2011 crowds

Great week 1 crowds, but looks like the coming weekend will be much quieter. Hard to see Hawks/Swans getting more than 50k, and Subiaco will be full, but can only fit 43k. I'd be surprised if we pass 100k.

You haven't considered the 15,000 final series tickets for the Hawthorn vs Sydney game. Between Final Series tickets, AFL members and MCC members you are looking at 45,000 - 50,000 tickets accounted for. Once you addd in clubs members and the general public you should be looking at around 60,000.

Given the average attendance between the sides is generally low to mid 40,000's, it being a final (plus the 15,000 series ticket holders) could push it beyond 60,000 even if Buddy doesn't play

The Series Ticketing was the primary reason why the Collingwood-West Coast game drew 65,000 instead of 50,000 (par for course for Collingwood-West Coast games)

Similarly you would expect the extra 15,000 that attend the Hawthorn-Sydney game to push the attendance to up and around the late 50,000's to early 60,000's mark

Woeful crowd. Will never be a big 4 Vic club attendance wise. Sydney supporters plus neutrals, would only leave 35K max Hawk supporters for a semi-final? Very poor...Good win though...;)

GO TIGES!!!

Pretty certain that 20k were Swanny supporters, very loud in that third.

Along with the neutrals Hawthorn may have only had 25k there for the final

Very true. I was giving the Hawk crowd 35K at best. 30K would be closer to the mark. Richmond playing in a semi would get 50K Tigers; real big 4...;)

Not quite

Richmond's crowds in finals are obviously enormous :)rolleyes:) but...

Sydney's crowds in Semi Finals at the MCG

2010 - WB V Syd: 39,567
2008 - WB V Syd: 42,371
2004 - STK V Syd: 50,671*

Amazingly the Swans outnumber the opposition in every game

*Restricted compacity

So how does Richmond compare?

Have they every played a non Victorian club at home in a final, anytime?

Richmond has a history of drawing enormous crowds against Sydney, this year being the notable example

Not sure I understand this, given this, surely Richmond would draw 45,000+ to a game against Sydney (Hawthorn have done this 4 times in home and away games)

Anytime, anywhere...because Richmond has an enormous 'army' of fans that is 47,000 strong in membership, right?

55K? Didn't look like that many, but that's just about the expected mark for this game.
Not great but not terrible either.

Agree with this, pretty much in line with the following games;

2001 EF Carlton V Adelaide - 53,982
2000 SF Carlton V Brisbane - 56,972
1999 SF Carlton V West Coast - 55,782
1995 QF Carlton V Brisbane - 52,092
1994 SF Carlton V Geelong - 53,160
1994 QF Carlton V Melbourne - 56,119
1993 SF Carlton V West Coast - 59,213

There is alot of penis envy around here. IMHO, the ones that bitch and criticise others to make themselves look good are in fact the ones with the smallest dicks.

yeah because crowds are comparable to ten years ago.

In 2001 we had 27,000 members (30,000 for the hawks), 2011 we had 43,000 (56,000 for the hawks)
Inn 2001 average crowds were 31,000 for both sides, in 2011 its 53,000 for carlton and 36,000 for hawthorn

yeah because crowds are comparable to ten years ago.

By the same token average crowds in 2001 were a lot larger than 1993 as well

In fact, further to what I posted on the previous page there is evidence that crowds against non Victorian clubs in finals is actually declining

Examples to support this include;
St Kilda/Sydney in 2011
Geelong/Fremantle and W Bulldogs/Sydney in 2010
W Bulldogs/Brisbane and Collingwood/Adelaide in 2009
Bulldogs/Sydney in 2008
Collingwood/Sydney and Hawthorn/Adelaide in 2007
Nth Melbourne/Port Adelaide in 2005
Geelong/Brisbane and St Kilda/Sydney in 2004
Hawthorn/Sydney in 2001

Regarding tonight a crowd of 57-62,000 should have been par for course (being the only final in Victoria this week)

In 2001 we had 27,000 members (30,000 for the hawks), 2011 we had 43,000 (56,000 for the hawks)
Inn 2001 average crowds were 31,000 for both sides, in 2011 its 53,000 for carlton and 36,000 for hawthorn

Naturally discrepancies caused by Carlton playing games at Princes in 2001 and Hawthorn playing games in Tasmania in 2011 plays a significant role in the difference...the comparison is therefore moot (but that is going over old ground with numerous threads where this line of thought has been discussed)

The expectation was 60,000 (according to the MCC) so it was a little disappointing

It'll be interesting to see the numbers for next week;

Collingwood/Hawthorn - 92,000
Geelong/West Coast - 60,000
or
Geelong/Carlton - 84,000

The MCC are Nazis

Only idiots believe their hype
