Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Yeah same. I said if he has a monster preseason then he'd definitely be in the best 22. Well he didn't have the preseason I wanted, so it voids the second part of the prediction but I did expect big things.
Easily the best pre-season and easily the fittest he's ever been, from what I hear.
Shit form is shit form is shit form.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Jay Neagle is still our best forward who will unfortunately be picked up next year by GWS and then dominate there.

Hird and the coaching panel have formed a view about him and nothing he does will change it. He is a forward yet plays in the backline.

All I want is for Neagle to be judged by the same standards as Gumby and Hurley. Compare the contested marks, goals kicked etc. and Neagle is doing very well. However of course a 8 posession, 1 goal game by Gumby or Hurley in the forwardline is somehow okay as opposed to a player who is the only genuine full forward on our list and someone who actually understands the concept of a mark and a lead.

Alright, let's do that. Like for like.
At the age Hurley is now: (and, forgetting for a moment, that Neagle was in the system a year younger)

Hurley @21 has had as low as '8 touches' (your number, not mine) once in his career, got double figures all bar 2 games. Averaging 5 marks & 15 touches, 0.8 goals (playing back for about half his career)
Neagle @ 21 had had double figures 4 times out of 20 matches, was averaging 3.3 marks and 6.8 touches.
Gumby @ 21 was broken and only played the 5 games, double figures 2 times, averaging 5 marks and 8 touches and 0.6 goals, altho he had (like Hurley) also played back.

That is a like-for-like comparison.
Neagle had done slightly better in his 4th listed year than a 1st year.

He is just not a good footballer, he can mark and kick but EVERYTHING else is sub-par.

They're welcome to him. Sydney league will suit him.

Yeah I agree with this actually.
They've got a view that he has to do something to earn a recall. Doing nothing, as you so aptly put it, doesn't change their view.

He's played fwd every game ive seen over the last month and a bit. Plays higher up the ground due to Little and Dickson but he just doesnt give a shit.

Where exactly did you get your figures from?

At the same age Neagle averaged more marks, more tackles and more goals then Hurley. Not to mention that Hurley's additional possessions (double) are due to him playing in the back half (and same can be said for Neagle's additional goal count). However it remains that both players when playing FORWARD have had very similar output.

With regards to Gumby yes he was injured but as was Neagle. Neagle suffered plenty of injuries during his first few years at the club.

So lets compare career statistics averages.

Gumby averages 2 more disposals the Neagle (depite playing as a CHF who roams the grounds).

I still maintain Neagle is our best full forward and if given the oppurtunity would do very well and perform better then Hurley or Gumby in the full forward position.

With regards to Bendigo- based on reports I have read he is not playing as a full forward/forward and more playing up/stints in defence. I see no reason why Neagle cannot be played as a full forward and rotated with Little/Steinberg.

I sourced the stats from www.footywire.com

footywire: neagle (23 years) & gumby (22yrs 10 months) up 'til the completion of 2009 vs Hurley (21) 'til 2011.

Not really. Hurley's kicked bags of 4 about 3 times vs good AFL opposition, Neagle hasn't even managed 4 in the VFL, or the AFL, ever.

Take away Jay's accuracy, he's a nothing footballer. He's destroyed by quarter-time every week and he's doing nothing in the 2s.

But whatever. Not producing in the 2s = should be picked in the 1s. Great way to set a standard.
I will be thankful if GWS (or anyone) pick him up.

That translates to "I have not seen him play this year".

In the VFL games I've attended he has played forward, and played average at best. He's just not hungry enough to make a career out of AFL football. It is what it is...

Jay's always hungry...

Re: 34. Jay Neagle

Probably Aaron Edwards/Chris Tarrant at the moment.

With an improved tank I could see him playing a bit of a Embley/O'Keefe role.

Given the opportunity, I have absolutely no doubt this kid will make it. None at all.
LOL'ed.
Usually a very good poster, too.

Just shows you how much of a part hard work plays, and why clubs do all the vetting on character, "off-field", "leadership" stuff etc.

Raw talent only gets you so far, even to the best judge's eye.

Jay Neagle, late inclusion into QLD squad after some great form over the last few weeks in the NEAFL. Seems to be finding his feet and getting into some good form. looks to be very happy and good luck to him.
