Re: 1. Jay Neagle

The good thing is that he can have the surgery now.

We're still months away from the pre-season and should be ready to go by then. Once he can get some miles into his legs, he'll go from strength to strength and it appears he's well placed to do thar for 2009.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

If the bloke stays fit(touch wood) were so much more dangerous as a side moving forward. We played our best football with him in the side last year and with positive signs on Friday night I'm hoping like hell we can have him on the park along side Gumbleton.

Pretty happy to have Jay as my Player adoption :thumbsu:

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

An interesting point is Jay is he is beginning to look like the type of player that can turn it on at AFL level without being too crash hot in the two's.

There was a few times last year where he didn't really impress in the VFL then got selected for Essendon and really started to show his talent.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Needs to stay fit this year as he has been on the list for a while now but undoubtedly is important to Essendon as he has the potential to be our FF for the next decade. Played ok on the weekend but goes missing too often. Fitness needs to be improved. Looking forward to seeing him and Gumbleton again in 2 weeks:thumbsu:

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

You never hear about Neagle doing anything outstanding at training, VFL or intra-club matches, but impresses EVERY single time he steps out on an AFL field. Certain starter in our best 22 for mine.

I actually thought he played really well on Friday night. Whenever the ball was kicked down to him I thought he was very good. I also remember seeing him doing a fair bit of chasing in our foward 50 when the dogs were chipping it round the back line, I thought that was a positive sign.

I can see why you think he goes 'missing' during a game, but I think that is due more to the position he plays as well as constant injuries (i.e. not alot of games played, training etc). He plays quite deep in the foward line and so if the ball isn't kicked there, he won't get it. I would like to see the ball kicked to him more often though because I think he is very good in one-on-one situations.
Plus, staying injury free can only improve his fitness too :)

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

He looked great on Friday. Used his pace on the lead a few times and also used his body well in a number of contests. He's also very good once it hits the ground and it will be difficult for other teams to find a good match up for him because of this. He just needs to get into more contests to become a very valuable player.

I thought his game was typical Neagle. Make a good impact and look very impressive when he is actually contesting for the ball but then he will suddenly go missing only to bob up with something special a quarter later. He needs greater consistency and I don't think claims of Fevola are too far of the mark....Neagle can be something special....amazing as he was a father/son that nobody really rated...except the club:thumbsu:

Having completed one of his first proper pre seasons, providing some luck with injury Neagle may be install for a break out year. A greater fitness base will be a vital role in the development of Neagle. He often ran out of puff in games last season, hopefully 2009 will be the year of the son of Merve.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Gone off the ground up in Bendigo injured yet again.

foot/ankle getting looked at according to the guys on radio.

Nothing serious from what i saw and the bench was right in front of me. Looked more like he was cramping in the calf.

As for his game. Simply should not be in the seniors for mine. Has only one or two second efforts and he is gone. Sides will be lining up to run blokes off him all day.

Hmmm, not fit enough, injury prone... now where have I heard that before?

On a positive at least he's stringing games together. I think he might be the type of guy that once he gets 10-12 games into his body we'll see a dramatic improvement.

I'd play him VFL round 1 and bring him back for the Freo game round 2 to try and stretch their defence.

Dont start that shit again
I cant help it if you dont know the difference between being not match fit and being fat!!!!!
I dont think anyone argued that he was injured a lot or needed to play some games in a row.
