I would really hate to use pick 8, I have read the fors and againsts here, but it is something I feel that it should be kept. I have no real reason other than i would rather risk it in the draft.

I say the least we do in this years trade period, the better. Look what happened in 2009.
Our drafting over the past few years has been very good and that is why pick 8 MUST be untouchable - unless there is an exchange of first round draft picks (ie 8 for 10).

We should focus on three things:-
1.
We need TALLS, so we should either target one/two from clubs via our 2nd/3rd rounders and/or get them in the draft or PSD

2. Get the best deal possible for M.Clark (eg. PICK 16 & Player - Z.Clarke/Suban/Ibbotson/Mayne)

3. Draft the best kids possible - those that can use the footy, are hard at it and run the lines well.

Interesting couple of posts over on the Adelaide board below. Don't suppose anyone caught the interview?

Listening to SEN this morning they were speaking to Brisbane Lions Football Manager Dean Warren he talked about the possability of a multi club trade to get Kurt to Brisbane Lions Mitch Clarke to West Coast & Brad Ebert & picks to Adealaide.
He made it very clear in early discussions with the Crows Kurt is a required player, he said if a deal is to be done with West Coast for Ebert it would have to be really sweetened for Adelaide to agree.

I too listened to the interview however Dean Warren who is the Football Manager of the Lions did not say that a play for Tippett would involve WC or Ebert, this was SEN speculation

What Warren did say

- The Lions are definitely interested in Kurt
- The AFC have maintained that Kurt is a required contracted player
- The Lions will make a formal approach during trade week
- The Lions do understand that it would need to be a significant trade offering to change Adelaide's position on Kurt

Now please don't all go charging over there to tell them that Redden's not on the table. We all know how irritating that is, don't we? ;)

I read that earlier. I thought that it may have been picked up on our board. Wonder if it is on SEN's website ?

That gives the rumours a bit more credibility & not just journo gossip. I still find it hard to believe that Tippett will come to us.

Redden is totally not on the table though.

Is it wrong that I am thinking about Polec's value though?

Yep! Cannot possibly trade a Pick 5 after one year. It will give the "Crazy Vossy" howlers more ammo. We've already traded a top 10 pick recently.

Polec could be anything.

Why doesn't Carlton cop criticism after throwing away top picks on McLean & Lucas ???

I dont think it's wrong. Polec could be gun. Could be a dud too. Hard to know off so little. If we could keep that Bartlett kid fit, I would consider Polecs worth. Geez you'd be devoed if he turned out to be a weapon though haha

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Thank you whatboutbob for leading me to such an amusing thread :thumbsu:
One particular favourite poster of mine was talking about how if the Tippett trade was going to occur, the trade would be either for:
1. Gold Coast's pick 4, Daniel Gorringe and Sam Day; or
2. Our pick 8, Jack Redden and Jared Polec

I had my fair share of lols, then saw the same poster say:

"I doubt Redden will be traded........."

And I got my hopes up that he had been treated for his insanity, before I continued reading the sentence which went on:

"so probably Polec+pick 8+pick 14(from Freo) for Kurt."

I don't mind if the club pays overs for Tippet, including trading pick 8. Polec signed an extension to his contract while the club knew of Clark's intentions to leave so that to me says there is no way they would look at getting rid of him. If we don't get someone like Tippet, by the time our midfield is entering it's prime we will still be seeing if the forwards we have drafted are up to it. If Tippet really wants to come to Qld then I think we are still a good chance next year. GC's cap shrinks a little bit every year doesn't it? and they will have to offer new contracts to all the players they drafted.

That looks a pretty good deal for them...

I wonder if people who put together these trade suggestions actually give any consideration to whether the opposition would consider themselves as benefitting from the trade. Or is it a case of hoping their club will quickly sneak the trade through without anyone noticing.

