Great win by the Flyers to nab that final spot. A great month and half ahead now.

So, what are we thinking?

In the EAST we've got:
Washington v Montreal
New Jersey v Philadelphia
Buffalo v Boston
Pittsburgh v Ottawa

And the WEST:
San Jose v Colorado
Chicago v Nashville
Vancouver v Los Angeles
Phoenix v Detroit

My tips:
CAPS in 6
DEVILS in 6
SABRES in 5
PENGUINS in 5

SHARKS in 6
HAWKS in 5
CANUCKS in 7
RED WINGS in 6

East

1 Washington V 8 Montreal

Washingtons firepower will be at Halak (or price) for too long in this series.

The habs goal tending will be strong enough to stay strong most of the series but eventually, will break.

Washington in 6

2 New Jersey V 7 Philly

Broduer Vs Boucher....

.........

Devils in 5

3 Buffalo V 6 Boston

Miller will hopefully be still hurting from the olympics and if so we could see one of the early candidates for the conn smyth on an underrated buffalo team. Only question, Could he be tired?

Sabres in 6

4 Pittsburgh v 5 Ottawa

I think Ottawa is good enough to scare Pittsburgh early and make this a long series, but eventually wont be able to silence the penguins top stars

Pens in 7

WEST

1 San Jose Sharks V 8 Colorado Avalanche

Gotta love the way the avs went about this year. Drafted two studs, picked up a cheap gun goaly and got back into the playoffs after a terrible 08/09.

Got a feeling though that it will be a short run. San Jose have been my SC pick all year, and I have a feeling No show Joe turns things around this year and leads the sharks to teh SCF. The talent in San Jose's locker room combined with now 3 cup winners on the roster should be enough for them to fend off the young avs.

Sharks in 5

2 Chicago V 7 Nashville

Interesting series here. The Preds will hold no fears against this division opponent. Especially as the preds have the edge in net. The only problem i see ( a big one) when you stack Chicagos offense against Rinne, then pit nashvilles offense against Niemi, the hawks offense is that good that the edge in the series and in net goes their way, im rooting for nashville but cant go past chicago

Hawks in 6

3 Vancouver V 6 LA

Have a feeling this series will be a mirror image of what the canucks did to St louis a year ago.

Vancouver in 4

4 Phoenix v 5 Detroit

Phoenix finally makes the playoffs then runs into a rampant detroit team. Can Bryzgalov be good enough at home to hold off the wings?

Special teams will be the biggest factor in this series. Phoenix must stop Detroits PP and they have to score and take advantage when they get some.

I like the wings here, too good, too experienced and they're fresh. Setting up a possible match against the sharks in the second round.

Wings in 7

East

WSH 4 MTL 1
- WSH with to much offense and depth. Halak may steal a game or two for MTL

NJ 4 PHI 2
- Could go to 7 games, Boucher not the best G to have as your starter come playoffs, but you never know, some G always plays out of their skin come POs. NJ game probably too good.

BUF 4 v BOS 2
- BUF should win comfortably. Rask has played well for BOS and could win them a few games. BOS however, haven't scored enough goals per game this season.

PIT 4 v OTT 2
- PIT should have too much firepower.

West

SJ 4 v COL 1
- SJ should win comfortably against the young Avs. I think the games will be close though. Anderson could steal a game or two if he plays anything like the start of the season. SJ are well known for choking in the POs, but don;t think it will be against the Avs.

CHI 4 v NSH 2
- Chicago with too much depth and firepower

VAN 4 v LA 3
- VAN should win, don't know what to expect from the LA G-tending, but they have a solid group of fowards and D to make this a competitive series.

DET 4 v PHO 3
- I want DET to lose, but gut is saying a close series, with DET the winners. So much PO experience and they have been one of the best teams since the Olympics. PHO have the edge in G-tending, however.

EAST
Washington v Montreal in 4
New Jersey v Philadelphia in 6
Buffalo v Boston in 7
Pittsburgh v Ottawa in 5

WEST
San Jose v Colorado in 6
Chicago v Nashville in 5
Vancouver v Los Angeles in 6
Phoenix v Detroit in 5

Washington v Montreal in 4
Too strong for Montreal. Don't think even Halak could steal one

New Jersey v Philadelphia in 7
Tight contest even though Philly have been crap

Buffalo v Boston in 6
Low scoring teams, good goal tending teams... will be an intriguing battle

Pittsburgh v Ottawa in 6
Ottawa should be a good challenge for the pens.

San Jose v Colorado in 5
Sharks should be too good for the baby avs (holds breath)

Chicago v Nashville in 7
Rinne on fire, Chicago with Huet/Niemi in net.

