Player Watch #20 Jacob Koschitzke

Yeah, saw something somewhere thats tated that Jacobs output was very similar to Jack and Hawkins. Just looked at this is what I found.

Jack 57 goals after 48 games.
Kozi 54 goals after 48 games.
Hawkins 59 from 43 games.

False economy. Should be based on games played per age

Kozi still young get it but but pinhead and jack were for more advanced than Kozi on that measure

If you guys are super keen, go and watch our late season game against the Bulldogs. Was possibly his finest ever performance, even though he has a 5 goal haul and 3 Brownlow vote game to his name.

Had super sticky hands that day. Stood up constantly when it mattered.
Was also strong in our wins over Brisbane and Collingwood.

Riewoldt first 48 games 87 goals + goal assists.

Koschitzke first 48 games 66 goals + goal assists.

As pointed out in the post above by Sir_Loin Jack was 2 years younger in his sample as well.

In the 48 games Riewoldt played prior to turning Koschitzke's current age of 23 he got 177 goals + goal assists. This is very obviously in a completely different stratosphere to what Koschitzke has done to the same point.

You don't expect a player who can match Jack Riewoldt for a 3rd round pick and a no doubt modest contract. Hopefully Jacob can bring characteristics that allow the forward line to function better than it did with the 35 year old Jack Riewoldt present in it. He is not matching the 23yo Jack Riewoldt in this lifetime or the next.

Hes no Riewoldt, its a stupid comparison, but Koschitzke did spend his first 2 years playing as a KPD.

Maybe Jacob played as a key defender in the VFL prior to making his AFL debut. But he has played only key forward and ruck in the AFL as far as I can see.
Yeah that's right but if he had of started day 1 @ Hawthorn as a KPF then those stats would have more relevance.

On the plus side Jacob has only been playing KPF full time for 3 seasons so should still have plenty of improvement left.

As a key fwd he is actually tracking backwards. Last year with Lewis on one leg he could not cement a game in the Hawks team.
He was offered a contract by the Hawks relative to his output.

We need Tall forwards so he is a good fit he is just one, we could do with another two or three. To expect him to be at Riewoldt's level is totally unrealistic. He can take a good grab and imo he is there for structure and to give us a tall target outside of Lynch.

At the end of the day he may well end up playing in defense for all we know.

I like what I have seen of him...
He's a big young lad...and he does not play timid...that's a big plus in my coaching book!
He also attacks the ball in flight!
Looks fit...plays fit...has muscles...not a plodder like our delisted K.B...
Can take a contested grab...another big plus! Very handy option for exiting the D50 on the wing!
New Coach, new playing experienced group, new supporter base, new experienced teachers...also wanted by the biggest Football Club in the land...all goes towards boosting morale, hunger, confidence and desire!
Would have liked him playing this year with JR8...
Will be playing with/alongside a Gun forward who can take the heat and leave him to develop nicely!
Does not have to be the sole forward as he was at his last Club...just needs to play a role and contribute!
Very excited by this prospect!

Heard a rumour that Jacob weitering has already requested to play on lynch in round 1 out of fear of getting pantsed by Kosi …. Has anyone else heard this?

Agree. I made the same comment re the Bulldogs game about four weeks ago.
He took eight marks that day from memory.
A miles better option than Chol who runs away from the ball.
They built fences around the ground to keep Chol on the park !!!! :p:p:p:p

Gone for 2 weeks, must know he might cop a bit of flak being Kozi's #1 fan by default now LOL
We know kozi has a keen eye for talent, especially with his reporting on Richard Wilkins

Know a Hawks fan at work. Says Kozi has lots of talent, inconsistent, but has the ability to be pretty good.

I told him about Chol, talented but soft. He didn't seem very excited.

Always liked him when I watched him play. Young key position players take time but has shown enough talent and work rate to suggest he can be something.

I definitely view him as a valuable addition to the team and a bargain.

Change of team and coaches definitely helps too.

Traded to Richmond in exchange for Pick 49 from the Hawks.
Going to Richmond, this pick-up is crucial, particularly with the retirement of Jack Riewoldt at Punt Road.

To pick up a young forward has secured another future asset for the Tigers to use alongside Tom Lynch, who has also had his injuries and struggles that impacted Richmond's failure to reach the finals in 2023.

Koschitzke may be expected to play higher up the ground and can allow Lynch to remain a threat deep in attack.

While he won't be filling Riewoldt's shoes, Koschitzke will give Lynch more support while allowing the likes of youngsters Jacob Bauer and Samson Ryan to thrive.

My understanding is that J.K. has played at the Hawks as the Number 1 forward...be interesting to see how he fits into our forward line one that has Lynch as the Number 1 forward...might have a little confusion arise...and take time to sort out!

So pretty much he told you what you would have been telling people about Chol four years ago ... that he had lots of talent and ability, but is inconsistent.

He's nearly always been the number two to Mitch Lewis. He'll be fine :)

Hope he isn't Chol mark II.

I like Marbior, but going hard just isn't in him. And to be a KPF you need to go hard.
