I'm "reasonably" new to NFL, nowhere near as knowledgeable as you guys.... who do you think can still win it?

I've backed all of the 49ers, Ravens, Falcons and Texans to win the Super Bowl every week since pre season, seems to be going ok, although Baltimore have a LOT of injuries now... Still took a little bit at $21 because I think that will come back in.

Still alive???

Giants, Bears, Packers, Pats, Broncos, Steelers, and my 4???? Or am I jumping the gun putting the line through so many teams?

2012 - Giants win from 4th in the NFC
2011 - Packers win from 6th in the NFC
2010 - Jets have a good run just falling short of Superbowl from 5th in the AFC
2009 - Ravens and Eagles make both Conference champion games from 6th, Cardinals up in Superbowl in dieing minute having finished 4th in the NFC
2008 - Giants win from 5th in NFC

The moral of this - Don't stay on just the 4 teams, it comes down to who is built to win playoffs and it doesn't need to be those that are doing great right now.

In the AFC, Texans and Broncos are my favourites right now, but don't say no to Baltimore, Pittsburgh or New England just yet.
In the NFC, Falcons, 49ers, Giants, Packers and Bears are all built to playoff football.

Then there's a chance of other teams hitting form, just slipping into a wildcard spot and going on a role, Dallas has the talent, Philly has the talent (but not the coaches), Cincy has the coaches and a young team. Saints could get on a roll and take all before them. It's just too wide open right now, such is the nature of the NFL.

Also form now doesn't equate for a lot, both the Giants and Packers got hot in December and stormed into and through the playoffs to win the Super Bowl.

Just from the NFC though Giants, Packers, Bears, 49ers would be the best bets to make a Super Bowl. The Falcons haven't performed in playoffs the last two seasons but they have changed their coaching staff so they might actually perform this time, depends on which Matt Ryan shows up though.

Ugh, not looking forward to either TNF or MNF

Thursday night football is a terrible match up!! Fancy having these 2 spud outfits going prime time across the nation on a Thursday night.

Glad i am working Friday as i will miss nothing.

With the trade deadline nearing, there are some big trade rumors doing the rounds.

Namely....

Steven Jackson
DeAngelo Williams
LaGarette Blount
Dwayne Bowe
Steve Smith (Panthers)

Bowe would be the only one you think that would be commanding attention from other teams and the rest are either over the hill and on the decline or just no good at all TBH.

All could provide massive short term upside for some playoff teams IMO.

Especially SJax... -> Greenbay

Yeah maybe and i can see the logic behind this opinion but GB are a pass happy team and will always put the ball in Rodgers hand for the win not a RB and they have not had a decent one for close to 5 years and this is the way they are. Some possies are just not meant to succeed in certain franchises while future HOF QB's are there!!

GB wouldn't experiment on a banged up S Jax IMO and the workload would not be there to justify the salary he would command. This is Rodgers team and that's that!

This. But also at the moment it doesn't really matter who our running back is because our O-Line has been pathetic in run blocking so no matter who we put back there wouldn't be rushing for many yards, they have enough trouble keeping Rodgers off the ground.

Green Bay passing game has looked no where near as good as last year. Partially because that's what's happening with every team, partially because Rodgers came down (As you would expect from such heights), partially because they're so damn predictable that they need 2-3 of their passing weapons firing to be half effective.

It's like the Giants this year... 95% of the time, teams know the running game isn't a threat to win games. But the constant attention that must be paid gives Eli a lot more leeway with adjustments.

I think a lot has to do with our O-line and play calling, last year we had a lot of big plays and this year teams are defending against that and we aren't taking what the opposition is giving us and instead try to force something down the field that just isn't going to work. The O-line is going to get Rodgers killed if they keep on going the way they are which doesn't help as we seem to have a defensive linesman in our backfield on every second snap.

Also agree that Rodgers is having a 'down' year and that isn't helping this offense at all.

A lot of recently pass-heavy teams are getting back to the run....Patriots, Steelers, Broncos (Manning ie, like what he wanted tail-end of his Colts career), and Packers know it too, and are keen on it. Giants are actually getting back to the run more when their lead back is healthy. Saints and Eagles are about the only teams who are still overdoing the passing, and both struggling....especially Saints. Cowboys struggling without a marquee RB (Murray injured). Etc around the league.

Especially annoying for Philly fans, considering they have one of the better RBs in the league (Which Pats/Broncs/GB can't attest to)

I still fail to see how this team can be overdoing the passing with a back like McCoy, just terrible play calling. If he ever wants out I think we could find room at the Packers for him :thumbsu:

Saints are actually an example of idiotic GM'ing/HC'ing.

They have 50 million RBs in their 53, but are passing the ball consistently like 75% of snaps, because Brees is a stat-whore, and they're struggling. Rodgers having a down year too. And in both cases it's clear that defenses can focus so much on defending the pass and rushing the passer, making those teams more one-dimensional. For all the 'passing-league' talk, smart teams know they need to still run 40-50% of the time to keep the defenses honest.

Especially highlights to me how in these softer receiving/passing rules, and being one-dimensional, these elite modern QBs can't hold a torch to Dan Marino...Dolphins entirely one-dimensional in an era that was a bit harder in terms of passing/receiving rules.

That's where the Packers were going wrong early in the season and throwing the ball way too much so defenses were just pinning their ears back and flying after Rodgers. But then you look at the Rams and Texans games while I think Green only had 22 carries it was enough to keep the defense honest and allowed Rodgers to go ballistic.

Receiver Demaryius Thomas tells Silver that Manning recently installed a play during practice that included a fade-out route cornerback Champ Bailey described as “unstoppable.” Manning installed another play that the Saints couldn’t handle — during last night’s game.
