Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

went to training this morning-monday. some observations, another two and half hour session, in extremely hot conditions . most of the training was dedicated to mini trial games' the squad divided into 4 teams and played in a round robin format over 2 ovals. . couple of standouts on the oval i was watching. brad harvey rookie listed player was exceptional playing in the backline . billy longer also trained well.polec looked very sharp throughout the session, but was beaten when matched up against harvey. Jessie obrien was used as a linkman through the forward line with some success. rookie listed players wrigley ,sam michael and crisp once again did some really nice things.. a nasty incident , involving karnezis running full tilt into the boundry fence had him leaving the fied to be patched up. he returned on to the park but did not last the session. a bruised thigh and maybe ribs?. mckeever came off late in the session with another foot injury not sure if it was serious.players in the rehab section included rich, bartlett docherty zorko and drummond. special mention ryan lester looks to be back to last years early form . most of our experienced players looked sharp and therefore i have not singled out any of them individualy.

Can't help but get excited at that report. So much goodness. Thanks tt.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

Thanks TT.

Good to see Harvey is going well. He is an interesting prospect with absolute elite pace and good strength to boot. Solid enough skills as well. Probably more likely to play as a defensive stopper to begin with at AFL level but if you had him, Golby and Hanley at the back they could give small forwards nightmares.

Shame Zorko continues to be in the rehab group. That would be the better part of a month in there.

We seem to have a lot of defensive smalls atm who was playing in the small / medium forward roles?

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

i have had a bit of interest in brad harvey, he seems to have followed the same path as , . rockliff, both overlooked in the main draft but picked up in the rookie draft...harvey tested well in a few of the sections at the draft camp especially speed and vertical jumps. having not seen a lot of him through the reserves, i was keen to watch him through pre season. every week he seems to improve but today he was almost unbeatable. On a different note i heard that there will be a full intra club match on wednesday week at 8.30am

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

..Hopefully Patty K is o.k, and not a long lasting injury..

Have done something very similiar when I was a kid, and it hurts!

it didn,t look really serious so fingers crossed, but he did hit the fence that hard that the metal fence was slightly buckled.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

Thanks tt....yes, fingers crossed here as well....if he hit it that hard he'd have to be a bit sore just the same..

That was you?!?! :mad::p

Unfortunately still gainfully employed :p

not sure if this will be his role when the real season starts, he was servicable but not outstanding.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

Have to say, from what I have seen and read, it seems the players are extremely happy and enjoying the environment they are in. Without knowing the ins and outs this why I reckon...

1. You get the feeling the results on field are just around the corner and the club is getting ready to regularly play finals.
2. A good lot of young kids all around the same age who seem to enjoy each others company.
3. Voss re- signing (not saying I am overjoyed but am happy to see if he's learnt anything). Maybe he is more relaxed now and although the pressure is still there to win, I think if they fail to deliver, he will be ready to leave then anyway.
4. The majority of senior players are fit and ready to go.
5. The dead wood is gone- might be nice blokes, but we delisted the right people who weren't going to take this club to the finals.
6. Ben Hudson- apparently everyone loves him and brings plenty of humour to the table.

Actually looking forward to the season starting, lets just hope the results show on the scoreboard.

All valid points, LRL44. The most pertinent of which is the whole 'looking forward to the season starting' thing. We can postulate and predict all we want, but after all of the list and coaching changes and all of the coverage that we have been privy to over the last 4 months all I want is for the season to start so that we can see if it's working.

A fit list and a core group of kids who have been playing together for a while moving into the 21 to 28 age-group are predictors of progress, but the final truth rests with the new season.

NAB cup starts next Friday! I can't believe that I'm this excited about the start of the NAB cup. The Lions don't even play the first week. I feel like a crackhead without a TV to hock.

Nowhere near that raunchy, just a couple of audio grabs from Mrs Slocombe talking about her 'cat'.

Geeze, you weren't kidding tt. Video.

Is that Boonji who ended up over the fence?

Love Longer getting in among the 'back patters' at the end there. Not lacking in confidence, is he?

He's a tough boy, he'll bounce back. I bet he's still a bit sore today, though.