Vancouver v Los Angeles in 7
Best series of the lot imo. Good goaltending, good scoring, good defencemen.

Phoenix v Detroit in 7
Battle of the OT/Shootout secialists

EAST
Washington v Montreal in 5
The Habs might snatch a game off the Caps, but I can't really see them doing much more harm to the President's Trophy winners. The team that beats Washington is going to need far more solid goaltending and defence than Montreal can offer, I'd say.

New Jersey v Philadelphia in 6
Ask me one day, I'll say Jersey in 4, then the next day, Jersey in more. Who knows? Philadelphia won five of the teams' six meetings throughout the regular season, which should be enough to say there should be a fight for this one. If the Flyers had a goaltender, I'd say this would go to seven with the winner being whoever can score more. Given it'll be Brodeur vs. Boucher (barring injuries), I can't tip against NJ. Kovalchuk a big unknown in this one.

Buffalo v Boston in 5
If Miller comes to play, it won't last long. Losing Marc Savard will obviously really hurt the Bruins. I'm really interested to see how Tuukka fares in the playoffs, assuming he gets the nod ahead of Thomas.

Pittsburgh v Ottawa in 6
I have a feeling this series will come down to how well Evgeni Malkin plays. The other two-headed monster that is Volchenkov and Phillips have historically enjoyed shutting down Crosby. If Malkin can't support his captain with some of what we saw last playoff season, the Sens will be a big chance. Fleury needs to lift his game in a big way.

WEST
San Jose v Colorado in 6
The perennial shakey playoff performer up against a team many thought would bet a bottom feeder once more. Would be surprised to see the Avs win the series, but they are playing the Sharks.

Chicago v Nashville in 5
Too much talent in Chi town, you'd think. I like the even spread across Nashville's lineup, but I just can't tip against the Hawks.

Vancouver v Los Angeles in 7
A serious contender against a Cinderella team with some young studs. Wouldn't be surprised to see this go either way.

Phoenix v Detroit in 5
The whiteout is back!...but it might only last three games, finishing up covered in sticky, purple octopus ink. Bryzgalov has put his hand up as a Vezina candidate, and possible Hart candidate (if there were five candidates, he'd be in, IMO), but I'm not sure if he'll be enough to ward off the veteran lineup from the Motor City.

David Jones and Peter Mueller should be good for game 3.

If we could sneak a win out of these first two at the Tank, then bring it back to the Can, we'll give ourselves every chance to win this series.

So excited, we're almost fully fit, let's see what this team can really do. Remember the last time we were fully fit, we dominated October.

The East

Capitals over Canadiens 4-3
-The tone of this series will be determined in the first period of the first game, all about weathering the storm, Montreal will play deep to reduce Washington's fast breakouts and odd man rushes. Montreal to use their speed in counter attacking. It is J Martin's style and as evidence in the regular season where Washington did't fair too well against it. Will be interesting to see how Theodore plays in Montreal as I believe he has only played there once since leaving
Penguins over Senators 4-1
-Senators stink
Sabres over Bruins 4-1
-Wake me up when this one is over
Devils over Philly 4-2
-Boucher is the difference here, Holmgren is a fool

The West

Sharks over Avs 4-3
-Goaltending determines this series. Can Nabakov get these playoff charlatans over the line? Has he put his Olympic capitualtion behind him? Denver Nordiques with nothing to lose. Anderson runs out of gas here..
Red Wings over Coyotes 4-2
-Close series. Coyotes become confused when the siren doesn't sound after 5 minutes of overtime. Experience and good form gets the Red Wings to the next round
Canucks over Kings, 4-1
-Playoff debutante Quick gets found out here. Canucks with too much fire power although I'd be worried about their decimated defence corps.
Blackhawks over Predators 4-2
-Offence vs defence here, Blackhawk firepower should win it in six tough games, will be interesting to see how Rinne handles playoff hockey

Despite only copping 14 shots Broduer lets in 2, and the flyers win, they played devils type defense in front of boucher

So Boucher gets the early edge...he started well, but i still strongly doubt he can do it as a starter in 2-3 or 4 games in a row.

I expect the devils to still win in 5..

Thanks Rob Blake. That's for that shocker hit on Mueller. Great game Avs. Take out the first five minutes and a small stretch after Clowe's goal, we had them. Great stuff.

San Jose had a bunch of chances in the first, couldn't get one through.

Well done to the Av's just pressured them the WHOLE game, Sharks never had any time.

I would like to hear another opinion on the goalie interference when the Av's scored in the 3rd? I am probably biased, but I thought it was borderline.

Reg. season that is probably called, and if it wasn't against the Sharks, glad they didn't' call it there.

Blackdiamond, enjoy your game!
