2006 Heritage Round

Let's face it, the Heritage Round concept is dead. All it means is that clubs wear a different jumper - and this year Essendon, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood either didn't or barely changed at all. Adelaide have never worn anything different so theirs is just plain stupid. It was good the first year it was done but it's a bit old hat now. Time for a new idea.

Just because 4 clubs can't or wont participate doesn't mean the concept is dead. There's not much Essendon can do, unless it looks at the roots of its formation. Collingwood could look at wearing the old Brittania jumper. Port's last year, Hawthorn's this year. Brilliant. St Kilda's thin stripes have now been adopted as an away strip or clash jumper. The concept has been an outstanding success.

Replace 'has been' with 'was' and you'd be right.

If we are picking new choices for the uniforms:

Adelaide - the SANFL state uniform from the early 80's;

No way. That has nothing to do with the ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB. State jumpers are earned. Not just given to any two bit footballer. Adelaide do not represent this state. Plus it is disrespectful to the great players that wore the jumper in that era, who have had nothing to do with the Cows.

People in SA are still ********ed off with the fact that they wore a state jumper this year.

The Victorian members and supporters get screwed over with the draw, at least they get an 80's game. Im some what a tad happier then last night :)

Pazza one more, what about Duckworth

You've all forgotten name - Paul van der Haar. :D And Greg Anderson complete with mullet. Johnny Platten. Dunstall with his helmet.

Aah... memories...

If that is true then it's a shame. The heritage concept is informative. It encourages us to look at the history of our clubs. This year's winner was Hawthorn, hands down. The '80's !!
YEAP we had to win something.

At least you get to wear the jumper without the silly Dog on the front, back to the roots of the scrays :thumbsu:

yes, but the fact of the matter is that the adelaide crows is a composite team of the whole sanfl (bar port) and therefore we do represent the whole of south australia.

and to call any player playing at the elite AFL level a two bit player is pretty harsh.

above all, the jumper was approved, and we wore it, and we won. Why squabble over the past. Most would say it was a success.

ON ANOTHER NOTE--- i think the heritage round is a great idea. It doesnt really affect the games one way or another, nor the crowds, but its just a reminder of where the teams have come from, and helps us remember were we are going.

Still doesn't make sence why you wore it? so would it have been ok to wear it before we came in coz you would have been a composite side of us aswell?

The problem with Heritage Round is the glaring inaccuracies in the jumpers, and the re-writing of history, all just to flog jumpers for up to $1000 on ebay.
(I know this, I have to draw all the different variations)
www.footyjumpers.com

As mentioned above, virtually everyone is still wearing the jumper they wore in the 80's in some form.
And those that aren't, have worn the 1980's version as their Heritage jumper in recent years.

Brisbane might get about in the 80's Warwick Capper Gold jumpers, but the rest are pretty much the same.

The 1980's is too recent to make anything of the concept.

A terrible idea.

There'll be something in the conditions of the licence that deals with the issue of Port and black stripes. What Eddie McGuire thinks won't worry the Commission. For all his bleating, Sydney and Brisbane continue to get extra allowances and win premierships whilst Collingwood continues to decline.
I find the contradiction interesting. Collingwood can't alter the jumper even a bit for a clash strip, even if it stays black and white or it won't be Collingwood anymore, but Port can't wear a significantly different black and white jumper or it hurts the Collingwood brand.

Actually at this time next year, Brisbane wont have their extra allowance

originally Port wanted to join the afl first but in the end Adelaide won the bid and became a team, because SA wanted a team for all South Australians, not just one team. Port was angry, and therefore the orginal adelaide team was seen as a composite team of the whole SANFL, except for the SANFL port team, because they wanted no part of it, as they wanted to enter the afl on their own.

If this means I can buy the AFL's equivalent of the NRL retro jerseys, with the old style fabric and even the sponsors that were on the jumper back then, I'm all for it.

Would kill for an old-style black stripes on white Collingwood jumper, with the collar and Spicers Paper plastered on it.
