Don't change a bloody thing. Sure the fans of the teams involved feel flat and awkward immediately after, same as the players, but that's part of it. You don't want to feel like it was all for nothing, you darn well better make sure you outscore your opposition.

In saying that its not actually for nothing, both clubs still get 2 important points.

Somewhat negates percentage if you can use it to your advantage.

A draw and 2 pts each is the most honest result for the H&A fixture, don’t artificially create a result when it’s not required.

For finals it’s simple..if the scores are level when the siren is due..don’t blow it. Keep playing until there’s a score to break the deadlock and hit the siren.

Finals need a winner.
A draw and split points is a totally reasonable result for a h&a game.
Knockout finals do but the GF doesnt really as there is no further progression.
As someone said, a draw is a result, so a drawn GF is a result.
Now, lets have that 2010 cup Pies fans so we can cut it in half and give the Saints their rightful share of the result.

Its stupid to allow the draw in H&A and then change it for knockout finals.
Just ditch it altogether and have consistency in atleast one aspect of the game.

Golden point in the NRL is amazing, love the theatre.

The draw is AFL is equally as exciting, so many more scoring variables in AFL makes the draw work.
Golden point in the NRL is terrible. One of the worst parts of the game is teams just trying to set up for a field goal for 10 minutes

They have a lot more draws in soccer and you never see their media or supporters calling for extra time every time they have one.
Graham Cornes on 5AA is suggesting a penalty shoot out to decide the result. 35 meters out, directly in front with man on the mark. Best of 5 then sudden death.

I could imagine it being like the movie BASEketball.

Every time it's the same thing, neutral fans love the draw and overwhelmingly want to keep it.

But the commentators and media heads on TV and radio are always going "deeerrrrr a draw? Why no extra time? So confoosing, nobody knows what to do!?!"
Even though everyone in the crowd knows exactly what a draw means, but it just seems to be too much for these media people to comprehend.
Extra time would remove ten minutes of post-match ****wittery, maybe even time for roaming brian. That is the only positive. Media love it because means keeping people watching/listening for a few extra ad breaks. Therefore the AFL will love it because media money loves it.

Lets go back in time.

The year is 1995.

Collingwood has drawn 2 games during the season. Once in a 111-111 draw with Essendon in rd 4 then again in a 71-71 draw with Footscray in rd 12.

The game goes to overtime, and Collingwood manages to win in overtime both times.

Is it fair that Brisbane miss finals for Collingwood?

No, it isn't. Collingwood get 2 extra chances to win when they wern't good enough to win to begin with.

Overtime and awarding 4 points to the winner can **** off. If you can't win in regulation, you shouldn't get a 2nd chance. Finals Im okay with as you need a winner without stuffing over other teams (would be bs for a team to win the QF, then get 2 weeks off due to a SF draw). But home and away the draw should stand.
