2012 Hidden gems

Jed Lamb, Luke Parker, Jordan Lockyer

All 3 will have a big impact at senior level this year, especially Parker who already has 10+ games under his belt.

Was heartbroken when we passed on Jordan, will be good to see how he goes in 2012.

From the Blues: Andrew Collins will get confidence and force his way into our 22. Luke Mitchell should get games and hopefully have a Darling like impact (Much bigger than Jack though).

Lol, enjoy his 5 possession games and 30 second postulations between marking and kicking

Round 7 2011 v Adelaide
Addam Maric: 31 Disposals 8 Marks 10 Inside 50's 2 Goals Contributed
Round 17 2011 v Port Adelaide
Addam Maric: 17 Disposals 3 Goals 5 Inside 50's, 4 Goal's Contributed.

I know he isn't the best player going around, but if we can get him churning out results like this on a regular basis, then I'll be happy.

For Carlton the two obvious ones that have played less than 20 games are Lucas and Tuohy.
From what I've seen, I'm expecting both to more than just solidify their spots in our side this year. They'll add plenty.

Next in line are players that will need opportunity to arise and a lot of form on their side to make inroads.
Luke Mitchell and Sam Rowe may have to battle it out for the FF post and Ed Curnow will be wanting to replicate the start he had last year.

Will not be needed this year, but Joshua Bootsma has some great qualities about him that are really shining through.
Put him down for next year.

Matt Dea: Has had injuries, but is a great size, nice skills and very highly rated internally by the coaching staff. Could play a significant role at half back in 2012.

The rookie I want to see is Gibson Turner. Very much the Indigenous stereotype of lightning quick, evasive, skillful and with that bit of x-factor. Haven't had much luck with indigenous boys recently but he looks good on youtube :p

Sam Wright is going to sit up and make people take notice this year.

Ben Cunnington is going to kill it too (finally fit), but I don't know if you can call a top 5 pick a hidden gem.

Don't think either of these should count tbh. Wright has already shown he has bucketloads of talent and has already impacted on games, whilst as you said Cunnington is a top 5 pick whose been struck down by injuries.

Where's Aaron Black at out of interest? I remember many Freo fans were a bit disappointed (including me at the time) we picked up some skinny flanker called Fyfe instead of Black.

Aaron Young

I was actually going to mention Black. He is taking part in full training as he has been all preseason which is just what he needs after missing alot of preparation time since drafted. He developed bad OP in his first year and also had a bit of floating bone in the region that required surgery late 2010. After no real preseason last year he kicked 31 goals in the VFL from limited games and debuted in rd 24 against the Tigers playing half a game and showing plenty. I reckon he'll play 12+ games this year and continue his development before really hitting his straps in 2013.

The non North bloke I reckon will go BANG is Koby Stevens. As hoping we'd make a play for him at the trade table. Will be a beast.

Hedging my bets :D I'd say Luke Russell, Jeremy Taylor and Jack Hutchins...

Then hopefully Piers Flanagan (if he can stay fit), Tom Nicholls, Liam Patrick, Charlie Dixon, Hayden Jolly and Jacob Gillbee.

Although not "hidden gems" I expect Dave Swallow, Harley Bennell, Dan Gorringe and Mav Weller to step up another level and really make the football world take notice.

Then there's our Queensland zone selections Alex Sexton and Jackson Allen (elite kick already) who if they get games should really impress.

Their not hidden but i think they'll really blossom this year Luenberger and Sam Reid.
Unlikely anyone at the Hawks, think we've finally got some good depth.
Hoping Bruest takes another big step.

Not really hidden gems there. Rohan Kerr will have a lot of competition for spots, but he could be our hidden gem. Has the motor to match his skill and footy smarts after he placed tenth and behind Simpson in our time trial. It would be interesting to see him take the spot of one of his landlords in Armfield and Ellard. Living with these two dedicated trainers has clearly rubbed off on Kerry. Lost eight kgs last pre-season, only to bust his gut again and get even fitter.

Interesting thread.

For Melbourne, Jeremy Howe. With his first year out of the way, and a complete (and impressive by all reports) pre-season, is ripe to take the next step.
