Opinion 10 most over rated current players

I had search their profiles to best distinguish which among them was considerably the most valued player and the most famous.

10. Matthew Kruezer
Has show glimpses of great potential, never lived up to the hype.

9. Patrick Ryder
No way will he ever be the best ruck in the comp like all Essendon supporters seem to think.

8. Tom Hawkins
Flavour of the month after his admittedly great performance against the Hawks.. congrats on beating Schoenmakers, the new Zac Dawson! (no, that is too harsh, haha. At least Schoey is starting to come good.)

7. Cyril Rioli
The human highlight reel is good, but nowhere near as good as the media makes him out to be.

6. Brett Stanton
Can be shut down so easily it is pathetic.

5. Nick Riewoldt
Cry baby who will blame anything and everything before himself while in bad form.

4. Tom Scully
Never shown that he was 1st pick material, especially against the likes of Martin or even Trengrove.

3. Todd Goldstein
Rucks well. Does nothing else for his team, basically sucks all-around.

2. Darren Glass
Full-back of the century my left nut.

1. Dale Thomas (Could fit all 10 spots easy)
Is given praise despite never being tagged, slamming home cherry-picked goals, and leeching off the good work of the rest of the midfielders in one of the best sides around.

Hon. Mentions;
Luke Hodge, Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dustin Fletcher, Jarryd Roughead, Ben Reid.

10. ben reid
9. callan ward
8. harry o'brien
7. cyril rioli
6. josh gibson
5. ryan griffen
4. todd goldstein
3. eddie betts
2. robert murphy (luke darcy strikes again!!!)
1. ALAN DIDAK

You've got it right with Ben Reid. Can't see what makes him so good. At all. Can't see why they gave him an AA jersey last year. Callan Ward's performing now, but I guess anyone would look good on the Giants

So I couldn't help but read in the herald sun tehy have recently been doing top 10 lists for guys picked late in the draft and it got me to thinking. Why are these players rated now by the media? On what basis? Cyril Rioli ahead of Anthony Stevens ... anyway onto my list. These are players that IMO are over rated by the media and fans alike.

10. Nick Maxwell
Okay so maybe not as much with the fans as he is pretty much widely known as the worst player to be a captain in a while but the media do love him. Had a woeful season and seems like his best, which really wasn't that good to begin with is, well past him. His worst year in some time and should have probably never been an All Australian in the first place. Disposals has him down to his worst year in 4 years and at times was so out of place was thrown forward. Be interested to see if he stays in the team this year.

9. Justin Koschitzke

Not many rate him any more but he is always mentioned as a wild card or danger man for a big game or final. He isn't. He kicked 15 goals this year as a forward/back up ruck. His best is clearly past him and would not be surprised if he wasn't at the Saints after this year. Of course someone will give him a chance due to the hype.

8. Campbell Brown
Ever wonder why Hawks fans were never that dirty on him leaving? Yeah some of it was because they loved him, the other half was because he is finished. Watching Aaron Edwards run a muck on him was embarrasing. If he does go on he will quickly become the liability in their back line. He still is rated fairly highly in the media though. When is his ability ever been questioned? His physicallity at the man has but he will end up a very grumpy man next season if his form continues. Don't expect the Melbourne media to pick up on it though and question McKenna if he gets dropped.

7. Mitch Clark
Not just because Melbourne paid overs for him. He played as a forward who spent 10% of his time in the ruck this year. He still only kicked 27 and had a paultry 82 hit outs. Clearly they didn't need him in the ruck anymore and if he is kicking 27 goals in a season I can't see him being a permanent forward. Another who falls under the Campbell Brown category of people love the way he looks when he plays. Hard and tough but not really effective.

6. David Rodan
I really like Rodan he has had a touch career with the Richmond delisting and knee injuries. He is also a really good dancer. Is this why he seems to be rated so highly? He averaged an ordinary 15 touches a game this year, which amazingly is ahead of his career average.

5. Majak Daw
Hasn't played a senior game yet may be Norths 2nd or 3rd most known player. Media and fans were calling for him to play Senior footy this season. He does the brilliant but still does the very dumb at times. Is progressing really well from where he has come but everybody needs to calm down.

4. Jarrad Waite
We all heard that he would have pushed the Blues further into the finals. Really? He kicked 16 goals from 12 games. The most he has ever kicked in a season is 36. He is a handy forward or back man. He isn't the KPP that will answer their problems. Injury prone and does stupid things on the field. But he is the saviour allegedly.

3. Nic Naitanui

Like Majak can do the amazing and his performance in that final against Collingwood was amazing, he is getting better but is still not at the level that some speak of. Gerard Healy is the main culprit here. I've heard him say Nic Nat purposely dropped a mark to a crumber. Really?. Will be a superstar if he can find consistancy but isn't yet.

2. Patrick Dangerfield
Only 4 seasons into his career but put a tagger on him and you won't have to worry. Would look like a jet in Geelong or Collingwoods team but when you can tag him out of the game so easily it says a fair bit about his mental application. Is always a favourite with dream teamers and is fantastic when he has the 4 goal 30 touch games. But when he has his 6 touch games you realise he really needs consistency. Will hopefully get there but not just yet.

1. Cyril Rioli
Probably the most over rated footballer I have ever seen. When Buddy went down against Geelong some media outlets and fans were calling for Cyril to be the focus up forward. Had they done that, Sydney would have played Collingwood in the prelim. Is a beautifully skilled footballer but just doesn't get enough of it or kick enough goals. Sometimes you wonder if his name was Jack Smith and he played for Fremantle if he would get the same media attention. My guess is no.

