“The 2003 program will focus on driving attendances, while simultaneously maximising television and radio audiences. We have learnt a lot from the first year of our new broadcast agreement, and what we have learnt will be applied to season 2003,” he said.

The thrust of the fixture will be to draw fans to the big games, while continuing to work towards maximising TV ratings, which Demetriou admitted is a “delicate mix.”

In regards to the Foundation Weekend - does this mean that Brisbane will wear the Fitzroy jumper and Port can wear the prsion bar strip? If so how do the Port & Roy fans feel about this, if it occurs?

Jerome

First two paragraphs really mean we will make as much money as we can and we dont care about fairness in the draw.

Also, I wonder if the original bears abortion of a jumper will get a show on Foundation weekend? Half the players could wear that, and half fitzroy.

yes, demetriou has also come out and said that the games of round 16 through to round 22 won't necessarily be played in the same order as those from round 1 to round 7. not sure if that means whole rounds will be moved as one though.

Good...just as long as the second derby of the year is round 22, im happy as larry.

Go Roos
Good, then we can not only go positive, but have a 2:1 ratio or greater in only one year. ;)

So for the first and last round there will be:

Port v Adel
Freo v WCE
Syd v Bris
Coll v Rich

My guess for the others:

Haw v Mel
Dogs v saints
Geel v Carl
Ess v Kang

Hoggy,

But the Carring Bush have been saying that since their last win against us way back in 1998!! :D:D

Go Cats!!
SeinDude

What's your point?

Who calls us Carringbush anyway? We are the Collingwood Football Club.

Playing the derbies in the last round will not be fair on Brisbane and Sydney who will hve to travel every second year and no other clubs will travel at all

Perish the thhought of Melbourne clubs having to travel in the last round. What a crock of Barry.

Channel Nine's picks of the blockbuster games for Friday nights will be interestging considering the lame lot that they picked this year.

Richmond and Carlton should not get ANY friday night games based on this years performacnes.

Look forward to Collingwood and Essenodn being the Friday night teams with Melbourne thrown in a few times.

But nothing like as bad as having to go to Perth, Geelong or Adelaide as we've had to do in the last couple of years. I'd be happy with it.

But why should we base it on the previous year? They did that for the 2002 fixture because Carton and Richmond both made the finals in 2001...

Brisbane or Sydney would have to travel in the last round every second year no matter what. Brisbane is quite close to Sydney anyway.

And you forgot to mention the blues having to travel to geelong

The Saints requested a couple of years ago to play Carlton first up as an annual fixture.

If I had my way I would scrap all the blockbusters and derbies and just produce the fairest draw that one possibly could within the confines of a 22 round season. Make sure each club plays all the other clubs an equal amount over say a three year period.

Of course this is all pie in the sky. It will never happen.

This is round 5, so the return derby/showdown games would be in round 20 rather than round 22 - unless the return games are being played out of sequence.

I always think that the draw from round 16-22 should be a completely different 7 rounds rather than just the original 7 repeated. It would give a completely different level of flexibility to the fixture list - for instance the WA derby could be fixtured on the Foundation Day Monday in Perth when derby matches have traditionally been played. You'd have to have the proviso that no team played another team twice away though.

I think it'd be great! Love to see the Port boys wear the prison bars again. :D

“This round may include clubs playing in their foundation strips, a concept that was so successful in the Centenary Year of 1996. Perhaps we’ll see Brisbane in the famous maroon and blue of one its parent clubs – Fitzroy – in what, coincidentally, will be a round 19 replay of today’s match against Collingwood,” he said.

That means we play Brisbane twice....... Good, twice the dose of revenge ;)

They could go very silly as well with chopping around teh rounds. A few years ago the NRL had a weird draw where teams played each other a couple of weeks apart. Not sure what it was trying to achieve.
