Great to see Hurls return from injury on the weekend for his 2nd game and play a role in the senior side.

He was solid without being brilliant (11 possessions & 4 marks) but it is all a working progress and great for him to experience a victory for the club, especially on the road.

Will be playing a very crucial role in our long term future. Looking forward to seeing more of him in 2009 and getting set for a big 2010. :thumbsu:

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Nominated for the Army Award this week, for his brilliant smother in the first term.

Stats vs Sydney Round 15:
Kicks: 4
Handballs: 7
Marks: 4
Tackles: 1

Not a great return from Hurley after his exciting debut, but conceding 3 goals is still decent effort from a kid none the less. Thought he did well trying to create a bit of run from the back line but made a few decision errors and ran himself into trouble. Despite conceding a few scoring shots, all in all showed signs that he and Pears will become a formidable duo for many years to come:thumbsu:

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

As much as i wanted a midfielder last year you have got to like the fact that Hurls has only played 2 games but both times has looked like a 50 plus game player.

I agree. He is very composed.

As good as Rich would have been; at his best, this guy could have the impact of a Pavlich

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Our boy did very well again this evening.

Was a definate shining light and cannot wait to get more gametime into him as the year progresses and hopefully the taste of finals.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

i seriously reckon that with pears holding down fb, and hooker doing ok at chb..with mcphee and or fletcher going 3rd man up/ taking the other forward we should really consider playing hurley as a forward.

he has kicked bags in the under 18s, he showed in friday he leads well, and has a good set of hands..is a great kick.....and..the percieved lack of pace is irrelivent when you are leading sombody else to the ball..

lucas out and hurley at ff....with lloyd at the roaming chf spot.....id still like to see neagle in but i really see hurley as a dominant forward..i saw some young nick voldt in him.

play him forward knights!

p.s does anyone else see a future captain?

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

He looks like a natural forward. He times his leads well, he is definately not slow and the ease with which he outmarked Dale Morris one on one was very impressive, not to mention his kicking. Looks an absolute gun in the making.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

We have drafted for our needs in the previous three national drafts and now seeing the benefits of losing our final four games of 2008 in the form of Michael Hurley - a sad but true fact. I must admit to having a bit of a chuckle when hearing certain Carlton supporters discuss how ridiculously talented Chris Yarran is. Perhaps but KPD are like gold. We've seen Carlton's defence twice this year fail miserably against us, especially three weeks ago. Very happy we could snare Hurley before they did to underline our superiority.

The club reliased after our narrow loss to the Eagles in Perth at the end of last year that the year was effectively over and diligently rested players & sent others off to surgery. They also paid tribute to quite a number of players intending to retire by playing them when they were clearly on their last legs and really had no hope of helping us to actually win a game. Not tanking, just effective list/draft management. :) The exposure some players received in these games is and will continue to prove vital. While some were upset about the hefty defeats at the time, it was really all for long-term gain.

With the third youngest list in the competition, the young talent on the list is almost embarrassing. An embarrassment of young KPP riches both in defence (Hurley, Pears) and forward (Gumbleton, Neagle) and a midfield that is now boasting a ridiculous amount of options with an average age of 22 that is still about 2-3 years from peaking. Not to mention the most promising young ruckman in the competition. A finals appearence in 2009 would compliment it beautifully. No premierships this year, obviously, but will be looked back on as a defining year in 2009.

Did we really 'rest' players last year? We simply had no choice.

I've got little doubt we did.

With not much on the line - what was the point of risking valuable long-term prospects in meaningless games? It's very easy for somebody from the club to just come out and label somebody injured at that point of the season. Not saying they weren't genuine niggles but there were more than two who would of played had it been earlier in the season rather than meaningless Round 20/21/22 games when we were out of contention. Smart moves that were looking to the future.

Do you think when we are imminently lifting up cup number 17 in the near future we are going to remember losing to the Crows or Bulldogs in Round 20 or 21 of 2008? lol. :)
