Re: Is Leon a chance for AA this Year?

Seriously, he's well behind players like Daniel Motlop, Stokes, Akermanis and Steve Johnson. Even Nathan G. Brown is ahead of Davis.
i agree with all but Nathan Brown lol. As if Brown has had a better season then Davis. C'mon really.

Re: Is Leon a chance for AA this Year?

No chance that Leon "I get cheap possessions the backline" Davis will make it.
yeah thats right Sammy Fisher!

He wont get AA but he has had a great season and if he plays like this last month for all of next season then he will make it.
Medhurst probably will be the only Collingwood player in the team, Swan may make the 40 but wont get into the 22.

I'll kick off the new thread with my squad of 40 ATM:

DEFENDERS (12):
Nathan Bock (Adelaide)
Matthew Scarlett (Geelong)
Tom Harley (Geelong)
Darren Milburn (Geelong)
Corey Enright (Geelong)
Trent Croad (Hawthorn)
Luke Hodge (Hawthorn)
Daniel Pratt (North Melbourne)
Sam Fisher (St.Kilda)
Max Hudghton (St.Kilda)
Craig Bolton (Sydney)
Dale Morris (Western Bulldogs)

MIDFIELDERS (16) (INC. 3 RUCKMAN):
Scott Thompson (Adelaide)
Simon Black (Brisbane)
Chris Judd (Carlton)
David Hille (Essendon)
Gary Ablett (Geelong)
Joel Corey (Geelong)
Jimmy Bartel (Geelong)
Joel Selwood (Geelong)
Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)
Drew Petrie (North Melbourne)
Matthew Richardson (Richmond)
Brett Deledio (Richmond)
Lenny Hayes (St.Kilda)
Brett Kirk (Sydney)
Dean Cox (West Coast)
Adam Cooney (Western Bulldogs)

FORWARDS (12):
Jonathan Brown (Brisbane)
Brendan Fevola (Carlton)
Paul Medhurst (Collingwood)
Alan Didak (Collingwood)
Matthew Pavlich (Fremantle)
Steve Johnson (Geelong)
Lance Franklin (Hawthorn)
Brent Harvey (North Melbourne)
Nick Riewoldt (St.Kilda)
Ryan O'Keefe (Sydney)
Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs)
Jason Akermanis (Western Bulldogs)

Notable omissions to some would be Sandilands and Mackie who seem to be in alot of people's teams but I don't rate their seasons as high as others.
Roughead, Hayes, Porplyzia, Cross, K.Cornes, Power, Bradshaw, Patfull, Motlop, Goddard, Newman and Chapman all unlucky.

My AA team:
B: Tom Harley (c); Matthew Scarlett; Dale Morris
HB: Sam Fisher; Nathan Bock; Corey Enright
C: Matthew Richardson; Sam Mitchell; Adam Cooney
HF: Ryan O'Keefe; Nick Riewoldt; Brent Harvey
F: Paul Medhurst; Lance Franklin; Brendan Fevola
R: Dean Cox; Gary Ablett; Jimmy Bartel
INT: David Hille; Joel Corey; Simon Black; Matthew Pavlich

in fairness hille IMO has dominated quite a few more games then sandilands, does the most 'bullocking' work of any ruckmen

Hille had a really good stretch of games in the 2nd half of the season but I think Sandilands has been more consistent and deserves the gig.

Not a bad squad I think but putting my Collingwood hat on I'd pick Leon over Aker, even Didak. Would like to see Swan in the midfield mix.. possibly ahead of Thompson or Deledio.
Good effort though..

B: Tom Harley, Matthew Scarlett, Max Rooke
HB: Corey Enright, Andrew Mackie, Darren Milburn
C: Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel, Joel Corey
HF: Ryan Gamble, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
F: Paul Chapman, Tom Lonergan, Travis Varcoe
Foll: Brad Ottens, Gary Ablett, Joel Selwood
I/C: Mark Blake, Brent Prismall, Mathew Stokes, Harry Taylor

Wojcinski and Egan unlucky.

Maybe squeeze Franklin onto the bench...

I'd also like to question the exclusion of Motlop.

8th in goals for the year at the moment.