You're an idiot if you think Campbell Brown's overrated. He goes hard every match. No self preservation. Constantly beating much bigger players. It's also become apparent that he's a great leader as well at the Suns

Thanks for proving my point "he goes hard every match"

Got Dangerfield wrong, Cyril still over rated, very comparable stats to Lindsay Thomas this year who no one rates outside of North.

10. Tom Hawkins-

9. Michael Hurley- Seems a bit of a down hill skier. He's had 4/5 years and shown us what?

8. Brett Stanton- Plays half a good season and all of a sudden the last 5 years are forgotten.

7. Nic Nat- Being able to jump makes you the most exciting player in the league now apparently.

6. Travis Cloak- Slow and dumb.

5.Tom Scully- He got his money. Can he start showing something?

4. Paddy Ryder- Goes missing a lot. Occasionally pops up when his team is 80 ahead.

3. Daisy Thomas- Played a few good finals but most times i see him play does little to effect the game.

2. Garlett/Yarran-

1. Jarred Waite- Blues fans should probably stop pinning their hopes on him.

Never seen a worse list in my life personally

1. Justin Koschitzke
2. Kossie
3. That bloke who was no.2 in 2000 draft
4. St Kilda's full forward
5. Justin Koschinsky
6. Justin Gregory Koschitzke
7. Rooey's mate
8. The number 23 from St Kilda
9. That champion from St Kilda who has never finished in the top 9 in B & F after 12 years*
10. M Hurley

chris judd - no longer the messiah he once was, yet is still treated as though he were

michael hurley - could be a future star, however everyone talks him up as his currently the best CHF in the game

cyril rioli - does do some magical things, but the way people (ie the channel 7 commentary team) go on about him, youd think he was BOG every week

tom scully - basically considered a star because of his draft ranking, hasnt shown a whole heap but still looks to be a player of the future

dustin martin - it pains me to say, but his hype AT THIS STAGE is greater than what hes been able to deliver on the field, hope that his able to overcome this years plateau next season

travis cloke - basically had one decent season of footy and now people are willing to offer him 1mill+ a year pfft...

jimmy bartel - since GAJ left, he hasn't been anywhere near the player he was (GF performance was very very good though)

bryce gibbs - one of the softest players ive seen, will never be anything more than an unaccountable back flanker

josh caddy - hasnt shown enough to suggest he will be anything more than a solid footsoldier, yet some are saying he is worth more than a first round pick o_O

sam reid - promising, but not the best player under 21 in the game as a news paper columnist claimed earlier in the year

And again in your following 2 weeks (the last 2 weeks of your season).

Lol I like this one haha.

1. Bartel - Ranked 8th by Mike Sheahan this year, 20th last year. Ranked No.2 player in the comp by the fans in an AFL survey. Failed to even make the AA squad last year and probably won't trouble it this year either.
2. Cloke - when you think about it, he's not down on form. This IS his form. He's had one or two standout years, and been only promising in other years.
3. Kositschke - just for getting a game.
4. Kreuzer - still being rated on potential.
5. Smedts - Heard about the 'uber-talented' Smedts all pre-season. Disappointing, even for a debutant.
6. O'brien, Harry - Looks nice running off half-back, but has no idea what to do with the ball once he gets it.
7. Ablett - how about some metres gained? First instinct is always to go sideways or backwards.
8. Waite - Mr.Potential
9. Fyfe - bad kicking constantly overlooked
10. C. Judd - king of the media snowjob.

Have to agree on this one (even though you flog it like a dead horse). People got a bit excited from his finals last year, but last years season wasn't outstanding, nor the year before that honestly. This season he is a shell of his Brownlow days, although plays his role.

People overrate him due to finals, but I think even the most biased cats supporter would concede he hasn't dominated a H&A season for a while.

Hurley is number 1 for me.... decent defender, but not the second coming.

He's down on form compared to last year is what people say, given last year he had nearly twice as many contested marks as the next best player, that's probably fair enough. Previous years isn't too relevant when comparing just this and last year.

Worst post in the history of the world.

Also, perhaps you should find out who is leading the meters gained stat...

Ok.
10. Brendan Goddard. Got all of the outside ability, but really struggles to win his own ball.
9. Chris Judd. Legitimate legend of the game, past his consistent, damaging best.
8. Ryan Bastinac. Decent running player who is good at picking up cheap possies.
7. Matthew Scarlett (this year only). Has been poor this year and is a shadow of his former self.
6. Cyril Rioli. It's not that he isn't good. He is probably the best small forward in the comp. It's that whatever he does is highlighted beyond that of any other player in the comp.
5. Dale Thomas. Been poor this year, even considering his injury problems. Impacted very few games, and for a guy on his pay packet with the expectation that he has on him, it has been a horrible return.
4. Brent Stanton. Had a blistering start to the year, but has really shown the optimum level he can rise to. When given a run with player, really struggles.
3. Jack Trengove. Harsh being only a third year player, but has done very little to show that he is headed for superstardom.
2. Travis Cloke. Was underated in 2010, now he is ridiculously over rated. Has a lot of deficiency's in his game for a supposed superstar.
1. Jimmy Bartel. Obvious finals ability, but does he do as much as needed every week to get the Cats in the finals?
