I think the club set an ambitious target of 40,000, in line with the rising membership numbers of other clubs. Last years total was just over 36,000.

Didnt realise you had so many last year, thats great, you should hit 40 then especially now on top of the new sponsorship deal. Things looking up for Port. :thumbsu:

Gee thats a worry I didn't realise that things were so bad at SYD & BRI.

The issue wasn't the number of members, it was the number that attended the games given AAMI's financial model.

Correct me if I am wrong, SAers. But I believe AAMI has 3 membership categories. Port, Crows and Both and I believe both clubs claim the both category numbers. While I am sure both clubs profit equally from the 3rd category, I believe it is still heavily in favour of Crows supporters which accounts for the discrepancy between membership and attendance levels.

Brisbane & Sydney have always had historically low membership figures.

Brisbane has only once (2004) been over the 30k mark, Sydney 4 times.

The figures are low compared to other AFL clubs, but high compared to NRL clubs.

2011 membership;
Brisbane 20,792
Sydney 27,106

NRL 2011 comparison;
Club with highest number of members
Rabbitohs 20,633

Probably most popular club
Broncos 14,929

I agree with what you say but like anywhere Brisbane likes a winner. The Lions have been fairly average for a long time now and when you have the Reds and the Roar winning last year (both for the first time in donkeys years) and the Broncos contending as always it was always going to be tough.

Throw in the Suns coming in and a stagnant economy and the membership department of the Lions have a tough task.

A worry for the club and the AFL.

I wouldn't expect miracles for the Swans, their standard general 11 game admission membership category is sold out and that leaves just the vastly overpriced categories.

Wouldn't have thought the AFL would be too stressed. As long as enough people keep watching NSW and Qld games on TV, the clubs are serving their purpose. It's been 25 years since I moved to Melbourne from Sydney but all my family is still in and around Sydney, and club membership (in any code) is still just not an automatic step, no matter how keen you are to support, watch on TV, see games live or buy merchandise.

I know it's been asked before but what is the go with Fremantle not releasing its figures.

Meh, we never do, maybe because we don't need to. What I find more surprising is West Coast releasing their figures, usually they're in the same boat as us.

I'd like to know though but it's a minor annoyance, probably be around 45k again.

First year I remember the Crows releasing figures too.
