Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Cincinatti select...

TE John Carlson, Notre Dame

Arguably the best TE in the draft (my favourite draft site: NFL Draft Countdown has him number 1), the Bengals need a pass catching TE to complement Kelly who is more of a blocker. Will make that offence even more potent

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

I just saw this post and I apologize for my late arrival. As Chairman of the Atlanta Falcons Big Footy Club I officially am firing manureid for selecting Matt Ryan with our #1 draft pick.

haha let me guess you would of taken Dorsey? You better have got yourself a run-stopper since your divisional rival Panthers picked up DMAC at #13 ;) ....gotta stop him somehow. Or would you have taken DMac with your pick?

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Houston was always looking for DB help so now's a good time to get someone. I was considering Chevis Jackson and Tyvon Branch and Terrell Thomas, but there are a lot of question marks on all them, while the following player has more upside than all of them tho sharing most of the same flaws as the other players.

Houston selects .... CB Charles Godfrey, Iowa

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

We could just turn this mock into a Brushback style draft :D

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

With pick 81, the Philadelphia Eagles select:

Chris Ellis, Virginia Tech, DE.

ellis2006_13.jpg

Sorry bout the size.

The Eagles have a need at DE, after an ineffective pass rush this year. Theyve tried to boost that with the signing of Chris Clemons, the Raiders sack leader last year, but itll need more work than that. I see the Eagles trying to add a number of players who might be able to make an impact on the ends, and Ellis fits in here with a pretty impressive 4.71 40 time.

Haha, I was wondering where you had gotten to and was awaiting your arrival.

If you are going to be around now you can take the Falcoons back........

And you can now officially change your name to Ryan<Footy

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

With their 2nd pick in the third round, and the 83rd pick overall, the Vikings select TE Martellus Bennett, Texas A&M

Another position I'm convinced the Vikings will look to upgrade in this years draft is Tight End. Visanthe Shiancoe (27 receptions, 323 yards, 0 TDs) was a major bust after coming across from the Giants and Jimmy Kleinsasser is only used as a blocker on the offence. The problem with this is that teams will crowd the box when Kleinsasser is on the field, and don’t have to put a lot of thought into defending Shiancoe when he’s on the field. What the Vikings need is a tight end who can catch as well as block, and someone with the size to be the outlet pass that Jackson needs on receiving plays when downfield options are covered.

The player that stands out to me is Martellus Bennett. Bennett, at 6’6 and 259 lbs, is a prototypical Tight End. Added to this, is his 4.68 speed and his ability to be a top blocker as well as a great receiver. At Texas A&M, Bennett was in a more run oriented offense, where he was forced to be a blocker more than a receiver. Even with the Aggies’ offense, he still managed to pull in 49 receptions for 585 yards.

If selected in the real draft, I'd be looking for Bennett to take starting minutes off both Shiancoe and Klienssasser this year at the Vikes.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

pale_rider hasnt been online for almost two weeks, therefore i will pick for him

Tampa's biggest need is DT, as such they must take one here, and most likely earlier, they select...

DT DeMario Pressley, North Carolina State

gg is on the clock

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Washington selects HB Matt Forte, Tulane

Portis needs a back-up. Betts is on the wane. Could have gone any number of defensive players but went this way instead. People will disagree with the pick.
hmmm, you're not wrong, some will disagree

surely with the unfortunate death of sean taylor the skins need a safety, and at the very least depth at the position, betts is still good enough to be a backup and portis still shows talent, as well as cartwright being there

terrible pick IMO given the need at safety

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

There's plenty of safeties in the following rounds. They'd just be depth anyway to LaRon Landry anyway (who was drafted first round last year).
someone has to start opposite him, there are 2 safeties! Doughty doesnt inspire confidence, and anyway, Forte projects more as a FB than a true RB and Sellers already gives a solid contribution at that position

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

True that someone has to start opposite him, but again, there are plenty of them further ahead, and they're all much of a muchness from here on thru imo.

And who's projecting Forte as a FB? And how is Forte not a "true" RB?

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Hmmm...Whilst I don't think it is the Redskins most pressing issue atm... It definitely isn't a bad choice... A nice power back... Didn't he over 2k rushing yards and 20-something rushing TD's last year? It was hardly Portis' most impressive year to date. Very impressive player...

Safeties depth is low this year, so picking one up early (Well, one of the best) is a must for the Skins...

A good pick, just not what I was expecting considering the needs of the team. Then comes the question, which is more important for the Skins future success??? Solidifying the future O or trying to hole up the D with the best available defensive players?

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

The Titans select Shawn Murphy, G, Utah State

With Olsen's retirement, Guard suddenly becomes a priority for the Titans.
