Re: 22. Michael Hurley

looks like he warrants the high pic, lets make the most of him we haven't really had that many!

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

I've got little doubt we did.

With not much on the line - what was the point of risking valuable long-term prospects in meaningless games? It's very easy for somebody from the club to just come out and label somebody injured at that point of the season. Not saying they weren't genuine niggles but there were more than two who would of played had it been earlier in the season rather than meaningless Round 20/21/22 games when we were out of contention. Smart moves that were looking to the future.

Do you think when we are imminently lifting up cup number 17 in the near future we are going to remember losing to the Crows or Bulldogs in Round 20 or 21 of 2008? lol. :)

You're starting to sound like 'Parrot'...

These guys didn't have niggles - they were serious injuries. Reimers' quad turned out to be quite nasty, Hille broke his hand etc - Christ, Danny Chartres was listed as an emergency after being delisted.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

He's exceeded my expectations and then some.

I though 5 games max this year would be all he deserves but the form shown so far means he's picked each week.

Reminds me of Jonathon Brown in the marking contest and protects the ball very well.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

I missed the latter part of the game last week when we went forward. I heard hey went well. Does he look more comfortable as a defender? Or does he look like he could be just as damaging as a forward?

With Pears, Hooker and Daniher there could Hurley as a forward be a long term possibility or do people think his position at FB?

I'm fairly confident in saying he is and will be a better defender than Hooker and Daniher. He looks simply awesome back there. But if Gumby, Neagle and Still don't progress then we might be be better off playing him forward.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Just thought I'd let you guys know that me and Hurls had a very special moment last week.

Living in Sydney, I only see the Bombers live once a year, and the rest of the time I'm stuck watching on TV. I was at the SCG, standing about 25 rows back, just to the side of the goals. It was fairly quiet at the SCG as Sydney supporters are boring and the game wasn't particularly thrilling. Amidst the quiet, I screamed out "GO MICHAEL HURLEY!!!"

He actually turned, and looked straight at me for a few seconds. I gave him a very encouraging thumbs up, he smiled and turned back around.

My life has not been the same since. I am a guy very happy in a heterosexual relationship, but if ever there were a man worth turning for, it's Michael Hurley. Who's with me?

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Move him forward, move him back, let him settle in one position. Despite having a dirty day, he was one of the only people chasing, I remember at one stage Richmond were running out of our 50 with Stanton following, Hurley starting 30 metres behind Stants and caught up to the Tiger before him, then followed up with another chase, while Stants was jogging behind play.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

I respect this guy so much and really I think everyone does. If we expect him to be in the best everyweek and dominate his opponent from a limited preseason and injury prone home and away season than he must be somthing special becasue I have never seen a player been expected of so much. Mainly from the way he goes about it.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Pisstake posts usually have good grammar. Or extremely poor grammar to let us all know it's a pisstake. That's just a 14yo boy complaining because hind-sight drafting is easy.
Even with hindsight, I'm not disappointed with our decision to draft Hurley.

Sure I'd love to see Rich in our midfield, but injury aside, we're basically guaranteed a champion key position player able to play both ends. He's also shown more than enough in his first year, which isn't very common for us, or any talls for that matter.

Not that you've implied otherwise, just felt it was a nice time to slip that in.

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

I sincerely hope the above post is a piss take....

haha, yeh was just trying to get a rise.

rich is a freak and would love him. but hurley shows more all the time and kpp are worth so much. hurley at 5 looks like a top pick..

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Good KPP players are rare as, especially ones that contribute in their first year. Rich will be a great player but Hurley could be one of those players you can build a side around. And when you consider the fact that there are heaps of good midfield prospects but few KPP in this years draft, the Essendon recruiting staff definitely made the right choice. :thumbsu:

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

Take a look at Hurley's numbers this season - they're on par with the likes of J Brown, Pav and Roo - not saying he will be as good as them but he's definitely shown as much as they did in their debut seasons

Re: 22. Michael Hurley

I don't think James Hird will start coaching until the Essendon position is free. He's far too attached to Essendon to go to any other club.
