Bourkey, why would Albury be signing Thompson, I know their 2's are struggling for numbers but surely not that much. They should just promote the kids from the 3rds who are going well.

they definitely aren't struggling for numbers and although he'll play in the magoos this weekend, I get the feeling he'll find his way into a forward pocket in the seniors at some point this season.

Aah yes, was waiting for the guys who ridicule my side, and then not have the guts to put their own in. Feel free to lodge your side. I am interested to know who are the quality goalkicking small forwards are in the TDFL at the moment. (or "roving" forwards as you call them) and how your team will go without at least a couple of the "big, tall, selfish forwards".
Why would you put jas bartel at half back when he is 5 foot tall and can be the best roving forward the league can produce at the moment.

Yes he is flying as a small forward - 13 goals from 9 games, 32nd on the League goalkicking ladder. He sits behind Jamie Wolf (21), Ryan Hynes (19), Julian Day (17) and Tim Hallinan (14) as "roving" forwards at his own club, so he's not even Kiewa's best "roving" forward, let alone the League's. Why would I play him at half back ?? Ummm... in case they have a small forward like Mitch Palmer or Hansen, and because he kicks the ball well. Happy for you to put your team up. Still waiting for Kicking Against the Wind's team.

Jason Bartel is by far the best midfielder / forward in the tallangatta league at the moment, his pace and skills are second to none, Albert he is prob that far down the list due to the fact he plays mostly on ball not in the forward line. waisted in the back half for mine. Should be a great game hopefully it is not to slippery.

AP, it seems I may have been a little too in your face with my comment about the lack of smalls in the forward half. I think you are fairly close to the mark with the side you have on paper. My only concern is, if you simply load the forward line up with as many of the gun forwards in the comp as you can, you will not kick more goals. Truth of the matter is, when an onballer gets a bit of space and is looking forward, you will have six blokes looking to lead to the same open patch of real estate. Followed by the same six blokes mouthing off at each other for getting in the way.

It was nothing more than a suggestion. A couple of garden gnomes residing in the forward 50 could be very helpful on the slippery Lavy surface tonight. If you can't find any good small forwards in the comp, find a couple of the leagues second rung onballers with half a clue. I am sure they would do the trick.

how can you say this when thurgoona defeated wahgunyah ? i know not by alot but from all reports thurgoona stop in the last quarter after having a lead of about 7 or 8 goals and i think doonan hutchins gostlew and stead if they are all firing and fit will cause more trouble then robertson pierri and hicks and you forgot one from the lions what about king he is a gun

Watched Chiltern Vs Thurgoona and Thurgoona played 1 quarter of decent footy. Think from memory they may have kicked ten goals to nothing in the third quarter. It didn't help the fact that Chiltern had 17 players on the ground for a fair chunk of the first and third quarters.

Have never seen to many sides win finals games playing one quarter of footy........

Both team's for tomorrow night, along with a full mid-season review of both leagues are both in today's Border Mail mate.

And as good as that side you put together is, unfortunately most of those blokes are injured/unavailable!

Not a bad write up on the season so far bourkey, though i'm not sure about mitta lacking a genuine goal kicker when old man Hodgkin is averaging almost 5 a game.

Nah he doesn't need the help more than happy to do it all himself, but fellow league goal kicker McEvoy will be joining him shortly after the bye.

Go TDFL tonight and well done to the blokes that have put their hand up to play.

Interesting to see the TDFL coach say that he could really find a poor player on Friday night. He wasn't looking very hard.

TDFL guys did a great job to only go down by that much. The Howlong big forward was the difference in the end kicking 6. TDLF lost STEAD early and DONNAN went into the ruck leaving no key foward. So to lose by 3 goals was a great effort. Yeah some players didnt star, but they had a go and did not give in considering most may have thought Hume were going to run away with it....

In they did a good job. The coach is not going to highlight to the group that any one player let the group down, otherwise no one would play....

To many green can critics in th crowd.

A great job by all the players on Friday night. These guys play for the honour of representing their league and taking their football to the next level. It would be good to see evey player put their hand up to play but as we know SOME only play for the money and their is none of that at inter league level.
SPINKS - Coach gave him an apology for not giving him more game time.
CLAYTON= Started on the best forward in country footy.(and was the differance)
JONES- O K game up back and kicked a goal when moved forward.

Spink, Jones, Clayton for a start. And I don't drink so can't be a green can critic.

spinks was not good didnt get alot of time, jones was not the worst had him just out side the best, clayton did not start on bradshaw as was stated he probably should have and if he played so bad why was he named in the vcfla team that was in the paper on tues.
there were a few worse players then them 3 well maybe no spinks.
did not see the guy mcdonald (beechworth) get half close to the ball, cassidy (chiltern) hales (mitta) atkins and demarte (barny) chamberlain (rutherglen) didnt do much.

How did we get so close to them.
Has anyone heard a wisper about changing the name of our league to the Upper North East League as a reflection of our true location.Has merits maybe. What do you think.

2 chances of the TDFL ever changing their name, it only took them 2 months to change their mind on that disabled kid being allowed to play in the Under 14's. Until the league has some fresh blood on it's committee (eg. Greater influence of delegates from the newer clubs into the league) it will never change. It seems like the league is happy to have new clubs come on board but doesn't want to let them have a say on any matters eg. such as moving the g/f. Sarau had an opinion on it, the league heavyweights didn't like it so he copped it from them. If these newer clubs hadn't come across the TDFL would of been down to only 8 teams so its only fair they be given a chance to have a say in how their league is run.

Enough of changing league names, bad/good players last weekend, lets get back to this season. This week. Who are going to be the winners. Who will predict how the this half will play out. Heard a strong rumour that a few rumblings in the DOGGY CAMP with a past player/coach ??????????? Will this disturb the doggy trainnnn.....

Tips for this week:
Mitta to beat Chiltern
Beechworth to beat Dederang
Wahgunyah to belt Tallangatta
Thurgoona to belt Wodonga
Kiewa to belt Yack
Rutherglen to beat Barnawartha (a bit of an upset)

I think that is an excellent idea. Maybe not Upper North East, why not just North Eastern Football League. The NEFL. Tallangatta & District is not really accurate any more. I don't think Wahgunyah & Rutherglen are in the District of Tallangatta

We are merely guests in the League Chucky, we should just be thankful that they let us play against them each week. It is indeed an honour.

Sounds a bit like Feds and Corryong in the Upper Murray. The 2 least progressive clubs in that league, still think they own it and should have all the say. If Bullioh hadn't joined and clubs like Cudgy and Walwa hadn't pushed for 2's they'd still be playing with one umpire and no interchange rule:rolleyes:, heaven forbid if another new club joined their league! New clubs revitalise a league and create more interest and that can only benefit both the Tallangatta and Hume league's with new sides in the last decade. At the end of the day the Hume, Tallangatta and Upper Murray leagues would all struggle without players treking from Albury/Wodonga so geographically it would make sense for the TDFL to be based out of Wodonga.:thumbsu:

Heard on the grapevine that Rutherglen's committee in conjunction with a major sponsor may be after Sarau's head. Developments are in progress for a new pie at Parkers with Sarau as it's key ingredient.
I'm hearing that he is very unapproachable to his lads, a little intense for country football and almost certainly won't receive a key to the city of Rutherglen anytime soon.
