for 4 thus keeping 6 and 10?

Its gone quiet but months ago were apparently frothing over Faull,
Confirmation. Morro = Hicksy.

Port won't do the trade that early. The vast majority of trades on draft night will be live.

We can really cash in when it gets to pick 10 and 11. Get whoever we like at pick 10 and then Port will be desperate to trade ahead of West Coast to get pick 11. Could be 11 for 13 & 29
Can see alot of desperadoes on draft night.

Stk-Pick 8 for sale
West Coast-Homeboy Allan
Port-If Armstrong still on the table @ 10.
Coll/Cats/Bombers come calling..
If we play our cards right we could end up with 3 f1s plus our own and still have 6-7 picks in this draft.

From the same person who told me back in early September that we would be selecting Sam Lalor at pick 1 when everyone else had him 5-8 range..

1. Lalor
2. Tauru
3. Jagga
4. FOS

Leaving Draper, Langford, Smillie on the board for the Dees, and therefore two of those three for us.

Apparently the Crows don’t like Draper. Unsure if it’s on field or off field related.

Blues have traded up for Jagga they think, not FOS.

Crows locked on FOS but heavily considering trading up to pick 2 in case north or blues change their mind and call out Finn’s name which would ruin Adelaide’s plans.

Wouldn’t normally share, but given where it’s come from, thought it was worthwhile. Do with that what you will.
I'd LoL if we take Fos

I genuinely would not be against us taking Draper at 1 or trading up to take him at 2.

I hadn't looked much into him till the last few nights, he is seriously impressive.

Could almost argue the pick of the trio when comparing Lalor / FOS / Draper.

A lot of early phantom top 10’s included Murphy Reid in them. Even ones after combine was over. Now a lot have him slipping. Any reason for this?

I could be wrong but I would see him rated in that 5-10 bracket. Now seems in that 10-20 bracket

Bit of the old go home factor with Murphy. If we don't take him then it's all interstate teams for about 5 picks.

Been number 2 on my rankings pretty much all season. Him and Jagga together would change our midfield instantly

Will be an A grader - absolute plug n play banker along with Jagga. Lalor, FOS, Smillie, Reid, Tauru, Langford are all risky but potentially higher ceilings. I feel like we need at least one banker.

Brown vs JVR was the obvious draft miss.

I think RFC spoke to the GWS KPFs like Riccardi & Himmelburg but they resigned up there.

Cadman is improving but averaging 1.3 goals. I'd prefer to extract one of the Dogs KPFs.

Funnily Brown went forward late 2024 and kicked 4 goals. Leave Balta back & 193 Brown forward.

Why did we let Chol & CJ go in 2021?

Dusty, Lynch & Bolton $million contracts meant we couldn't match. Lynch was the lynch pin and having to paying 300 ~ 400 k a game in 2023 would've been the end of Meehan for me.

JVR has a lot to prove before I’d regard Brown v JVR as a ‘miss’.

In 2024, of 54 x KPF’s to play 10+ games, JVR was ranked (I’ve put the recently delisted Membrey rankings as a point of comparison)

Player rating: 34th (Membrey 18th)
Disposals: 26th (11th)
Inside 50’s: 45th (12th)
Marks: 31st (12th)
Contested Marks: 30th (40th)
Marks I50: 32nd (31st)
Goal averages: 29th (26th)
Goal assists: 38th (18th)
Si’s: 33rd (29th)
1v1: 29th (9th)
Pressure acts: 43rd (15th)
Hit outs: 8th (27th)

So let me say I realise JVR does some ruckwork which will negatively impact his goals and other stats. And he’s also young and likely on the improve, whilst Membrey is older and declining.

But JVR is also pretty lumbering. He doesn’t have many ‘tricks’ and I’m not sure if he will end up being much better than Lefau, Kosi or Bauer.

So I’m not panicking about Brown over JVR at this stage as for me it’s way too early to tell if JVR ends up breaking out like a Josh Treacy, or meandering into being a Matt Taberner. If he cops the best defender every week I really can’t see JVR exploding into anything special as he’s just not athletic or skilled enough.
