An ode to Chris:

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Oh yeah
And they're gone so fast, yeah
Oh, so hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And when you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, oh yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba du dop
Ba du bop, ba du dop
Ba du, yeah
Oh Hansen …… underrated !

What a ridiculous comment.
2019 19 points up in a prelim against an amazing side - cotchin, prestia and lynch drag them over the line. We played without duncan (injured), and hawkins (suspended). The tigers played a beaten up giants the next week and smashed them. We were a huge chance! if dunc and hawk play, you'd think that makes a difference.

we then lose kelly to WA.

2020 we make it to the grand final and we up by 24 points. imagine if it was dusty that had the freak shoulder injury, not gaz.

we'd been long working at getting cameron as a free agent, had comitted to him and unfortunately - the giants played hard ball.

2021 we lose stewart on the eve of the finals, danger has a broken hand, parfitt a week out. cameron not got fit due to multiple hamstring injuries. potentially a virus. needed the pre finals bye badly, it got scrapped.

We were legitimately contending... if we'd had a pinch of luck - we'd have a flag to show for it.

It's so revisionist to suggest looking back that we should have been rebuilding.

It's absolutely the time now get some youth into the team, but by no means do we give up on contending next year - we'd need absolutely everything to go right and it's highly unlikely. 3 kids in this years draft. 4 next year. target free agency and hope to contend again in 4 - 5 years.

It’s good someone else says it like this and I also believe we haven’t made a mistake chasing a flag, a bit of luck and we could’ve had a couple.

However the big draw back is the manner we lose many of these finals. We get absolutely slaughtered in the 1st week where it is uncompetitive rubbish.
In the 2nd halves against Richmond we have virtually been uncompetitive and that’s where the issues are.
Extreme long periods of being utterly pathetic in finals. Sure we had our chances but why has the uncompetitive quarters/halves happened every single year?

I think that’s why people want a complete clean out. Something is not quite right at the pointy end and it’s been a decade of it.

Long seasons, we are not at the same level of fitness as the best team of the year.
Classic cases in point- Tigers 17, 19, 20, Demons 21
I don't see the Doggies being in despair over their second half "capitulation".

I thought his press conferences were brutal.

Can't keep using that excuse (or any excuse) after nine separate failed finals campaigns now.

This is not about excuses.
In each of Tigers flags, the opposition was smashed in second halves, and throughout in the other 2 games v Adelaide and GWS.
Similarly Demons obliterated Doggies in the second half.
Everybody has recognised the superiority Richmond had in that era, and now it's Melbourne's turn.
There has to be another team they play in the GF or prelim to get to that position.
At times, we have been the team to lose that prelim or GF. So be it- we were just not as good. In every capacity.
I don't recall us being favourites in any of those games we lost. Why so?
Yet when we are vindicated in that and see us lose, people come out and say we have issues.
The issue is making a prelim or a GF when we are just not the best team.

Best and Fairest tomorrow night, will be a fascinating lot of speeches!

President, hocking, Scotty and Joel all will speak I would imagine?

I hope Isaac wins an award just to hear his five cents

Does anyone know if we can watch it??

In this very body of text though it becomes clear that with the right tweaking we can seriously contend.

BUT, we'd rather just throw everything out and start again.

If you're so close to tasting the ultimate success it does not warrant a complete clean out if you can address the areas you need to improve and effectively execute those improvments.

Looking at Melb we are nowhere near it

Herald says “Scott is certain to coach out his contract at Geelong next year…” and is “powering ahead with his planning “, and Geelong expect him to extend.
I am shook.

4 years too late like I said.
I don't care for excuses which what all this is about. Nothing but endless excuses you have created as to why this and that did not happen.

This coach should have faced some serious tough questions back then but he did not. We went and hit the draft looking for oldies to paper over the cracks.
We had a list capable of winning the flag in 2016 but it's been dumbfounding coaching decisions which have seen this team hit the finals in red hot form only to be shell shocked. It's been a pattern of Scott's since 2012 when we were annihilated at the MCG by Fremantle of all defensive teams.

You enjoy bringing up all the injuries and miss fortunes along the way but fail to identify some incredible luck which came our way in return.

And I do think now is the right time to begin rebuilding. If we proceed to do as you say, go all out again next year in the hope of winning a flag, we will fail miserably. We already have younger players contemplating their options somewhere else as they cannot get games with the older clan still ahead of them.

Like I said, this is 4 years too late and once Scott is gone, the Geelong football club can get back to work.

I think that a lot of supporters don't like their feelings hurt tbh. Even if we are the underdog, with injuries, lack of form, travelling interstate, suspensions, they still expect us to win. And when we don't, they get unrealistically and overly hurt. So then they almost prefer not being in the finals at all and probably would be trotting out the old Carlton line: "Next year, when we get pick 1-10, we'll be better, then we'll make the finals, next year"....

At this very moment yes. Next year is a new year, the season is 6 months away. Gawn could get injured, Richmond could revitalise themselves, GWS could get it together.... who really knows... The Eagles were pretty good in 2018, and then they just dropped out. Richmond lost the 2018 PF. And so on. Who really knows what will be the exact equation or who the premier will be in 12 months.

I am shook.

Not as much as several others on here.

'The Fast and the Furious' franchise is up to its ninth incarnation, I believe. This thread will be heading to that same iteration 'fast' as well, you'd have to think. And it won't be hard to identify the 'furious' along the way...
