Aussie Gun.

Reading this thread is like watching a Bolton vs. Stoke match.

How could you leave Swan out? He is the AA team!

He's also a future hall of famer based on the reaction to his game on the weekend. We all know Collingwood players never get picked though. So Leon Davis will probably have to be Brownlow favourite come the end of the season to stay it the team.
It would be funny if none got in just to keep the perception going. Medhurst had to go and wreck it last year though.

curious as to how selwood gets in the midfield ahead of pendlebury.

also presti deserves a gig at full back - i know it won't happen though..

Because he's the toughest SOB i've seen since Paul Kelly. I have Montagna, Selwood, Judd, Ablett and Dal Santo as the best midfielders this year. Then it's Sewell, Hayes, Pendlebury, Boyd and Davey in the next bunch. I went with Sewell and Hayes but I completely understand people who pick Pendlebury
If the selectors have any idea they will have Presti in the mix for FB.

Fevola is not unlucky. He has been playing like crap.

Great effort all round on the team though.:thumbsu:
He's still kicking goals, which is enough to put him in the unlucky category. Definately not AA form but I like to have at least 5 power forwards in the forward category and Bradshaw, Fevola and Pavlich are probably next best. So I guess they are unlucky.

Great effort to the OP. Surely Hamish gets a gig with Sandilands. Cox is getting in on reputation - he actually hasn't been that influential in games,. Ignore his supercoach scores which flatter him. Sandilands / Hamish have been fab this season.

I'm going to make my one bias call and put Roo as captain. Why? Firstly because he leads the club, like all skippers should, and puts in 10/10 each game. Undoubtably. I don't doubt judd is the same, but i seperate them on the fact Riewoldt is being the best player in the team sitting 10-0 and has dominated games, in the hardest position on the ground. Judd has a lot less to compete with, so might stand out a bit more. C / VC to either of them, both awesome, but maybe Roo can get the nod...

Other choices

OUT: Fisher
IN: Presti

a good effort i thought...

dempsey would be in the squad if it wasnt for injures, and paddy ryder should be one of the top choice for ruckmen tbh. Although i don't think i'd include him for actual selection in the final 22, but squad consideration definitely!
As I say with every Essendon supporter with Ryder, how can a guy be considered for the AA ruck position when he played his first game in that position in Round 5. Bit of an insult to Cox, Jolly, Sandilands and McIntosh that he can play 4 less games and be ahead of at least one of them. Plus he was average against St.Kilda so 5 out of 10 games doesn't warrant selection for the squad.
Agree with Demspey though.

Recently he hasn't been influential. Start of the season he was producing the goods. I still rate his ouput on par with the other 3 contenders. My only knock on him would be his disposal efficiency but the good in his performances still outweighs the bad. The game against Sydney was the perfect example, he had about 7 clangers but he was main reason they fought back in the last quarter and nearly won.

Tried to forget reputations and just pick on who has been best this year.

A great thread

Presti to my and many other collingwood supporters ahs been amazing this year, given the win loss ratio and success of respective midfields it makes presti's stats even more impressive.
100% certain squad member and finding it difficult not to have him starting on the ground.
Rucks - always a tough decision - i think Sandilands gives first use of the ball that often that given an upgraded midfield he would be considered gold, can you imagine if he was at Geelong!!!!

great discussions though and will make for interesting reading as the year progresses
my hats off to you "aussie gun" - well done

Yeh good point, Judd gets the ball and Murphy waits for the handball recieve, whereas Watson has to win his own hard ball.

Obviously don't watch him. Murphy has very high conteted posession counts, usually on par with Judd.

Oh yeh and Watson has always got the opposition's best clearance stopper on him, whereas Murphy gets to run around doing what he likes. :thumbsu:

Lol. When has Watson ever been tagged?

My thoughts atm pretty similar to the OP
B:
Josh Drummond Matthew Scarlett Craig Bolton
HB: Matthew Boyd Sam Fisher Brendan Goddard
C: Leigh Montagna Joel Selwood Chris Judd
HF: Aaron Davey Nick Riewoldt (c) Paul Chapman
F: Steve Johnson Lance Franklin Leon Davis
R: Dean Cox Gary Ablett Lenny Hayes
INT: Hamish McIntosh Brad Sewell Nick Dal Santo Scott Pendlebury

and yes I am aware there's at least 3 guys well out of position in that team, but I'd rather have all the best players than end up with Rioli in a FP for instance.

btw glad others agree and I wasn't getting ahead of myself by thinking 4 of our 5 starting midfielders are well in contention (Hayes, Goddard, Montagna, Dal Santo)

But you don't have Franklin and he is the leading goal-kicker in the AFL.

I'm talking about the squad not the actual team. I think Franklin has been better than Fevola, but both have been good while ordinary at the same time. All the key forwards have been ordinary except Riewoldt. I went with Tredrea in the actual team because he has had more match winning/game changing moments this year than Brown, Franklin, Roughead and Fevola. Pavlich and Fev have been going further up the ground then usual though. Bradshaw has also spent some time down back. I don't think it's going to be a big year for the key forwards.

Riewoldt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tredrea>>Franklin/Brown/Roughead>>>>Bradshaw/Fevola>>>Pavlich

I nearly did, but Fisher has been a massive part of the best defence in the league. But this backline doesn't look to bad either:
B: Sam Gilbert; Matthew Scarlett; Simon Prestigiacomo
HB: Josh Drummond; Craig Bolton; Brendan Goddard

I'd love to see Presti in there...but don't think you can have both he and Scarlett in the same team. Both have proven that they are incapable of leaving the defensive 50. They become very lost. So neither could play a CHB role.

I know the AA team doesn't have to be the best team balance...but i like to try and make a realistic team that would beat any team on its day with a good balance.

So therefore i think Scarlett gets the nod over Presti. Atleast Bolton has a bit more variety and can play a bit higher if needed such as CHB. Fisher offers more run and again is more versatile.

Very unlucky for Presti...but I'm not fussed with him not making the team because in the end he is not there to be an elite player of the comp...he is just there to get the job done with minimal fuss.

that's cool mate...just quizzing you on that point. It's all subjective. I like your team, but obviously everyone is giong to see things differently

I'd have Franklin in simply because he is the leading goal-kicker despite the fact his team has won as many games as Port Adelaide. I don't think it matters that he is not playing as good as last year...all that matters is that he is playing better than anyone else.

Riewoldt is a lock and is a mile ahead of anyone else right now.

Fraser Gherig won the Coleman one year but Barry Hall was preferred at AA full-forward.
Just because you kick the most goals doesn't mean you're the best player.

Fevola is not unlucky. He has been playing like crap.

Great effort all round on the team though.:thumbsu:

He's only had more shots on goal than anybody in the competition...

While he hasn't been great, I'd say he's been at least on par with Franklin. Has had 6 or so more shots than Franklin though accuracy has hurt him.

What he hasn't done is give away the most free kicks in the competition. Franklin might have kicked 3 more goals but he's also given away 19 more free kicks than Fev.

B: S. Gilbert, S. Prestigiacomo, M. Scarlett
HB: J. Drummond, S. Fisher, B. Goddard
C: J. Winderlich, D. Swan, J. Selwood
HF: G. Ablett, N. Riewoldt, S. Johnson
F: M. LeCras, L. Franklin, E. Betts
R: D. Jolly, C. Judd (c), L. Montagna
Int: J. Watson, C. Enright, M. Lloyd, D. Cox

Wow - was not expecting those 2. Stanton maybe but not Winder.
