AFL has told clubs tonight that the medical substitute is out. Will be replaced by the tactical substitute - four on the bench and then a sub to be used at any time for any reason. AFL Commission set to approve change in December.

Tucker would be perfect for this tactical substitute. Can play in multiple positions and has enough experience to impact the game.

it’s such a ridiculous change. If you want 5 on the bench make it so, but if you’re reducing the number of interchanges it seems counterproductive to increase the bench. Time to accept injuries are just luck and are part of the game.

FWIW I think you’re right and he would be good but I suspect he would rather play the full match.

I disagree.

Even though this change was bought in after he joined us, im fairly certain Clarko would have approached him with a specific role in mind, and I don't think that was the sub role.

I don't think he would have accepted that role either. Seems counter productive to what he was seeking.

But yes, I see your point with his versatility.

Going to be very interesting to see what role the club thinks he will be most beneficial for us. He can play as a midfield tagger, lockdown half forward, genuine half forward, wing and half back.

With his tank I reckon he’ll find a home as a defensively minded wingman. Similar to the role Froggy used to play. Tucker however has a few more tools at his disposal (long kicking, run/carry) compared to Frog.

It'll be wing as you say.
