Didn’t he win the Grand Final sprint? I think he is capable of chasing down anyone as long as his tank isn’t running on empty.

Won the GF sprint and has been clocked at the highest sprint speed of any player in the AFL this season. Can run like Usain..............when he has the energy to do so.

Get your point but Jamie, Marley, Scooter, Robbie et al (ie the whole team) would've all also been under more pressure were there 2 additional elite pressure forwards in their lineup.

But lets single out Majak?

All of those players have proven experience as very good defenders under pressure, three have played plenty of finals, 2 are AA etc etc Maj hasn't got those credentials under his belt. If those two were in the side he'd go because he has less than 5 games on the backline and they are two of the craftiest forwards in the game and their physical advantages are specifically able to take advantage of his physical weaknesses.

I'd be a lot less concerned about that specific set up if I was confident he would punch 90% of necessary balls over the boundary and I'll be that confident after he's done it for 10 20 games.

I think he'll be a success down back - switching in the ruck and pushing forward at times he could become a real weapon but maybe not for every game.

Yep, Impey walked through the entire team on several occasions, add Burgoyne and that could have been a lot worse.

And if we had have had a full list to choose from in the second half of 2016, we would have won the flag, instead of losing nearly every game after round 11. We were allowed no excuses in 2016 and there are no excuses for Hawthorn on Sunday.

This can be said about the win in its entirety.

People are talking line in the sand game and finals.

We kicked the shit outta Adelaide last year and wound up bottom 4.

Don't get me wrong promising signs are promising. Expectations should remain tempered.

Its different now. I only just realised today that of our last 6 games we have won 3 by over 50 points and actually had Hawthorn that far down at half time in the other game. In one of the two games we have lost our main match winner was basically rendered not there because of unbelievably unfootballable conditions.

I agree we should be keeping a lid on it because only one of those six games was against good opposition and they were missing two proven match winners. But its not like we snuck over the line. WE demolished two teams we are sposed to be on par with, one we are sposed to be miles behind, and nearly demolished another people were talking about as potential top four (tho perhaps that was unrealistic). I'm not saying finals but if we end up bottom four we will either drop off significantly of the gulf between bottom four and the rest of the field is immense.

He has great straight line speed once he winds up. Rioli and Puopolo could probably catch him over 10 metres tho, and have smaller turning circles.

Further to my post about his work with Taz and Scooter, it is clear the direction is for him to switch and kick at right angle whenever the opportunity is there.

My concern still will be his exit kicks when he hasn't any other option.

He can boot the thing 60m.

He wasn’t too cute on the weekend, when the switch wasn’t on he went long down the line. Good tactics.

He takes 8 or 9 paces to get going, but when he hits full stride he is genuinely quick.

Runs like a 400 metre runner.
Ex-100 metre sprinter here.

He can definitely improve his 15 meter dash which is crucial in footy.

It's all about technique and reaction time for tall blokes...

Improve the 15m dash and add that freakish reach and he could be a weapon.

Maj's presence in the side has far more benefits than deficiencies and it has been demonstrated in front of our very eyes with back-to-back wins. One in particular that would've made Majak out of his comfort zone but he kept going which was great!

He can go forward if required to do so, go back, go into the middle, we have a weapon here.

One thing I liked was Thommo's allowance and ability to hit forwards leading inside our F50. He did this occasionally over his career but not to the extent/frequency he did it on Sunday. That first half was a masterclass from Thommo's ball-use going inside 50. I think Maj allowed that extra freedom because he is a tall defender that has the ability to crush the little guys when they get it.

I was always a believer in Maj, but sometimes, he can be a bit frustrating which is quite annoying considering the fact that his potential or even actual output might be overshadowed by his howlers. Actually, **** the howlers. This guy can make his opponents ask for 10 extra shorts and undies because of how hard he can go into a congested contest.

He also pushes up the ground quite a bit and is not afraid to force himself to sprint back if the play changes direction or influence the next contest early for a ball up/out of bounds result.

Majak, with continuity in his game style development, will return rapid progress. No doubt. Persist.

Don't want him dropped unless for injury reasons or fitness reasons.

Right angles...down the line...basics.

I am talking running out of the backline under pressure and his skill / decision making

After three games, maybe there's enough data for a stats package. After five rounds, where Daw ranks for average stats for North players per game:

# 1 disposal efficiency - 78.1%
# 1 contested marks - 2.7
# 2 hit outs - 5.7
# 3 one percenters - 6.7
equal 5th - rebound 50s - 3

...oh, and a lower clanger rate than some bloke called Robbie Tarrant

I think with the facts before us, it's fair to say Daw is getting a game for more reasons than marketing the Huddle

2.7 contested marks is a good stat.

Where does that rank him league wide?
