Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Another thing that has impressed me with him is his willingness to play on when he is not the end of the chain and his ability to kick to other players advantages. This is a skill that I believe isn't taught. He is ever improving, hopefully we can get to the stage where he kicks us 50-60 goals a year.

Jay Neagle name pronunciation

Thought you guys would know best - is it pronounced so it rhymes with Eagle or Bagel?

Im having an ongoing argument with a mate.

Cheers

Re: Jay Neagle name pronunciation

Don't care if it's Neegle or Nagle so long as he gets the ball but more importantly chases hard not the way he does like Anthony Rocca atm

Re: Jay Neagle name pronunciation

My boss grew up with the real Merv Neagle and says it rhymes with Eagle, not Bagel.

Yup. Went to school with Jay's sister.

I always thought that was the real Merv Neagle.

Next I'll find out that Whomb's not a real Whomb.

My whole world is falling down around me...

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

I know he had a stinker but i hope Knighter persists with him for the rest of the year. We really need to get games into him and the more he plays at AFL level, the more match fitness he will have.

He desperately needs some injury free pre-seasons so lets hope his body can hold up.

Re: Jay Neagle name pronunciation

its pronounced neagle as in eagle....no bagels there!!! and give him a chance...he will come good!! we(as in family) are very proud of him...

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Jay's about 2 solid pre-seasons away before he can really impact games for 4 quarters.

People need to remember how little fitness base he's coming off.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Has Jay ever been trialed as a defender at Bendigo?

After Hurley's success up forward against the doggies, a switch for Neagle may be a good move. As we all know he possesses great speed off the mark, great strength and decent field kicking. Just a thought...

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

I am a big fan, but i also believe that Knights must take a tough stance with Jay. His endurance and work ethic are simply not up to standard, He has a presence on the field when roaming the forward line with confidence and we certainly need to see it more often. My personal opinion is that Knights needs to tell him it's either a massive pre-season or the highway, Talented yes but at his current output we could be blooding someone else.

Re: 1. Jay Neagle

Knights was saying somewhere the other day that it might not look like it at times, but he actually has a good attitude. He was sayin it, anyway.

But yes- the preseason to dwarf all other preseasons. A bit of friendly competition between Gumby, Hurley, Still and Jay. I hope they spend Christmas morning and dinner at the base of Cradle Mountain and lunch at its summit.

Season Review 1: Jay Neagle

I'll be starting one of these threads every few days over the next couple of months or so, and we'll cover every player that way.

---

Neagle showed that he has the potential to be a very good forward, with his great hands and excellent kicking, but needs to get some serious fitness into him over the preseason. Fingers crossed he isn't carrying something at the moment, because a full pre-season is exactly what he needs. If he's serious about becoming a top grade player, he needs to absolutely work his arse off this summer, lose a bit of weight, and get the sort of fitness Lloydy has.

Your thoughts?

Re: Season Review 1: Jay Neagle

He was alright during the season, averaging 3 goals or so a match, and he has lots of upside if he can speed up a little.

PS. Start a Dyson one now

Re: Season Review 1: Jay Neagle

I think with no Gumbleton, no resting ruckman option and the poor form of Lucas Neagle had the chances to really cement his position this year and failed. However I agree he has the weapons to do so, great pair of hands and an excellent kick, and his first 10 meters on the lead isnt slow.

I would love to know where he is at regarding his ankle and whether as reported this stops him from putting the work into his legs that he needs. For me Neagle is the great white hope and I hope he has a wonderful preseason because his fitness levels are that off a local footballer.

Re: Season Review 1: Jay Neagle

I think he has just signed a Two year deal? If so he has to get his act together, he's only ever gonna be a full forward so as Ben said its all about fitness base, he really has to work on 2nd and 3rd efforts. We will be looking for 50 goals from him next year.
