Happy enough with his first game. But, 1 tackle is horrible. We need better defensive pressure particularly in our f50, needs to be a big part of his game if playing forward.

Edwards is not a tackler. He's a front runner. Need to accept that's what he is and use him as a fast paced goal sneak who can take a big mark occasionally. Could be a handy sub as well.

Needs to accept that's what he is?
No mate. He can defend or he will end up in the VFL for Kommer.
Suggesting we just need to accept a young player can't be taught how to play football is one of the stupidest things I've heard.

He's no different to guys like josh hill and Jeff Garlett. He has his place as he will break lines and kick and create goals. That is more value than a dud like Kommer. Kommer will just be second to the contest continually chasing and when he does get it has poor skills. Kommer might get his tackles as a result of chasing tail all match but I'll take Edwards. Watson isn't a tackler either but I'll accept that and play him.

No, Kommer can play VFL for the rest of the year then get delisted.

You may prefer a forward who doesn't defend. But he won't last if he doesn't.

We need a game plan that can allow forwards to kick goals.
Agreed. Do you think being able to keep the football in our forward line when we get it there would be an important part of that game plan? I obviously do.
Teams do not get r50s any easier against anyone else more so than Essendon.

Who ever is our forwards coach needs to be fired.

Sick of watching the team work hard to get the ball forward only for the ball to be rebounded easily when Joe or Carlisle don't mark it.

We need forwards who kick goals.

Chapman, Cooney, Daniher, Carlisle have all been getting regular games as forwards without defending/tackling.
And how's that working for us?
It's because we have other forwards not defending that we absolutely cannot afford more.

And FWIW I wouldn't give Chappy another game and would not be playing Cooney as a forward for the same reason.

So when we see Watson get the ball on a wing on a break , then hold , hold, go left, right left, hold, get in trouble then chip 10m sideways... Where is the issue? Are the forwards not there? Are they crowded? Are they not moving? Are we not fit enough to have broken foward with him?

Somethings broken, I'd love to know what.

J.Brown was harping on it all game just about.

Not sure in that instance, but we generally had a hard time getting forwards back to our 50 once we ran the ball up the corridor. The lack of a marking target outside of Daniher, since Buckets was a ruck, didn't help.

Hird's lack of gameplan/actively fisting our forwards actually suits his skillset. Put it out infront of him in a race to goal situation and he's basically unstoppable and his ability to run around players is something we're short on.

As long as he's not at apathetic Paddy Ryder level of not chasing then I'm more than happy to put up with the potential bad to get the good.
