This! I'm not a Scott lover, but he ain't going anywhere. Even if we lost by 20 goals tonight.
Probably true. But FFS can he at least accept he isn't winning a flag with this team and try to re-jig it, instead of trying the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result? And by re-jig, that doesn't mean keep topping up with more washed up potatoes.

I still think we can make finals and build for future years by bringing in guys like SDK, Krueger, Clark, Holmes and Evans. Hopefully add Cooper to that list if he can stay fit. Cut out the washed up guys like Dahl, Hendo etc. Look to trade guys like menegola to get some more draft picks to secure Knevitt if possible. Use the other picks for more midfielders, and a small forward who is good around goals. We are pretty thin in those areas.

222 out of 368 coaches in AFL history never coached in a final. That’s 60%.

259 out of 368 coaches in AFL history never won a final. That’s 70%

315 out of 368 coaches in AFL history or 85% never won a flag.

Whenever you employ a new coach the odds are stacked enormously against you in finding a successful coach.
Yeah but most of those were at carlton so.....

How many Coaches have had the quality of list Scott has had, almost continuously since 2011?

I'd say about 90% yet Scott has kept getting them into finals regardless. Our list has a hand full of really good players and a group of guys they get a lot out of. How many of the "quality list" we have today get a game in the 2009 side? Hawk and Selwood already there. Stewart, Danger and who else? Cameron perhaps. Bomber's side wipes the floor with the current team. Compare what we have to the number of first rounders the Giants will have tonight.

A couple years ago didn't Scotty say he wanted to call it quits when his kid started (possibly high) school?

This was the quote

Scott has agreed in principle to remain with Geelong until 2020 but may seek another career path beyond that.

“The best way will be to finish before my daughter gets to school, based on what I’ve heard from other coaches,” Scott told Off-Field.

The fact that that period was around 2020 finishing and he's already extended to 2022 would suggest he's been happy to continue coaching once she started school

Surely the club could work with him having to do a few drop-offs and pick-ups?

The coaching shits me because we don't normally take the list as far as it's capable with the exception of maybe last year. Although I used to be very anti-Scott, now as far as I'm concerned he can stay until we miss the 8 next.. or he cuts the beautiful hair and beard

Particularly when, as we are constantly told on here, only the 15% are "successful"

Very good list, seriously? Transitioned an old list of good players out, nothing in the way of high draft picks, in an era when the draft was stuffed because of GWS and GC anyway, and did it with rookies, mid range picks that they developed well and some astute additions from other clubs (Stevens, Higgins aside). The list is 7 to 12 territory. Check out how many first rounders Port had last week, how many will roll out tonight for GWS.

flat out delusional. We’ve had a team stacked with all time greats that has been every bit as good as any over the 10 year stretch. And we lose finals the same way, final after final, year after year. There’s a pattern there if you care to see it.

lost 13AA players across ten seasons with no draft picks to redevelop with and only one A grade player has been traded in during that time.

if you have a brain, you can tell it’s an exceptional effort

Excellent coaching. Another prelim final appearance, sixth in his career? Phenomenal effort.

enjoy the win and prep ourselves for the huge underdog game coming up against Melbourne
😂😂😂😂

Beating the 7th ranked team missing half a forward line and their best player. And we looked pretty unconvincing. Next week is going to be a blood bath i think.

the same side that beat Sydney last week, they are not some crippled incapable team and had probably more stars Out there tonight than we do.

cats_09 any idea when the contract extension is being announced?? Bit nervous seeing apparently Carlton banging down the door hunting his signature
Not sure

All I know is what Lloyd said which was that both parties were keen to extend the contract and it looked likely to be a longer term deal

Not sure if they were going to wait to Hocking to come on board or before he starts

They had 16 injured players ffs. They literally had half their best 22 out there.

heaps of star power out there, Cunningham, Whitfield, coniglio, Haynes, hopper, Kelly, Taranto, Taylor, ward.

thats 9 A grade players or at least borderline A grade. Your talking like they are some wounded animal with nobody out there yet they probably have more top end talent than us still and an elite engine room.

Which A grader did he get in?
The Brownlow medalist, or the Coleman medal winner?
Or the player who got 3AA's in 5 years?
Or the 2 time Brownlow medal winner?
Or the 3 time premiership winner?