Ahead of Riewoldt, Richo, Medhurst, Steve Johnson, Aker among others. Just in goals, but it shows he's had a very solid year. Number 1 small/medium forward in goals scored.

He'd be the only Port player anywhere near the list though.

How can you pick Hille over Sandliands when Sandi gets 50% more hit outs a game and averages close to the same stats around the ground?

he is too predictable with his taps, and now the oppostion get more of an advantage than the dockers do from his hitouts

btw, Cameron Ling would be quite unlucky not to get the role of tagger this year IMO

This blows me away. Never in a million years would I have guessed Motlop would be anywhere near the top ten goalkickers for the season, which is quite strange considering I rated him so highly when he was at North.

Out of sight, out of mind (from a Victorian perspective)?

Out of sight, out of mind (from a Victorian perspective)?

We do get a bit of that, as do all the non vic clubs i'd imagine. If you're near the top of the league everyone knows all about you, but in a bad year you're not interesting so you don't get noticed. Same goes for things like Rising Star Noms and stuff like that.

It's not like Victorians don't rate interstate based players, they just don't get to hear a lot about them.

Motlop will just about make the AA team I reckon - leaving him out of the top 40 is an oversight surely. Also, anyone who reads the Herald Sun would not have left Leon Davis off the list of 40. Leon is more likely to make the team than Didak or Medhurst in my view.

Otherwise the list was pretty good. I don't reckon Patfull though

Motlop has kicked alot of goals I agree.. he is very accurate on goal and that makes him look good... however on 10 occasions this year he has had less than 10 touches.. not enough imo

B: Dale Morris, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley
HB: Luke Hodge, Nathan Bock, Corey Enright
C: Matthew Richardson, Simon Black, Adam Cooney
HF:Lance Franklin, Nick Riewoldt, Brent Harvey
F: Paul Medhurst, Brendon Fevola, Ryan O'Keefe
Foll: Dean Cox, Gary Ablett Jr, Jimmy Bartel

INT: Matthew Pavlich, Leon Davis, Joel Corey, David Hille.
EMG: Dane Swan, Joel Selwood, Steve Johnson.

Pavlich on the bench merely to ensure the forward line isn't too tall. He deserves a spot though, so the bench is sufficient.

I previously didn't think Leon deserved a spot, but I've changed my mind. He might average a couple of possessions less, and slightly less goals... but there are few that use the ball better than he does, and his ability to 'ignite' (even though the others do too, I just think he does it better) gets him over the line against Johnson and Akermanis IMO.

Obviously there are a few picks/omissions that won't please people, I guess that's the beauty of subjectivity.

this is my attempt at it

Morris Scarlett Fisher

Enright Bock Harley

Corey Bartel Richardson

O'Keefe Riewoldt Murphy

Fevola Franklin Cooney

Cox Ablett Harvey

Hille Mitchell Judd Pavlich

A big question im having trouble with is Ling, yeah he is in great form as a tagger and would be a shoe-in imo if they pick a tagger, but will they? As if they dont imo Ling wouldnt be a chance?

Others thoughts?

I did forget Leon Davis, so I swapped him for Didak. I don't think Motlop has the consistency to make the squad. Bradshaw is in the top 5 for goalkicking and I don't have him either. Just because Motlop is in the top 10 for goals doesn't mean he warrants selection.
I moved Hodge to the defenders for Patfull and put Swan in the midfielders. Swan and Hodge probably warrant selection more than Patfull.

Motlop - No Hope. He is behind the following
Key position forwards - Franklin, Roughead, Fevola, Riewoldt, Pavlich, Brown and Bradshaw
Smaller Forwards - Stokes (Geelong), Steve Johnson, Chapman, Rob Murphy, Brad Johnson, Akermanis, Medhurst, Didak and O'Keefe

Their are probably others as well. Motlop can be brilliant but he is too erratic.

B: S Fisher, M Scarlett, C Newman
HB: B Goddard, N Bock, L Gilbee
C: M Richardson, J Bartel, B Harvey
HF: M Pavlich, N Riewoldt, R O'Keefe
F: J Akermanis, L Franklin, J Brown
R: D Cox, G Ablett, A Cooney
I: C Judd, S Black, A Sandilands, D Bradshaw
