2011 Draft Prospects

Viney worth a mention too, for the dees supporters. Good little hard nut, nice skills by foot when he gets outside. Slightly outmuscled a time or two, to be expected considering he's playing against bigger and older blokes, but tracking really well for an underager.

Outmuscled? I believe he nearly killed a kid with one of the best blocks I have ever seen at a level under the elite..

HM thanks for you review.
I couldn't get down to Melbourne from Ballarat on Sunday, to see Vc v VM. It's probably a bit unfair to ask (as I know you can't notice, let alone review every one of the 60+ boys who played over the six quarters) but if you or anyone else can give feed back on our local lads from the Rebels, such as O'brien, Watchorn, Pomorin etc. I would be most grateful. I read your review of Coleman Schache with interest.

Also in your humble opinion is there any draft prospects amongst them.

P.S.
Excluding Brad Crouch as he is a first year player, and I am happy to make the early call on him; that is to say barring serious injury he is a very likely first round pick in 2012.
Cheers GS

Great read HM.

I think the VM boys might take it out this year. They seem to have a really good spread of players who can play in the middle and also have good depth. I didnt see the trial game but would think it would be hard to put the best 22 together for VM. Woudl be interested in HM or footyman having a go independantly to see what they thought but my suspicion is there is a lot of depth. They also appear stronger in the KP areas. WA will be very competitive but dont think this is as good a squad as last few years from what I am told. What they will do though is showcase a number of underagers who are exceptional. Am hoping Duffy gets called in as dont think he made original cut (may be wrong) but recent form been v good. Bolger will be good to see vs Longer and not sure where Nelson at but hopefully he is fit and firing. I dont think SA will be nearly as strong as last year although they probably have as good a top 6-7 as the other sides. Ben Kennedy was BOG on the weekend in the SANFL and Hender and Irra both had ripping games from what I was told last night so SA will have a few to watch as well with a view to 2012.

I've been told Fraser Dale comes from Myrtleford so he is considered a Country lad.

Disappointed in game 1. Thought it was scrappy and well below any decent level. Game 2 was better overall. Metro should have a well rounded team across all positions. Plenty to step in if a player has a bad game.

VC without 4 probable walk-ups in Devon Smith (who played school footy this week and just back from a knee injury) Sheahan (194cm KP), Lever (200 Ruck/KP) and Boseley (194 Full Back).

I'm not entirely sold on the VC onball brigade just yet but with Clay Smith, Benbow, Kerridge, Devon Smith, Adams and a Hector or 2 to carry them they might get away with it. Buntine might have to get onball to help out with some muscle.

Certainly Elton, Staley, Lever, Sheahan, Boseley, Marusic, Deery, Gordon, Tudor and Reeves give them some big man power.

If VC get their best 22 on the park they will certainly be competitive but Metro should have enough class overall to get the points.

Can't wait :thumbsu:

Was a great hit, wasn't it? Big, low, cross-body bump using every gram of his body weight. Can't quite remember who it was on though - Haynes maybe, or perhaps Marusic? Bigger bloke anyway, and stopped him in his tracks.

Was more referring to him *almost* getting a couple of very nice burst clearances from traffic, but being unable to get that last step to break a one-handful-of-jumper tackle. But I reckon he'll be doing it just fine next year.

Any comments on Kelly for VC, i understand he played CHB

Jprdan Kelly, right? Can't say paid a huge amount of attention to him - only really noticed him in the 2nd half (not sure if he played in the first) when he got a bit of the ball and offered a bit of rebound. Can't remember who he was on, maybe Tomlinson? But given who VM had up forward, he was probably outsized - Tomlinson and Patton both took a lot of marks and kicked a few.

HM thanks for you review.

Of that batch the only one I really noticed was Watchorn, who was a useful fwd line option for VC in the 2nd half, from limited options. I know Ross played, but I didn't see much of him. Crouch I didn't watch properly.

I expect Schache is draftable, though he's imho lacking in strength a bit at the moment. Haven't seen enough of the others.

