Kudos to Scott. He was able to change our game style to one that was able to stand up in finals. Can’t underestimate the influence of Grigg and Kelly on this result as well. Happy for the guy that he’s now got a flag that’s truly his. Not one person can take that away from him.

How much longer do you think the fires will burn for him at Geelong?

With this list, if we don't win back to back next year, questions should be asked about his position.

Just checked *Paul's AFL Tables website, which is now updated for the result of the 2022 GF. It really is an amazing comprehensive stats database of teams, players, records and just about everything you could think of.

Chris Scott now has 200 wins as a coach, with 84 defeats and an overall win percentage in all games of 70.28%. It can look a bit blithe to rattle off 70% as something that's 'pretty good' but when you compare him to the man who is immediately above him, Dan Minogue who coached from 1920 to 1942. 202 wins.....and a win percentage of 56.55%. But just take it in, for Chris's win percentage to drop to about 56%, he would need to lose his next 70 matches!! THAT really shows just what rarified air his (and of course Geelong's) winning record is. We are fans who are fortunate to barrack for the 'Greatest team of All'!

Probably the best Manager the game has ever seen. Now with two flags..with almost a clean slate of different names... he moves into rare air.
Just 17 coaches have three or more Flags. Chris is already in quite rare air, and i reckon he's got the passion and drive to look for more. And as we know it's not for the want of trying.

I will be the first to admit I have been critical of Scotty at various times, and I don't apologize for it. But I think this premiership finally puts the full stop to his career as a coach. He will go down as one of the best coaches of the modern era. There's no doubt now.

Wut? " ...finally puts a full stop to his career as a coach"

If you were one of those who criticised CS for his style of play, then you should apologise. We used those tactics cos we had little speed and few genuine runners in the outfit and to do otherwise would have had us as also-rans. The art of coaching is to understand what cattle you have and utilise it accordingly. As CS and others have said, we recognised our list issues 2 or 3 years back and went about changing our list so we have more speed and run. The Dees and some others followed a similar path.

CS is a master coach and we're fortunate to have him.

Just by the bye, I've noticed that when CS mentions his full-time assistants he never mentions Egan. Haven't seen Egan in the coach's box or the dugout. Only once and that was among the players not selected for one reason or another.

Damn straight. We don’t accept mediocrity!
I know we're all joking around but a season we consider mediocre for the last 30-35 years is a standard some struggle to meet. We truly have been blessed at this club for quite some time.

Our worst season from 2004 of 10-11-1 in 2006 is better than any of the dozen the Suns have played.

Notwithstanding the 22 game seasons starting in 1970 and obviously not including 1993 and 2020's shorter seasons, as a Cat fan we didn't see a H & A season of more than 16 wins until 2007 when we hit 18 that season.

From 2007 onwards it's 18, 21, 18, 17, 19, 15, 18, 17, 11.5, 17, 13, 16, (12 in 2020), 16, 18.

Nine times exceeding 16, twice equaling it all in the last 16 seasons. Before 2007 just four times in seasons from 1970 in that 37 season period.

Pretty special.

The decision to axe the line coaches and coach the whole group on defence , attack etc was progressive. Whoever came up with that deserves big credit… probably collaborated that idea out.
Makes perfect sense when you see how the game is played these days.

Watch other clubs try and replicate us with older players and the like, but keep an eye on Geelong staying one step ahead. Reckon Wells and co. will be all across the new trade regime at a minimum.

You have to love Scott, despite the overwhelming criticism, he’s always maintained belief, this year he opened his mind a bit more and the results paid off in spades. Two more years and he’ll be the longest serving coach in Geelong history, has more wins by a fair way over Reg Hickey as Geelong’s most winningest coach of all time, yet seems to remain very centred, humble, defends his players and seems like a pretty decent human being.

This second flag really gets the monkeys off his back and thrusts him into the elite category.

For that all of us should be grateful.

This,

We were well coached, but not as a collective, we’ve seen the differences this year, forwards who run to defensive 50, defenders who charge forward, chop outs in the midfield, players playing multiple roles and our team is so much better for it.

Yes it would be a miracle if we matched the star power of 07-11 teams, but I believe this is the most balanced Geelong side I’ve ever seen in my living memory.

this comment genuinely made me laugh out loud because of how true it is.

yes your right, what we have claimed as a mediocre unacceptable performance is what Essendon and carlton supporters have been unable to achieve for 20 + years, and the GCS have been unable to achieve their entire lifetime in the comp.

we are spoilt

absolutely spot on. Football is a team sport not a line coached sport of midfield defence and attack. Those days are long gone and it is an all in effort from every one of the 18 out there to chip in and contribute on all fronts and be involved.

hopefully others do not pick up the trend and we stay ahead.

Well I have to eat some humble pie. I've potted him on this thread on a number of occasions and I wanted him gone at the end of last year.

Couldn't be happier to be wrong.

The best manager the game has ever seen? Lets not get too ahead of ourselves. Clarkson and Hardwick, Leigh Matthews, Sheedy still have him beat - I put Thompson ahead of him as well. He is definitely up there though - but not the best. You are also ignoring the 'older' era coaches who won may more premierships. If Scott can win another premiership then he moves ahead of Thompson and Hardwick and becomes on Clarkson's level.

He didn’t mean manager as a euphemism for coach, he meant manager as in man manager I think.
