Butler, Glass, Waters
Hurn, MacKenzie, Sheppard
Rosa, Shuey, S.Selwood
Strijk, Kennedy, Kerr
LeCras, Wilson, Darling

Cox, Masten, Priddis

Int: Embley, Nicoski, Naitanui
Sub: Gaff

Gaff's showing wasn't the best. Would suggest he would need more influence in the following NAB to assume a spot. I would also think that with endurance being his strongest trait, its a strange choice for the position of sub.

Other than that, I would think sdb's is damn close. Perhaps Swift will continue his good run?

I find these super hard to do. I like a lot of the named teams above but do we need a third tall in our backline? If so one of Butler or Waters need to be swapped for Brown and moved elsewhere because both are clearly best 22.

I agree Gaff doesn't look ready for round 1 but I would really like to play Darling as I loved what I've seen so far. He has a level of compose that gives me great optimism in his future. I'm not sure he gets in ahead of Nico or Lynch though.

Kerr seems the obvious sub choice.

Despite the polls thread indicating that Ebert is best 22 I have no idea how he is unless form lifts ahead before round 1 I'd pick almost every mid we have ahead of him atm.

J. Jones, Glass, Waters
Sheppard, MacKenzie, Hurn
Embley, Shuey, Gaff
Strijk, Kennedy, Darling
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

Cox, Masten, Priddis

Int: Scooter, Swift, Naitanui
Sub: Kerr

This side above is close to our best side.

It has 2 elite runners in Masten and Gaff. Is that enough.

Darling is mobile and aggressive enough to put pressure on the opposition to be played up forward

I was there at the game and just watched the AFL video.
Cox was brilliant in the first game and ran heaps.

Butler Glass Waters
Sheppard MacKenzie Hurn
Rosa Priddis Dalziell
Strijk Kennedy Nicoski
Lecras Wilson Hams
Cox Masten Swift

SSelwood Naitanui Embley (S) Shuey

It's not my preferred team but it is the one I can see being put out in R1. ASelwood will probably fit in somewhere (cringe).

Ebert doesn't deserve a spot unless skills improve.

Would love to see Darling debut in R1 but Nicoski has strong claims to the HFF atm.

Kerr won't be ready by R1, there's no point rushing him just put him on the LTI and upgrade Hams. Hams is so underrated, one of our most exciting players IMO...not enough love

If no Hams, Neates.

I can see us playing Lynch at FF instead of Wilson..

Baring injury anyone who thinks Dalziell won't play round 1 is dreaming. He looks fitter and his skills were good. With one less interchange rotation we need some endurance players and he can run all day.

A Selwood, Glass, Sheppard
Hurn, MacKenzie, Butler
Rosa, Priddis, Dalziell
Strijk, Kennedy, Scooter
LeCras, Wilson, Neates

Cox, Masten, Shuey

Int: Swift, Embely, Naitanui
Sub: Brown

EMG: Ebert, Schofield, JoJo

Butler Glass Waters
Sheppard Mackenzie Hurn
Rosa Swift Strijk
LeCras Kennedy Darling
Neates Wilson Shuey

Cox Priddis Masten

NN S. Selwood Stevens

Sub: Embley

Notes:

- I went with Waters over Schofield, just. That could leave us short in defence, but Waters can play a few cm's taller than his height would suggest.

- The combo of Sheppard, Hurn and Butler should enable us to use the ball well out of defence.

- I'm not sure if Swift is ready for starting centre, but he's a lot more comfortable in the clinches than in open ground. He looked to be moving nice and freely in the NAB Cup, so I'll back him.

-Strijk adds some explosiveness to an otherwise fairly dour midfield

- I love that HF line.

- Neates in to add some pace to the forwardline, at least until Hams becomes available.

Hurn, Glass, Waters
Butler, McKenzie, Sheppard
Embley, Shuey, Stevens
Strijk, Kennedy, Darling
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

Cox, Masten, Priddis

Int: Rosa/Scooter/Swift/Naitanui
Sub:/schofield/ebert/brown/Nicoski/A Selwood

Darlings tank concerns me, can he run out a whole AFL game?
Still would give him a go.
No Adam Selwood. Kicking is worse than Ebo.
Couldn't find room for jo jo or smith either.

looks like some good competition for spots.:thumbsu:

NAB cup reactionary Round 1 team.

No Kerr, no Hams, who are both best 21. JoJo, Dalziell and Neates were the last three I chose.

Butler Glass J Jones
Sheppard McKenzie Hurn
Shuey Priddis Dalziell
Waters Kennedy Strijk
LeCras Wilson Neates

Cox S. Selwood Masten

Rosa Swift Naitanui S: Embley

EDIT: + here's my team with a taller backline (in Brown, out JoJo)

Butler Mackenzie Glass
Sheppard Brown Hurn
Shuey Priddis Dalziell
Waters Kennedy Strijk
LeCras Wilson Neates

Cox S. Selwood Masten

Rosa Swift Naitanui S: Embley

I think Ebert's career is at the crossroads. If he doesn't improve his disposal he wont play more than 3 games this year and then I could easily see him being trade bait back to Adelaide at the end of this season.

Agree.

It is going to be interesting how many chances players like Ebert, A Selwood and McGinnity get this season.

Worsfold last season said basically if you can't kick these days you won't be playing. With players back from injury such as Masten, Swift, Butler, Glass and hopefully Kerr plus a few others we have many options untill injuries start to mount. I'll take NAB Cup form with a grain of salt as it is very early on and last weekend was our first hit out. But come the real deal if Ebert and co are continually turning the ball over they must be sent back to the WAFL.

An Ebert trade to Port isn't out of the question. Could give us a handy pick to pay for Rich.:D;)

..or trade bait to GWS for a shot at Yarran :thumbsu:

Sadly he fits into the same category as Green, Wooden, Chambers, Atkins, Humm, Hampson, Munro, Lyle, Spangher and Notte ---> Vanilla.

Spangher and Notte are anything but Vanilla! two of the most unorthodox footballers ive ever scene

.........uugh Adkins

This is 100% garbage. His future may well be re-evaluated at the end of the year but there is no way he play less than 3 games if healthy.

For once our depth looks extremely good. At least 8 blokes who would be considered stiff to miss round 1

I worry that Worsfold will go back to his old habits and go into round 1 with a midfield consisting of both Selwoods, Ebert, Rosa, Dalziell, Priddis *cringes*

A big emphasis should be placed on speed and defensive pressure. If we can do that - we should at least be competitive most of the year

Butler - Glass - Waters
Hurn - Brown - Sheppard
Rosa - Priddis - Embley
Nicoski - Kennedy - LeCras
Darling - Wilson - Strijk
Cox - Masten - Shuey

Naitanui - S Selwood - Dalziell
A Selwood

Gaff - Swift - Ebert
