some have had their day in the sun too long...its time to make way for 4 bright sparks....

if wojo can walk...he is in...period
Gamble is much better than some fringe hangers and a quality part time forward
Egan speaks for himself
Hawkin...see wojo...he need 22 games under his belt..rain hail or shine

Varcoe and Lonergan (replaced by Gamble and Hawkins)

As much as it pains me to say it Rooke isn't in our best 22 now unless Milburn retires. I love the guy and thought 2008 would be his year but he has gone backwards. Even then he isn't as valuable as Wojo.

Personally I think Milburn will retire

It will kind of be a blessing in disguise if Dash retires(not that I want him too) but Egan will be playing every game next year no doubt and there's one more spot in the team to fill for a fringe player to get some experience....ala, Tom Hawkins! :D

You've got rocks in your head if you think Maxy isn't in our best 22. The guy is our specialist hard nut. He attacks the ball like no other Geelong player and reminds me alot of Buddha Hocking. Nope, Maxy definately retains his spot in the side for mine. The players I'm sus about are Lonergan, Mooney, Stokes and maybe Varcoe. So mostly our forwards. We need to piss off Lonergan and Mooney and bring in the Tomahawk and Vegas. Stokes didn't respond to the rev up he copped from Bomber at quarter time so he's on very thin ice.

I don't think dasher will retire. I know he would prefer to end his career on a high and if we don't learn from yesterday then there's something seriously wrong with this footy club!

I agree with bringing in all those guys. It's just too bad that Prismall did his knee and will miss all of '09, or I would include him as well (he was playing well before the injury).

I hope Egan plays all of next season. I would play Gamble or Hawkins at full-forward, or maybe play both with Mooney, and have a three talls in the forward lines, which would stretch most backlines. As for Lonergan, I would retain him, and play him in his best position, half-back. Lonergan had his best ever game in the game he got his horrific injury, and during that game, he was fantastic in the backline. Thompson should have tried him back there when he returned to football. Lonergan could even replace Milburn, if Milburn retires.

I would also put Travis Varcoe up for trade. Thompson showed faith in him by promising not to drop him to replace Chapman in the Grand Final, and Varcoe did not repay that faith. He is a great tackler and runner, but doesn't get enough of the ball, or kick enough goals. So if we keep him, he needs to add to his game.

I don't think people should be too quick to judge Kelly's performance. He was clearly lacking condition after his month out. You could see half way through the first quarter that he was struggling with the pace of the game. The heat wouldn't have helped his cause either.

If Stokes has op then he too should be excused.

The criticism should be directed at the match committee for including unfit players.

the knives are out...it has begun.

relax people, we are still the best team going around. Just need to establish a better forward structure that can still be effective when the opposition has 2-3 spare men in defense as the hawks did yesterday.

There is no guarantee Egan will ever get back, and whether Hawkins can make it as an AFL forward is open to question (plus his continuing foot problems).

Gamble needs to have a good preseason and play the vast majority of the games next year.

I think Egan will play again, but it may not be next year. By that stage i'm not sure if he will be able to recapture his best.

The thing to remember with Tom Hawkins is that for all his physical gifts he's still just a boy, and on top of that someone who never really played a lot of hard physical footy before he reached this level. IT's not like Carey or Brown who had played senior footy against grown men prior to entering the system. He will be a player, make no mistake about it, he's just got to harden up.

I do agree that we need to find a place for Gamble in the side. Can play tall or small and is generally a good finisher, something we sorely lacked yesterday.

He's an absolute champ! Barely on 60 games and already is an All Australian.

Does anybody remember his debut game vs Richmond where he toweled up Richo?

Yeah mate, I loved it, especially when he got a heavy hit backing back into a pack but bounced straight to his feet. Tough, courageous and a damn good player:thumbsu:, if he comes back it will help.

Also Gamble and Hawkins will be good

seriously some ppl need to relax, milburn will not retire, if he mentioned retirement, he was speaking on raw emotion after a shattering GF loss, some people are even talking about giving up their membership after one off day.
I can't believe that some ppl are saying mooney, varcoe & even kelly have had their "time in the sun", honestly, we had one bad game, and winning 44/46 games takes its toll on the players, the port loss last year was good for the team, they realised they were vunerable. In the finals we didn't play our very best, there were glimpses, but even against the saints, we weren't awesome for the 4 qtrs. I think we need hawkins, he's a massive unit, who can crash packs, rip down marks and push defenders around.

Kelly is clearly in our best 22, he had been out of the game for several weeks, and he would have still been sore from the previous week, ablett stated how sore he was the first few weeks back after injury, varcoe needs another pre-season where he can build himself up and develop all aspects of his game. Moon's just had a shocker, sh^t happens.

Also egan, next year he'll def play, but he won't play every game, he'll have the occassional week off. foot injuries are very delicate, naturally pressure is constantly on that area, and by trying to come back during the finals last season, that would have set him back a bit further.

Remember when brisbane went backtobacktoback, they didn't dominate each week in the same fashion as geelong have, they were awesome but they did drop the odd game which provides a reality check. the cats have had their reality check, in the worst way possible, but will be back in '09. Even clarkson didn't go as far to say hawthorn would be the benchmark next year, which says something, they played their best and caught us on an off day.

Carn the hairy pussy's for '09.

agreed, but don't forget that Gamble will also be good next year no doubt
