See the boys in the team photo with Edwards? Some of them are now 180-190cm+ as 18 year olds. I used to be considered tall but I certainly don’t feel that way these days.
IF - I haven’t done my weekly column and my editor is banging the door down
THEN - I will google “North Melbourne”, read what they’ve been up to lately and mention that, regardless of whether it makes sense
The opportunities are just insane. Even the different tiers of private school, I went to one out in Truganina for a fair bit of my schooling and it was basically destitute compared to St Kev’s, Xavier etc.
Hence why my kid has been in swim lessons since six months old and will be Auskicking as...
Supervised a swim meet at one AGSV school one year and a school which will remain nameless had their kids rock up in wetsuits. To swim 50 metres. Because the pool was outdoor. We can’t all be open water swimmers but geez, a wetsuit for a heated pool?!
From memory the last round of regular season is mid July, then finals. Should be done by August. As a year 12 he would not have summer sport commitments (and now as an AFL listed athlete he would be exempt from those anyway).
Jacob mentioned on AFL 360 that he would require a COVID test before even entering the club. Mentone’s firsts are permitted to train during lockdown, no word yet whether they will continue the AGSV Firsts fixture.
You’ve gotta play third fiddle to Filthy and Brahj in that lineup though. The oyster might turn out to be one of those three day old ones that looks ok when you’re five beers in at the family Christmas lunch but leaves you driving the porcelain bus that evening.
Best available recruit this off season lives in your own house and you couldn’t even sign her. SAD!
Looking forward to many on field battles this season.
Being a North Melbourne supporter and having a shelf full of runner up netball trophies, losing finals is kind of my area of expertise so I’ll feel right at home.
My rule is you only get quality dirt to use against Filthy if we’re playing his team or he’s done something to annoy me. He does...
What’s up fellow Bears?
Former Bear here from seasons 19-21 (I think). Forced into early retirement due to the demands of primary school teaching (they tend to look down on you spending all day on Bigfooty and setting writing prompts like “Why the Furies are a Bunch of Campaigners”).
Anyway...
That’s precisely how it felt for me. Like yes, they’ll be upset at first but it’s better than being a burden on them forever. You also have a lot of negative self talk that affects your perception of relationships. With depression it’s easy to convince yourself that your loved ones actually...

Can’t even put into words how important it is that your son has done this, and how helpful this might be for his peers who are struggling with either a diagnosed mental illness or something they think might be one but they don’t know how to go about getting help.
When I was in high school...
Just give them totally false info pre game. “Yeah nah, we’re excited to introduce Ben Brown in his new role as a key defender, and we have rookie listed Brent Harvey and expect his comeback match any day now”
That’s disgusting. I can’t imagine how angry everyone involved would be, including the medical staff involved in Majak’s care, who would understand the importance of privacy and the need to give people space to recover.
Perhaps the “friends” quoted in these articles need to actually consider...
Spot on. Lack of access to mental health care is a massive hurdle in the way for many people. First you’ve got to acknowledge the fact that you might need help, which is a huge first step for a lot of people. Then you have to find someone who deals with your particular issue, then get a...
The other issue is that people’s well-meaning platitudes can actually do more harm despite it not being their intention at all. Someone who has never been suicidal might say to a depressed person “You have so much to live for, think of your family”. The depressed person doesn’t think that ending...
Five week old over here. There are days when I cry more than the baby does and when my husband gets home he has to calm me down as well as the baby. Maternal and child health nurses do a great job evaluating mums - I was sorted out very quickly with an increase in antidepressants- but dads...
Absolutely a thing. You get everything you’ve wanted or worked towards and you still aren’t happy. Then it becomes “what’s wrong with me? Will I ever feel happy?”. It’s one reason postnatal depression and anxiety are so awful - lots of women try for and long to have a baby, then have one and...
Been a while since I posted but it’s been a sad day and I think many North people are reaching out to others today.
From personal experience, the most difficult day of your life isn’t the day you decide to make an attempt on your own life. It’s the day you wake up in hospital to find out that...
Two wins? What's going on here? I should go AWOL more often.
(In all seriousness, sorry Bears, I know I suck. NAPLAN week next week and work has been absolute hell.)