I might be in the vast minority here but I would trade pick 8 and 16 for Tippett if Clark goes to Freo and we get that pick, or 8 and our Rischatelli compo if that's what it took. Tippett would be a great get for the club.

Ditto. Tippett is a guy people will come to see and we would get so much value out of him. Even in his dud seasons, he is still likely to kick a decent amount of goals. And also the added bonus of not having to play a second bonifide ruckman with no versatility. If there was a player like Tippett in the draft, you would take him in a second at pick 8. It doesn't matter that he's 23.

Also just on Kurt, does anyone know if he's come out in twitter or whatever in the last few days to say " I have no plans on going anywhere" or something of that ilk. Cos to me, if a player is being speculated about this much and is still quiet, they're not 100% sure on staying. Thoughts?

If we hadn't lost Hendo and pick 11 then you would probably find a lot more people open to trading those picks. I think 8 and 16 is pretty unlikely but 8 and a compensation pick is fair.

Not a snowflakes chancs in hell of Clark going to the Eagles, I mean everywhere Clark plays, they already have specialist players who are more than good enough. Sure Clark is flexible, but West Coast have too many talls if anything. Wouldnt be surprised, but would be disappointed, if you end up with pick 16 and the freo compo pick, whatever it is.

I still dont understand why people are so happy to see our club give away pick 8 for tippet!!! Tippet & Clark are equal in trade value so I would suspect the lions would focus on trying to get him through the clark trade, and not by trading out our 1st pick.

I could handle a complicated 3 way deal that sees the lions & crows swap 1st picks as part of the deal, but not to lose both clark & a top 10 pick in trade week.

The eagles are key with young talent like Lycett that the crows would be all over...get the crows to talk Lycett into announcing he his "homesick" and the deal is well over halfway done...and no talk of pick 8 will even eventuate!

If voss was in charge of the trade pick 8 would go in a flash... I just think that Kerr aint going to let it happen!

pretty simple mate...and tall from either club could be use as part of the deal.

In that interview he did a month or two ago, he said quite clearly that he intends to honor his contract and play out next year. This is when all that speculation of his clause was just surfacing.

Adelaide have also said quite clearly that they deem him a required player. This just a few days ago.

Just cannot see him traded this year. The Lions would have to give away so much to get him. Maybe for the 2013 season a more realistic play will be made for him?

I believe it is a difference in opinion about Clark and Tippett's respective trade value.

seems that way...but I dont know why...both have showed huge potential in years past, but only clark made the AA shortlist. Tippet couldnt even mark a ball this year and was dropping sodas...both guys need alot of work to get back heading towards elite players

I think your right Sunny. I also can't see the Crows losing Gunston & Tippett in the same season, I think if anything is to happen it will be on delay for a year.

I get nervous when I hear of the Lions interest in trading perhaps I am still spooked by 2009 trade week. Yes, I realise we have different people at the helm............. but....... Unfortunately reading this thread doesn't ease my fears, with suggestions of throwing away 1st rounders like confetti.

The difference between Clark & Tippett should be minimal. One is a better forward and the other is a better ruck, there should be no 1st round sweetners required by either party if anything was to happen.

I still think Clark will go to Fremantle but welcome the Eagles competition in order to assist us in gaining fair trade value.

The Lions & trading still sends shivers down my spine. :(

I would be happy enough with this.

Clark trade

Clark & pick 34 >> Freo
Pick 16 & Ibottson >> Bris

Tippett trade

Tippett & 35 >> Bris
Pick 8 & pick 27 >> Bris

Lions lose pick 8,27,34 & Clark

Bris gain pick 16,35, Tippett, Ibbotson

But lions still have draft picks 16,30,35

OR
instead of Freo trade.
WCE trade

Lycett and pick 23 >>Bris
Pick 30 and Clark >> WCE

Note. I see WCE posters happliy talking about the possibility of trading Lycett to adeliade/port adel. Yet when a clark and Lycett swap they just go "nup, no way". Its Bizzare :S
