Drew Morphett brings nothing to the table. He seems like a nice guy, but his commentary is weird and boring. It always has been (footy and cricket). He should have been pushed out the door decades ago.

I know Glenn Mitchell had some personal issues but compared to the ball by ball comms they have now, he was a lot better.
Glenn Mitchell was one of the best going around. Knew his stuff & painted an accurate picture of what was happening. Plus, his rapport with KO'K was a highlight of the coverage. None of the other guys seem to be able to bounce off him like Mitchell did. Shame he is no longer there.

I can't put into words how much I despise Michael Slater's commentary. Does he ever shut up? No real knowledge, awful delivery and just a grating annoying persona. Well, I guess I did put into words how much I hate him.
Lawson is an arrogant prick. sometimes it's OK, sometimes it's not. Depends what he's talking about.
Drew Morphett is finished.
For such a good captain, Mark Taylor has surprisingly little of interest to add.
Bill Lawry is just an embarrassment. ian Chappell is very good. Not afraid to buck the trend and not be a Cricket Australia puppet.
The problem with Channel 9 is that they are all cheerleaders (with the exception of Chappell, and Tony Greig - RIP) for Australia. Constantly going on about how badly the opposition fields etc, but never criticises anything about the home team.
The real surprise for me has been Andrew Symonds on Fox Sports. Genuinely knowledgeable, quite witty and very, very relaxed. Tom Moody and Brendon Julian are awful. Greg blewett not bad. Mark Waugh's incessant man love and constant harping on about Moises Henriques is horrible grating and just plain ridiculous now.

Oh Roy is good, isn't he

Never thought he'd be such a sharp cricket brain and be articulate at the same time. Calls it as he sees it, too. Feels like I'm listening to Mikey Holding lite

Michael Holding lite is a perfect way to describe it.
Roy is a surprise packet. Says it in a way that relates to 'us' but doesn't dumb it down.

andrew symonds, when he shows up, has been a real surprise packet in the commentary box, tom moody started out ok but is now turning in to an Michael Slater never shutting up,

with all respect with Tony Greig, he was a half Witt in the commentary box, not nearly as bad as slater and healy, but always trying to be the cool guy and making the big calls but usually ending up wring

Have mentioned it in another thread but Lawson going on about NSW grade cricket gets pretty boring.

Jim Maxwell seemed to struggle identifying some of the Sri Lankan players at times.

Overall, it is a great commentary. I look forward each year to the international guests and they always seem to have a good rapport with the regulars.

yes, henry goes on about his cricket club a bit. just like national news broadcasts goes into intricate detail of events in nsw.

i enjoy harsha bogle. love the name bogle

Ok, Dan Lonergan is appalling as a ball-by-ball commentator. The amount of times he doesn't mention the results of the ball is astounding...

I noticed that driving home today as well....

"Hughes flicks it out to deep mid wicket.........good shot there......score is now 2/180..." you're forced to think what was the score before that ball to work out how many runs it was.

Could somebody tell Mr Whateley that the blokes name is pronounced MEN-DIS, not MEN-DEZ. I felt like it was South Melbourne vs Northern Spirit in the old NSL and South were trying to stop Chi Chi Mendez who was the midfield dynamo for the Spirit.

welcome to the cricket board for 2012/13 tugga...not a bad appraisal there, channel 9 are abyssssssmal

Some of the commentators' idiosyncrasies are interesting.

For instance, Jim Maxwell continually tells us that (as an example) the batsman hits the ball through the covers, it's going towards the boundary, so and so chases it.

Well, of course the ball is going towards the boundary. As the boundary encircles the entire ground, by definition it has to.

If this is your main criticism of the coverage then things aren't to bad

dont think maxwell, o'keefe et al are wasting their time on the ODIs and why would you...seriously this format is just dieing in front of everyones eyes and then makes a comeback when a tournament or something is on.

mere exhibition games at present

It's no more dead than it was ten years ago.
