Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

It is the biggest what if article for a while.. Dont get your hopes up..

Number 1, we have plenty of $$$ to pay him so that wont be a lure..

2ndly Hille is almost done as a ruck, Bellchambers knows that.

He IS OUR NO1 ruck at the moment.. He hasn't been dropped and has started as the ruckman every game we have played this year so i dont know where Jon Ralph is pulling the lack of opertunities card from..

At the end of the day though Amcre, you wont have any bargaining chips to low ball us with, so you will have to pay full price for a 21 y.o promising ruckman! There isn't too many going around so the price tag might be something/ someone like a Foley....

mmm certainly wouldn't be putting Foley up for that trade, I would say he is one of our untouchables.

The best way for Essendon to go might be sending David Hille to GWS or into early retirement and playing Ryder/Bellchambers.

What would Gumbletons worth be these days? Wouldn't think the bombers could ask for much given his injuries and may look to offload. Although it seems Hirdy is a fan. I think he would be one a few clubs will target...namely Freo.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

We'd be mad not to look at a good offer for Gumby, but anyone else would be mad to make a good offer.
1 full year on the park out of 4.5 is the cold, hard, sad, reality.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

That's pretty much it. You guys probably won't get a good offer for him...but could be worth a go somewhere else, because if his body comes good then that club will have hit a jackpot.

Would happily give up our second rounder which will be around 35-40.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

I think I probably would, amcre, but I think the club's probably seeing it out til the bitter end.
Much like Coughlan @ your mob, they put years into the bloke, they don't want that investment to walk (hobble) out the door for peanuts, even tho chances are when they come back they won't be the same.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Think that EFC will wait till the end of 2012 - And then both parties will probably reach a mutual agreement for Gumby to be traded for a pair of steak knives.

To be honest I think that is the best approach for a footy club when they are in this situation. If Gumbleton did leave for say Freo or Richmond for example and his body came good then you would be shattered a number 2 pick has essentially walked for peanuts. Like Cogs you guys are probably better off seeing his body run into the ground before giving up.

I think we should have kept Cogs but thats another story.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

In the Ryder thread where it says he wants to go back to WA come what may, is that pure BS or a rumour with some legs?

If so, he would have some decent trade value. Thing with trading Ryder though, would clubs trade for him based on what he's done or what they think he could be? God knows he's teased us for long enough

The biggest problem I see though is Freo has Sandilands, Griffin, Clarke and WCE have Cox, Natanui (assume Lycett is tracking alright, looked to have a big future when playing SANFL last year). Why would they trade for another ruckman who plays his best as a ruckman, can play a psuedo KPF and has admitted he doesn't like defence?

If both clubs had weak ruck stocks we'd definitely be able to make a decent offer but I reckon the strength in this area for both WA clubs makes things a bit more difficult.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Freo'd jump at Ryder to rotate with Sandi between the ruck and middle.

I've heard something about him, but that was last year.

I'd take the rumour for that poster with a grain of salt.

Ryder for Fyfe straight up
Ryder + 2nd round for Fyfe
Ryder + ok player for Fyfe
Ryder + ok player + depth player for Fyfe

I'd chew down several grains of salt if there were some substance to the rumour and do any of the above.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

I'd love to keep Ryder but if the rumour has legs we'd be mad to keep a disillusioned player on our list and the WA clubs would hold all the aces. Fyfe is already a damn fine player in just his 2nd season. He will be elite by the end of 2013, if not the end of 2012. Ryder is sometimes a damn fine player who often doesn't live up to the hype. We'd have to give up a lot to get Fyfe.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Ryder and Jetta for Fyfe.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Ryder and Jetta for Fyfe.

That'd be a nice deal if those guys are already thinking about leaving. Not sure what Freo fans would think of it, though I'm sure they'd welcome another ruckman/forward like Ryder.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Very funny.

Ha ha.

Fyfe is untouchable.

Fyfe is a WA boy as well, how often do players of his caliber get drafted to their home state then traded away (GWS/GC aside)?

FWIW I thought Ryder/Jetta were happy together now (not in a gay way), if he's going to stay needs a rocket up the khyber though, intensity is non-existent.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Anyway, as I said, the poster is pretty questionable, with no history of having any insight.

Unless I hear it from my guys, or a few others on this board, I wouldn't pay attention to it.

There where a few unhappy campers in the second half of last year. Ryder needs to take some of his own advice as it was not that long ago he had a fall out with Leroy and his words to Leroy where pull your head in and start working harder.
