Heard Peterson is playing. Heard Smithwick is playing (he's ex Box Hill but has played at OC before) Heard Laidlaw ex Sydney is playing. Top 10 players will be as good as any, bottom 4-6 and depth may be an issue. Will push for top 4 spot but a bit below the DLS and Xavs IMO.

Lots of exciting new recruits at McKinnon, watch this space. OC will be very good in A also, 2 teams from B to make the finals in A this year.

Heard you picked up a handy forward from your SFL co-tenants. Hopefully building from within and no longer targeting middle aged ex AFL players. Any names or at least some hints GOI?

8 teams, 8 comps, 2 grounds, 1 day- melbourne metros best of the best!

Should be a cracker of a day! What are everyones thoughts and feedback on it?

The club must have recapitalised (post GFC) and is now in a position for another expensive tilt at things in A-Grade.

Fergus Watts to Uni Blues as assistant coach. Is this in a playing capacity? If so, and providing he avoids injury, it is a huge get for the blues.

Cheers for the updates lads, good to see plenty of activity in the New Year.

Whilst a little off topic, what's the quality of the comp like compared to other ammo comps around Vic? Would be keen to hear from anyone that's played A Grade league ammo footy in WA coz that's where I've been playing the last 10 years and I'll be moving to Vic in Feb and need to find a new club.

Should Sholly and the vafa boys try and orginise a flood relief game against the efl like the bushfire game of a couple of yrs ago, which was a cracka

Admirable idea, but there's isnt quite the immediate connection the VAFA and EFL had with the YVMDFL and those who were affected by the fires. I doubt you would get the same level of interest or support

Scribe,

Good to see you breaking your self imposed exile on here so regulalry!

Can't agree with you though.

If they were to organsie a "rep" game for the flood cause, I think you would find it well supported.

I am not so sure there is a strong "immediate connection" between the VAFA and the YVMDFL?
The VAFA have regularly played rep games against QLD for the past few year( both herre and in QLD), so one could equally argue there is a connection there.

Have to agree with Brian on this one Scribe. Would be a good idea.
Briza, Ron, Sausage and Bob Down would all rock up in support, so there is at least 1 person coming already!

RoFL!

To be serious. I reckon a much better outcome would be for all the state leagues to support the proposed AFL effort.

Blind Freddy can see that Brian isn't Sausage or Ron if you take the time to read their posts, they have completely different writing styles(yes, I'm that bored that I spent the last 30 mins reading them!).
As far as Scribes post goes, it was certainly one of his less accurate ones, when was the last time the VAFA played against some hick mountain league???

Dear Ron / GOI,

To clarify - the point I was making was the VAFA and EFL got together to support those who were most seriously affected by the fires which raged through territory which included Kinglake,Yarra Glen, Healesville, Marysville, all of which are YVMDFL league clubs. Nowhere did I refer to any match ever being played by the VAFA against the YVMDFL. I thought that was patently clear from the post.

Several EFL and VAFA clubs are located in/around the fire affected areas, and therefore, as a shocking event which would leave a lasting impression, Black Saturday on the fringe of the Melbourne metro area seemed a lot closer geographically and emotionally to those of us who support the VAFA and EFL than the Qld floods are.

Black Saturday banded Victoria together as no other tragedy has in the past, and it was great for suburban footy to have this showcase in February as a fundraiser to help rebuild communities only a few kilometres away from our respective heartlands.

Frankly, if we were to play another charity match, why shouldn't the money raised be used to help those suffering the Victorian floods in the western region just as much as the QLD floods? I daresay our charity may not extend into the western region of Victoria simply because it has yet to receive the same level of saturation coverage as the destruction of Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, etc.

I hope this helps you understand things better. :)

Scribe,

There was never any issue with my understanding what you were saying, I just don't agree. You said that there was an "immediate connection" with the vafa and YVMFL(and EFL), which i dispute. There is a stronger connection with the EFL who are much closer to a number of our clubs(which you explained in some detail above?) but it is spurious to suggest there is immediate connection to the YVMFL.
Very, very few clubs would have the geographic connection(parade? Aquinas? a few others), so it is a very small minority. Sure, we alll have some emotional connnection because it was closer to home than the Qld floods, which you outlined . Point taken.
It was goi who made the comment about no game being played against the YVMFL and one suggests it was a rhetorical question. He didn't say anywhere that you said it but rather I suspect was pointing out the lack of "immediate connection" with the YVMFL that we may have with the Queenslanders.

We sent a team to QLD last year and they visited the year before , so one could argue an immediate connection.
Your idea about helping the local Victorians in need has merit and probably worth considering.I am sure there are a number of vafa players with connections to Horsham, echuca etc.
By that logic though, should all fundraising efforts in pubs, stores, officeworks etc that I have seen here in Melbourne, go the the local problem and not the qld floods?
Interestingly, several on here have supported the idea thus far of a flood relief game.
It is good to have you back posting regularly

At the end of the day we are arguing about something terrible thats happend and which is worse/effects us more thats pretty sad imo. I personally lost friends and nearly my house 2 yrs ago and i thank ppl for all around aus who chipped in to help re build town and more imporantly lifes.

This was just a suggestion to help ppl who are in a terrible situation whether it be the qld floods or the vic floods. Sport is a great way to help ppl for 1 gives them something to look forward to and take there minds of things and raises money for ppl who really need it.

Sorry to get like this i will make my way back to the lower grade forum and wont bother you guys again if its to be like this, as i say just a suggestion to help ppl who need it.

I personally dont think the QLD floods come anywhere near the tragedy that we all experienced on that terrible, terrible summers day two years ago. Its nice that the nation is rallying behind the QLD people but a bit of house insurance and they will all be fine. If they dont have insurance well they are just plain stupid.
173 people died on Black Saturday, lets not let this forum sink to new depths.

And whilst Im at it, it's becoming very irritating that some spuds on here think I have nothing better to do with my time than invent a truckload of usernames and sit here baiting people and posting on this and any other boards. They also seem to think its humerous that they know who I am but I dont know who they are, all that that tells me is that they are piss weak individuals hiding behind usernames and taking potshots at other people. At least if I have a crack at someone they know where to find me.

I run a very large business, have a family and use this website as an outlet for a bit of fun, nothing more, so if something is not written by BrianSpeaking or Bob Down then it isn't me, so I would appreciate that the bullsh it linking me with any controversial usernames or posts is left alone.
End of rant!!!
Have a good one.

Members,

don't take it so seriously.

I wouldn't call it arguing but rather just a bit of harmless banter.

Hey Spanking, Glad you have a lot of sympathy for those who have been unfortunate to be able to only build near a "flood plain," and by definition can't get home insurance. Those that have lost everything are hardly stupid just life's battlers. Perhaps you (who run such a very, very, very, large business) could lend them a $. Just kick them when they are down ... it's the spanking way!

:mad::(:eek:

Spud Number one bears his head. Anyone who builds near a flood plain is an imbecile, just like you. Hows the job at Centrelink or have you thrown that in to dig holes?
