Player Watch #12: David Astbury - Has decided to retire

It’s just an incredible feeling to read that Astbury retires as a 3 x Premiership player, so proud, it will be spoken about and celebrated for generations to come.

In a sense, the Premierships won’t sink in until a majority if not all Premiership Tigers go into retirement.

Astbury now has the time to reflect on a great career.

Interesting to read the first few posts of this thread, just to prove how some will write a player off early and can be proven so wrong.

So glad he persevered through all his injury troubles, he has been paid back in spades and given us all so much pleasure with his dower defence over the last few years.

One of the best full backs we have had at Richmond. Besides Rance, name another. Going way back to the 70's and I can't think of too many if any better, more reliable and harder to score on. Had a feeling he might hang up the boots, great timing, great career.

Feeling a little flat hearing that Dave has retired. I was hoping he stuck around another year but he obviously didn't think he could.

I am so grateful that we had Dave in our back line - he was the marshall of the troops and I am sure he will be missed by all players in that backline.

Sad day really. Thank you Dave for being a true Richmond man - you will be missed by the Tiger army xx
