Early odds have us equal title favourites, with us and Brisbane paying $5.50 for the title win. Seems fairly insane considering we finished 8th last season, but then again Syndey are $6.50 so it shows how ridiculous the market is. (According to Luxbet)
I'll neck myself if Sydney FC wins a title this year.
3 year deal for Milligan :thumbsu:

Can sell him to a middle eastern team in the future if we want to
Yes, very smart. But would we want to sell him? He's a great player.

Anyway, we really need to smack the traitors first round up.

Eh, I don't really feel that much of a seething hatred for Adelaide. Not as much as I do for the traitors or for Sydney. Our rivalry is a healthy one rather than a bitter one.

But yeah, it would be nice to beat them too.

Not now but say in 2 years time he'll be 28 and might recieve an offer from the middle east that would dwarf what he earns here.
I doubt he's gonna make it in europe as a player even though i rate him pretty highly.

Apparently we've entered into some kind of joint sponsorship agreement with Tasmania, seems to be a positive move to increase the membership base and find some talent over there. Only thing that concerns me is that it may lead to selling games interstate, particularly when Victory start talking about "Tasmanian membership packages".

I like the Tasmania thing. Will be good to wave around whenever Heart supporting traitors regurgitate that idiotic propaganda about Victory being a corporate club that doesn't contribute to the community at all. It will grow the game as well. Everyone is a winner.

We had a home game in tassie last yet anyway against GC.

Somehow managed to blow a lead and end up with a draw

Did you miss the rest of the season?

Is anyone else looking at the blaring positive of us having a positive impact on the Tasmanian community and on football in general?

Anyway, who's been going to the local practice matches? 3-0 against Oakleigh last night. 2-1 against Port Melbourne last week.

The possibility of moving a couple of home games to Tassie in the future in some variant of Hawthorn-Tasmania deal does exist in the extended future, otherwise sooner or later assuming we get Tasmanian members they're gonna want to see A-League games rather than friendlies at some point. Thats really the only concerning thing about this, but I do agree the positives for the move far outweigh the negatives.

Lol fair point

Also according to Michael Lynch Flores visa has come through and should arrive the next day or so

Victory will play 1 game a year till 2015 in Tassie part of the "Community" matches that Melbourne, Wellington and West Sydney have this season. Being a Saturday this season too should bring more numbers through the gate which is where they failed last seaon making these matches weeknights

Losing to Richmond in a friendly, not good but it's only pre season.

It's annoying to think that's all the news we have at the moment, this thread is dead because of it!

Dilevski's been rubbish so far. Perhaps we will have to persist with Fosch.

He was a waste of space in that game but I'd give him time, don't forget the squad have only played together a couple of months. Nice to see Finkler getting on the scoresheet, although defensively we were appalling.

Finkler scored against Port Melbourne as well.

Dunno why anyone is negative about Fosch. He has clearly shown he's the top RB for us at the moment. Dilevski is a backup.

Brox scored one of the, right?

Game was eh, but one had to settle down and remember we're just trying things pout and experimenting at the moment.

Interested to hear other people's thoughts on this but I figure it may be time to start trying to put together a starting 11 considering we're probably done in the transfer market, heres my attempt, a sort of modified 4-2-3-1 formation.

------------Velaphi------------
Traore--Leijer--Franjic--Dilevski
------Bru--------Milligan------
Finkler-----Flores-------Rojas--
----------Thompson-----------

Bench: Thomas, Cernak, Jeggo, Foschini

Bru and Milligan to press opposition and provide the link between the defence and the more attacking midfielders as well as dropping back to help out our fairly vulnerable back 4. Finkler and Rojas to attack the flanks and provide wide options, Flores to be the lynchpin and create the goal scoring opportunities, I'd play him fairly deep to take advantage of his phenomenal passing ability. The others are pretty self-explanatory, Thompson as a goal poacher with the exclusive role of goal-scoring, the full-backs to mostly defend to ensure we don't exposed out wide and the centre-backs to play their natural role. I'm strongly against playing a conventional 2 strikers as I believe we don't have the goal-scoring quality in guys like Markelis and Allsopp, that's why I reckon we play a lone striker with strong midfield support.

That looks okay. I'd have Fish starting ahead of Dilevski, especially on preseason form. And Flores and Finkler switched around to better suit both of them. I think Ange said at some point that he'd like to try out a 4-2-2-2 with Finkler as the other striker.

Milligan can play CB as well. I'd be inclined to switch Franjic for Jeggo if that works out.

The backline is the main issue. Franjic and Fosch work their butts off and I have faith that they will eventually grow into great players, but they will still be very green this season. Leijer is up and down. Traore is merely solid. We might be a bit thin on pure strikers but I don't think we'll have problems attacking. The midfield has all the makings of being elite once they gel and should help out there. Archie is getting on but he's still class. Allsopp is competent too, and Markelis is a great talent.

I more or less agree, but last year we were continually exposed because our back 4 lacked support from the midfield, we effectively had no link in the transition from defense to attack, we'd clear it and it would come right back in again. On top of that Fabio and Foschini were beaten far too often when they pushed forward, from what I remember a fair few of our goals came from them being caught out of position when the counter attack came. Our only strategy going forward was to get it to Archie, who fell apart towards the end of the season and couldn't hit a barn door. This in particular is what I think we haven't addressed, for me Finkler is far more of an attacking mid than a striker, Allsopp is too old and Markelis is just a kid.

Hmm, how about

-------------Velaphi------------
Traore---Leijer----Franjic---Fosch
------Jeggo---Bru---Milligan------
---Flores----------------Rojas--
-----------Thompson-----------

With Finkler on the bench? Might make it easier to defend with those three at the back.

Or:

------------Velaphi------------
Traore--Leijer--Milligan--Fosch
------Bru-----------Jeggo------
------------Finkler------------
-Flores------------------Rojas--
----------Thompson-----------