Was trying to put together a 22 last night. It's bloody hard. The ruck situation makes things awkward - Longer is a must and can change as a genuinely dangerous kpf, but do you have him going alone, and if not, who his his relief and how do you fit a backup ruckman in a side already overflowing with genuine talls? They'd love to have Daniher available, who can play both roles aand could swap with Longer evenly. And how do you fit Patton, Longer and a CHF in the same forward line without it being unwieldy? They're not exactly overendowed with crumbers or small forwards, after all.

Anyway, picking from the named squad (not including injured blokes like Mascoulis - who'd be guaranteed a hff - and some like Hylton, Barnes, Anastasio, Gallucci and Charleston who I reckon are worth a go but didn't get picked in the squad), I'd go with something like:

B Plowman Paine Hunter
HB Greene Curran Brown
C Sheridan Tyson Newnes
HF Woodward Markworth Sumner
F Totevski Patton Crozier
R Longer Atkins Ellis
I Kennedy Cooke Viney Prowse

A lot of picks for balancing here. Morris probably performing better than Newnes, but we have enough inside guys already and needed another runner. Paine probably better up forward, but he can do the job down back and gives us more flexibility than Talia would. Eventually didn't want to leave Longer to ruck solo, so picked Prowse. When Longer rucks, Prowse to the bench and Markworth to leadup CHF. When Prowse rucks, Longer to kpf and Markworth pushes into the middle.

Hardnuts to spare. Morris, Vlastuin and Woofindin next in line in the middle. Coran and Darrou lining up for the med defender spots.

Something like that, off the top of my head.

Thanks HM - good read.

Like you am surprised Jack Charleston isnt in there. would have like to see Tomlinson get a run but understand the difficult and hence my point about depth. equally so with bussey and talia who I think will become a terrific footballers.

Note Sam Frost didnt play so must still be inj.

Raymann letting the cat out of the bag.

Love the reports Humble Minion.

I wasnt there, but from what i know the kid Raymann asked about played in the first half.

Patton and Tomlinson played in the 2nd.

Real strong VM side.

Curran for me is a natural forward. Defensive skills I'm yet to see but I'd have him at the other end of the ground. Talia is a natural back and one of the better backs I've seen last year and again this year. Fully fit I'd have him CHB for sure.

Just throwing a few points up for discussion. Are these lists available anywhere?

i do like the look of Kelly.

Good to see you are back cashie

Collingwood is heavily into Taylor Adams.
Buckley is a huge fan of this kid from his days coaching the U/16 team.
I know Hine makes these calls, but this is a kid I know Buckley seriously wants.

Where does he play and Will he be in the U-17's or in the Draft Class?

As a Swans fan i am rather disappointed that Tom Mitchell most likely wont be playing in the U18 Championships. He has been injured for over a year now and i only hope it isn't the type of injury that will destroy his AFL career before it has even started.

There was a preview on the AFL website which had some vision of him, I believe Sheahan mentioned that he would come in (hopefully) and start playing about round 4 of the championships.

Thanks for the info. Tom Mitchell is hopefully going to be a gun player and i was getting a bit worried that his injury was going to affect his career. I have no real idea where Mitchell would go in the draft assuming he was fit and he wasn't going to Sydney under the F/S rule but from what i have heard all signs point to him being a very good player.

Yeah good call, cant remember if he is 93 or 94 born though. Played an underage game against him before he went up to the seniors this year, would've comfortably had 35 off a wing. He wasn't Tassie's best player in the under 16 carnival though, that went to my teammate Henry Schade who would have to be a massive chance to go this year in my opinion. :thumbsu:

Bump! Well done to Schadey, deserves every bit of it, worked his nuts off. GC must've rated him hugely to take him at 24. Talked to him on friday night, he's living with O'Meara and mentored by Nathan Bock. Best of luck to the big fella, even if he still wont get a tan up there!

When his name got called out by the Gold Coast, there was definitely a muttered "bastards" behind me in the crowd at the draft. Seemed like he was a popular choice and at least a few were hoping he slipped to their club. :thumbsu:
