Should be in all Australia consideration IMO.
Has to be. How many better key defenders are there who can not only defend, but mark as well as Dave. There's a few who can do either...not many who can do both.

Astbury going would be a mistake, seen him take on and beat the likes of gunston, cloke, waite, hawkins and tippett when he was still a bit underdone and needed time and confidence in his recovering frame, only 24 still will be as good as any key big backman in the next few years if his body holds up and confidence returns, would play him before any of batch, chaplin, griff, bean, without hesitation in 2016. he aint backup... leppa had a good crack at him last year too. only negative is daves body may not be up to it for the long haul.
Well done this man. Got it spot on when most of us were happy to trade him to Brisbane.

Would only be edged by Tross in selection for backs...amazing what a clear run and confidence in your body can do. I always suspected the coaches knew more than most. Couldn't be happier he stayed a Tiger, sensational!!

Fair chance Dave & Alex will be life long friends.

Look I think you need to settle down mate. We didn't even manage a 100 point thrashing, surely we can't expect TWO players in the team of the week? :drunk:
Sorry, sorry. What was I thinking? I keep having this recurring dream that the AFL media are known to be both intelligent and competent.

Out of contract at end of 2019 - can see other clubs coming in with big $$$ for this bloke.

Not that I'm at all concerned, but it will drive the price of his contract up.

Doubt we’ll have any issues signing him.

Very early in his career David was handed the number 12 by the great man himself. I remember thinking wow that's a real complement. I think the Cho must have seen something many didn't at the time. David's not just an incredibly reliable player these days but a genuine team man......Great call by the Cho that is vindicated more every week David plays :thumbsu:....:)

Highly doubt this will happen , Dave will be 29 by the time he plays a game for a new club

I remember going to Craigieburn to watch an intra club game the year Astbury was drafted and that game also included troy taylor
Dave was playing CHF and looked like he would be a great foward , I think he kicked 2/3 goals but was very very good and remember coming away thinking he will be our next CHF - Surprising he never got tried there even as a swingman at times

Troy Taylor was a freaky talent - Too bad he is homeless

Coming up on 50 consecutive games as per http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2018-06-06/astbury-on-a-games-roll

Really has gone through tremendous growth after overcoming what felt like forever of injuries. I personally doubted if he'd ever recover, wishing we had retired #12 when Richo had retired instead of giving it to some supposed hot-shot rookie who failed to deliver initially - but boy am I glad to be wrong.

Well used in defense, really the Cheddar to Rance's biscuit, I wonder how he'd fair if we felt like throwing him forward just to mix things up every now and then? Could be an interesting curve ball.

Wonky knees IIRC.
Might be a bit risky to throw him forward given the extra twisting and turning.
But sure can grab them.
Might be worth a try if one of the young KPD's starts smashing down the door for a back possie.
