Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

Reminds of the GAJ situation..

Either way the club is (rightly imho) taking an ultra conservative view and not risking guys for mere 'skirmishes' with the view of winning THE war!

Hope Karma catches up with merrett for all of his thuggery, either that or crameri returns the favour next time we play them.

It's a man's game. I like the physicality that Merret brings to the game. Please don't be as embarrassing as the Carlton supporters were about Lonergan.

Fingers crossed on Crameri.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

I know it is sposed to be one week at a time. However, I don't think that is 100% correct internally. There would be plans for blocks of games too.

This week is a super important game for us. In Melbourne and with many injuries West Coast are very vulnerable. I think the club will throw everything at this week so I expect Hurley, Pears and Crameri to play if they're 80%.

Following this week we have Richmond, GWS and Melb. All games we should be able to win with many depth players. Players can be rested through those games then come out firing against Sydney, then bye, then travel to play Freo.

Nowt wrong with what Merrett did. 'Tis the game.

I also strongly advocate the conservative approach. Hird should know full well what happens when you play dudes under an injury cloud.

The tigers game is just as big as this one..they are a quality outfit atm..would not be underestimating them at all. Our record isnt that great against them as well.

Totally agree with this assessment.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

Very rarely have I come out of a game thinking "gee I'm glad we played that guy at 80%".
But how many times have we come away thinking "well that was obvious" as a guy who barely came up, either did further injury or battled.

We can survive without Crameri, without Hurley & even Pears as well. It wouldn't be ideal, it would need a rethink, and some guys pinch-hitting, but we can survive if required, and it'll be good to see the plan B & C.

FWIW the Dees, GWS & Tigs games are all worth 4 points, same as WCE. I'd rather get them right in 2 weeks than have them struggle through the rest of the year.

Far out Slatts, didnt you know you cant be a key forward if you werent taken top 10 in the ND....

Got nothing to do with his draft position.

The fact that Crameri can muscle it with a KPD is great. However, where he will be able to DESTROY sides is if he's in a forward line that has a tall marking option like Ryder, Gumby or a young Daniher, a power forward like Hurley and some speed like Davey and Jetta.

He has enormous strength, is fastish, has a great tank, highly competitive and has a long kick. Good luck matching up on that if you're strongest defender is watching Hurley, your tallest defender is watching the 196+cm marking forwards and your quickest defenders are watching Davey and Jetta.

His assests regards running also means we aren't losing anything in defensive pressure playing two other marking forwards.

So I still want to play him as 3rd KPF when there is a full list to choose from. The fact that he can play as 1st or 2nd KPF is a bonus.

Regards defensive pressure we need to see Hurley step that up on returning to the side.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

The impression I got from listening to Hamilton this morning was that he really is fine, but they won't hesitate to rest him this week if he's not 100%.

Much prefer this approach than what we've done in the past; even on ANZAC Day, taking in a virtually unchanged side had hammy all over it.

I've got this weird feeling he'd also be able to destroy sides with just Ryder (having little impact), and no other talls in the forward line at all. I've no idea where that comes from though.

He's being classified as a "third tall" because, nominally, he's the 3rd tallest of our normal forwards - and didn't arrive badged as a full forward.
Really this is no different to Fev (with Whitnall & Waite), or like Lloyd (often lining up with Alessio/Lucas). Crameri's a similar size.

Walks like a duck. Talks like a duck.

Certain that GAJ damaged a medial ligament and has bone bruising.

Sometimes the impact looks shocking but there is no structural damage.

Think of the Buddy scenario - No structural damage and he got up the next week.

Agree 100%.

We might blow the Tiges out of the water but on current form it will be a competitive game.

Tigers have better defensive structures and scoring against them is more challenging.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

Ideally you want Crameri to be the second or third tall - He will struggle if he is too often the first tall. And being the second or third tall allows him to play up and down the ground more - so he can use his endurance.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

Buddy's injury occured during the finals. Besides, when Hamilton says "outside chance" that says no chance at all for mine. Hurley and Crameri out would make it a mammoth task to win.

Paddy Ryder, cometh the hour, cometh the man.

I understand but when you the impact of Buddy's knee - Immediate thought was he would be out for a while.

Sometimes the impact doesn't = severity.

I agree, and how did SJ play the GF?

It's more reading between the lines when listening to Hamilton. He won't play.

Re: #12: Stewart Crameri - Knock to the knee and shin, should be OK for West Coast (Hird)

There is no reading between the lines here. It is just as likely that after icing it and a few days off that it will be fine. The club just wants to keep West Coast guessing and we're caught in the cross fire. I'm happy to be ignorant if that means that our opposition are also.

Rated SJ as Geelong's fourth best player.

He went OK.
