As I said elsewhere I can see why the players chose him.

But realistically he's been rewarded with continued selection and captaincy of this footy club based off one good season three years ago (plus being emotionally there during a tough few years). A season in which he had to be shuffled around to find form.

Survives because of the casuality list around him.

I know it doesn't matter now and will be forgotten, but its absolutely soul destroying and disheartening to see YOUR CAPTAIN kick across goal and off one step and kick it out on the full.
This is the guy setting standards.
This is the guy who will give you a bake if you don't zone up correctly or don't go to spoil and take the body when its your turn to go, or rip into you if you dare leave your man loose at a stoppage. Who the hell is enforcing these basic fundamentals? Can you guys imagine any of this s**t being allowed to stick at Collingwood or Geelong? No chance. No f*****g way. They wont stand for it.

It absolutely embarrassing and cancerous for development that he is the leader and the one tasked with implementing and enforcing the coach's instructions out on the field and the training track. Not only is he incapable but he serves to undermine Clarko and the gameplan. He simply cant deliver what this playing group need.
There is nothing endearing or inspiring about his game or presence and the call just has to be made come seasons end to rid of the captaincy and then make him earn a game. It his lack of leadership and mentoring that sees us once again on a losing streak of 15. Not the whole problem but definitely an integral part of it. The buck stops with the leaders and hes co captain.

Just said it in the Review thread. Looks like an accountant who played in his teens. Its absolute embarrassing that a professional footballer looks like this. Its both embarassing for him that he turns up like this each year and its embarassing that the club ticks this off as acceptable for AFL quality.

It does beg the question were/are the players competent enough to pick the best leader of the footy team? Did they pick McDonald because of his worth as a footballer or because socially he's a good talker & a good clubman? It was probably the latter.

Perhaps it's also a sign of the lack of leaders & good players we have the to lead the team.

Look at this photo of all the 2023 team captains -

Who in that line up could you honestly say McDonald is a better leader or and player than?

The issue for Lmac is he's a good clubman but simply not captain material. It just isn't there.

And It looked 100 times worse when they showed the behind the goal footage during the game.

And it wasn't an accurate call anyway. Even Jonas, who has been playing 2nds for weeks could arguably be more effective on field than McDonald at present. The others... All above him, even if a few are not out and out champions.

North have lacked on-field leadership, at least in an inspirational sense for a few years now. Perhaps since Swallow copped that injury that pretty much cooked him.

Correct. I would take any of the captains referred to in that post in a straight swap for LMac.

Of course, every one of those clubs would laugh at the suggestion. Which says it all.
