Definitely looked at home in the guts. The real test would be against quality opposition. Handy to know he's there if we need him. Baker or Mansell should be able to somewhat cover him at hbf. I hope this isn't a one off as definitely worth persevering with.
We got Rioli and Baker back there, Mansell can't get a game.

Short has the ability to pick the ball up off his toes very cleanly because he has that Cotchin like crouch, and then get it on his boot from that low position. Gives him that split second advantage to get rid of the ball before being closed down. The exact opposite would be Jack Graham who is very upright and hence takes often too long to get rid of it in tight situations. Combined with Short's pace and ability to kick either foot he has some great traits for a midfielder.

His best game i believe

Even though he is a BF winner i think he would of gained alot of confidence in his midfield ability this game
Kelly Redden Shuey are pretty good mids even though it was against a depleted eagles team

I thought that was a more impactful game. His disposal from the bounce was more damaging and I think makes us a stronger unit. He was good on the ground with lower centre of gravity and his stockiness gave us presence to. Certainly added a string to his bow

His kicking is a crazy weapon if he plays in the middle
Agreed but

Im not sure he will get as much of the football against better sides
but last night was a interesting look at what could be if we had a player like Cripps/Green/Steele winning the inside ball 30 time and getting it out to players like short

His strength would be ground ball. Apart from getting receives from the likes of Cotch and Dusty

If Short playing in the guts means Baker can't get a run in there that's a clear win.

I like his length of kicking from the centre even from the bounce. It is simple, compact and less things can go wrong offsetting other strengths we have like Dusty. In particular the kicking length makes our forward line more potent getting our forwards in more dangerous positions with less complication

Short being that bit bigger is a better option.

I still worry about baker getting killed in the guts
