I would drop him without hesitation - Gave Adelaide plenty of the ball.
Yes, we've established you'd drop Melksham at the drop of the hat.

He was far from our worst tonight. Anyone saying he should be dropped on tonight's performance needs to take their blinkers off and watch the game again.

Melksham tuned the ball over too much, he was clumsy below his knees - He was better last week.

still 5 clangers, but at least you could see he was genuinely in pill hunting mode, which is more than you can say about last week when he was a spectator

If he continues to hunt the ball like that and give effort like that, dropping him won't do him any good.

Stiff arm on some pleb (Jaensch, Wright and Brown all look a like) was a thing of beauty, but in characteristic fashion he almost completely butchered the shot

Anyone defending this game as an 'improvement' on last game should look at the tape.

Fumbled every ball he touched.. turned it over several times and was wasteful moving the ball forward.. so pretty much the same as last week.

I agree he wasn't our worst last night.. but right now I have seen more out of EKav, Gleeson, Asby and Z Merrett to suggest they are worth persisting with.

I just don't see how you keep him in the side.

Yeah, nah

Give the time stamp of his best 10 passages of play and I'll listen.

If any player is contributing less than 10 passages of positive play to the team, they are not doing enough.
Guess Fletcher, Ambrose, Bellchambers, Baguley, Zaka and Daniher didn't do enough last night, based on your criteria.

Fletcher - yes.. stopped about 8 forward thrusts on his on. Had multiple key spoils.. his kick ins are always a highlight and structurally important.
Ambrose -no.. he was poor last night.. absolutely. Didn't have any impact other than structure and gut running. Needs to do more.
Belly - no.. hence why he was subbed.. had zero impact on the game.
Bag's - yes.. was beaten by betts and not one of his best games.. but laid several goal saving tackles and helped set up 3 scoring chains with pinpoint disposal out of the back half.
Zaka - yes.. 2 tackles but most importantly took 2-3 really good grabs up forward to generate three shots on goal. Carried the ball on the wing three times to get great attacking moves. Wasn't his best game.. very very poor first half but really stepped up in the 3rd quarter and again in the 4th.
Daniher- borderline yes.. had 2 goal assists and kicked one himself. He is a 19 year old Key position player.. and took 6 marks, 2 of which were contested.

I guess I judge Melksham on the standard that he is now a 100 game 'senior' player.. if he is not in our clearly best now.. then time is running out.

I can't believe I'm the only one that noticed that he didn't handle the ball cleanly all night..

I can't believe I'm the only one that noticed that he didn't handle the ball cleanly all night.. and 50% disposal efficiency when 75% of your disposals are 'uncontested' is way way way too low. I'll put it another way.. he had the highest % of 'uncontested' possessions in the team.. and the lowest disposal effeciency.. by a long way..
Fair call. Agree with most of that. The thing I look at though, is that will Melksham's replacement, whoever that may be, give us more than Melksham will? If the answer is no (which I think it is at this stage) then Melksham stays in the team.

Well I've always seen EKav as being a replacement option.. and I would argue that EKav showed a bit last night.. I thought he was quite good.

Oh and I got the stats wrong.. Melksham actually had higher contested possessions than uncontested.. so that would explain the disposal efficiency stat...

Melksham has never been a one touch player but atleast last year his decision making had improved.
Unfortunately he's back to the fumbling bumbling player that usually sells us into trouble.
Plenty of players need improving in one way or another, but along with Bellchambers half-arsed efforts unless he's hit lace out, this drives me absolutely insane sometimes

7 tackles (2nd overall in the game), 17 CP's (1st in the game), 5 clearances (3rd for the game). That puts him as one of the top 2 inside mids in the game

I'm happy to agree to disagree on this one.

I can see both sides of the argument, including your well made point.

This guy has taken over Stanton's roll as whipping boy of EFC. The guy can play, but fails at it too often. Stupid for a guy thats played near 100 games, but he probably needs more time. He does the shit that you can't coach like find the football and make the effort. But too offten when he has a disposal the ball ends up going back over his head.

Thought he was a bit scrappy and fumbly last night, but his performance was a huge improvement from the past few weeks. As long as there is improvement, I'm happy. Far better performance from Melksham last night, let's hope it's something to build on
