Alright now I'm just confused:

"Scotty was one person that I have worked with that I learnt an enormous amount from and I am really excited to continue working with him, he is a good person and a good coach,” Kelly said.

“Me spending time around him is only going to be a good thing.”

Mad_Catter year of the cat , you're the guys with the intel - what do you guys make of this? 🤨

He hasn't told Kelly?;)

Its a classic PR approach used all the time in the AFL - a 'pet' journo suddenly reports the opposite of accepted wisdom on someone and then generates talk, which naturally builds to a point where whatever and whenever the announcement comes it seems like old news. OR, the public leaking of it puts pressure on the other side in the negotiations. Just see the last 12 months at Collingwood or Carlton for examples, or Essendon through the drug scandal (remember Robbo was the pet journalist for the Bombers who leaked favorable info re Bombers and negative re ALF, and Caro was the AFL's pet in that one doing the reverse).

Neither, obviously, has the Club, or Hocking, or the New Coach.
Sneaky bastards.
Wonder if there's a cooling off period for Kelly and other recently (re)-signed assistants?

Because if one's signed on as an assistant coach on the understand of Scott being the senior coach but then Scott steps down and it replaced with say Don Pyke (picking a random option), can the assistant/s opt of the new contract as it's not necessarily the situation they sign on to?

quite sure if that was the case something would be worked out as its in the best interest of both parties.

I believe they were all put on as salaried employees last year, rather than contracted. I assume that perhaps there would be a probationary period (maybe waved after all its a boys clubby environment so I doubt there is great governance involved), and that they resign as per normal with a stipulated notice period to serve out.

If I was going to take a wild guess, I'd say Hocking is steering the ship when it comes to a lot of these moves.

- Scarlo and Pops never got along too well and have opposing personas, then one is let go and one is brought in.

- Kelly returns, then talk that Scott is finishing up, after Lappin is locked into a long-term deal preventing Voss and Carlton from poaching him.

- Enright and Knights are farewelled very soon after our Prelim obliteration, and talk of chasing others like Hansen comes up straight away.

We have around 6 weeks 'til draft time and unlike struggling clubs, we require no review into the internal machinations of our club, but rather, a refresh and a straight forward interview process if we want a new head coach.

If we finalize things with Scott in the next fortnight, it wouldn't be outlandish to think that something is already in the works - externally or via internal promotion - to change our head coach too. Could either be someone like Lappin (internal) or someone maybe like Caracella who wanted Kelly due to their connection at Essendon (external). Either is possible at this point.

As I've stated earlier, Scott is not one who would bend the club over, if he was the one who wanted to leave early - given his stellar display of humanity foregoing his salary in its entirety last year. Given that now two posters and multiple reports are citing him finishing up - without any response from the club saying otherwise - , says to me that this is more likely than unlikely.

As always though, we'll have to wait and see

Not many coaches out there I would want but I would be very happy if Caracella came in to take over from Scott.

Caracella as head coach, with McCartney as development coach, Pops defense coach and two other decent candidates for forward and midfield (wouldn't be against Grigg being elevated), would be my dream team :)

Nope. 4 years too late but at least the rebuild can begin now and not in another 12-18 months time.

What a ridiculous comment.
2019 19 points up in a prelim against an amazing side - cotchin, prestia and lynch drag them over the line. We played without duncan (injured), and hawkins (suspended). The tigers played a beaten up giants the next week and smashed them. We were a huge chance! if dunc and hawk play, you'd think that makes a difference.

we then lose kelly to WA.

2020 we make it to the grand final and we up by 24 points. imagine if it was dusty that had the freak shoulder injury, not gaz.

we'd been long working at getting cameron as a free agent, had comitted to him and unfortunately - the giants played hard ball.

2021 we lose stewart on the eve of the finals, danger has a broken hand, parfitt a week out. cameron not got fit due to multiple hamstring injuries. potentially a virus. needed the pre finals bye badly, it got scrapped.

We were legitimately contending... if we'd had a pinch of luck - we'd have a flag to show for it.

It's so revisionist to suggest looking back that we should have been rebuilding.

It's absolutely the time now get some youth into the team, but by no means do we give up on contending next year - we'd need absolutely everything to go right and it's highly unlikely. 3 kids in this years draft. 4 next year. target free agency and hope to contend again in 4 - 5 years.

Mmmmmm Bop.
An ode to Chris:

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Oh yeah
And they're gone so fast, yeah
Oh, so hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And when you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, oh yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba du dop
Ba du bop, ba du dop
Ba du, yeah
