By the second half of his first season he was playing on ball, and even that was rare. I think the last first year player to be at a centre bounce before him was Parker about 8 years earlier. But he played his first few games as a forward, and he also dislodged an ageing Kieren Jack to get his opportunity. Looking at our current midfield, I'm not sure I see a Kieren Jack in that group. JPK the obvious candidate, but I'm not prepared to write him off.

reckon there's a bit of k jack about rowbottom

Pretty solid and didn’t appear overawed.
That's really all you can ask for in a debut. He harassed and chased and got in and got busy. That deliberate kick for Heeney's first goal shows his got brains. Well done kiddo.

At least we know where he's at.

Angus Sheldrick had an operation on a cartilage, so he had a bit of work done on his knee so he will be out for a couple of months now.

From today's presser;

I have more faith in our current medical/conditioning crew than previous incarnations.
Get him in for surgery, fix the issue.
Long term prospect, no point in messing about.

Much better than an ACL injury so I am not too upset.

Also yes, from memory I think several of our players have in the past had to play through a similar injury because Swans medicos did not want to send them off for surgery during the season and said players played like crap because they could barely move.

It's not "messing about". Depending on the size of the tear, if you can let it heal naturally you preserve meniscal function. This gives cushioning in the knee joint and protects against long term osteoarthritis of the knee. If he wasn't a professional athlete you would give him longer for it to settle naturally. It's a balance of the long term vs the short term.

:)

Could be completely off, but this guy gives me strong hope we have a Liberatore/Viney on our hands. Nuggety, rough-as-guts left-footer with penetration in his kicking who's a leader and underrated around goals (in Liberatore's case anyway).
Got very, very good hands in close from what I saw in the VFL too. You'd think if he stays healthy and gets a good preseason in he'd be looking at 10+ games next year.

Tend to agree.
I like the components of our midfield but that in-and-under scrapper is missing imo.
Think having Mills and Sheldrick in the middle would provide a lot of opportunities for any of our other inside/outside mids including the likes of Blakey and Florent.
Still a way to go for young Gus but the spot is there for someone of his type.

I think no matter where or how we play Gus his greatest attribute will be that he's never beaten until the siren goes. Everything about him screams competitor.
