Ziebell is also a lock for me, he is at a risky price but if he doesn't get injured he'll get massive scores, and my other 5 players are proven stars at Supercoach. Get on Ziebell at his starting price,u might think his expensive now, but at seasons end he'll be worth 550k +

My midfield is so far:
Ablett (Captain)
Watson
Swan
Selwood
Ziebell

There's a few missed games in this group.

Could be wrong, but I thought Mora and Caddy had interrupted preseasons. Think Morabito may not even be available round 1.
Coniglio seems ready for AFL level, but I won't spend that much money on a rookie myself. Not sure about Wingard, but you'd think he'd walk in to the Port team going on last years form.

I seem to recall something similar regarding Morabito. I'd planned to be all over him and cooled quickly, but I can't remember why.

This year will mark the return to the standard GAJ/5 rookie starting midfield, as it is just too hard to leave him out considering how much his value will skyrocket during the season.

Seriously tempted and will be having a look in preseason to see if his glorious form continues. Problem is that I've already got Ablett, Murphy, Priddis and Selwood pencilled in as my prem 4 mids and pretty set on them. Priddis to Thompson is a very strong consideration though and preseason will probably sway me one way or the other.

Will be my 6th yr running starting with Dal Santo. Even when he's been a bit out of form he's never caused any grief scoring. Have paid huge a cpl of yrs. Wouldnt be surprised if he's the highest aggregate point scorer over that time frame or more...certainly possible. Loyalty even in this stupid game...bizzarre.
Will also be paying for Ablett and Elwood like many others.

Are people concerned over the price of Pendlebury/Ablett/Swan??

If I start with Murphy/Selwood/Montagna (the 6 I've mentioned I'm predicting to be top 8 scorers-Dal Santo and maybe Cotchin in there as well-but I don't think there will be a massive difference in the 4-8 scorers.) I save 260k...the difference between a midpricer (200-300k) to another premium (500k+ in forwards/defence)

I guess you weigh up whether Conca/Pendlebury will score better then Suckling/Selwood (just an eg, not sure it all works out).

FWIW, I want to start with Pendlebury/Ablett/Swan because I am very confident they will average 120+, but if I have the other 3, I can have 15 premiums on field...

good points but the captain options of the top 3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>9999999 the other 3

Just put one of them in, especially Ablett, as captain last year he won me 3 or 4 games while the other guys in my leagues were dicking about deciding or not to get him. Put him in and watch his price go up, thus ensuring others can't get him.

I'd love to have Pendles and Swan but you have to be very wary of the bye and having 2 premiums from the same club in the same quadrant.

I'm not sold on Ablett increasing his average this season. SC scores are essentially a scaled ranking of how good a player was compared to everyone else on the field. There are only 3300 points to go around and his teammates were hardly helping themselves to the points leaving so much more for Gary after the scores are normalised. With improvement of Suns players across the board (less clangers, more effective disposals, etc) expect normalisation to favour Ablett less and less.

You've also got to take into account GC were being flogged most weeks so the opposition teams were taking alot of the 3300 points. You'd expect as a team they would improve and therefore Abletts scores may also.

Remember he didn't really have a preseason last year, plus Ablett might get a bit less attention this year. Eg how north just let him run riot but tagged everyone else. Which might not do GC any favours but will ensure Ablett gets huge scores. It's all up in the air, but remember gold coast play GWS 2x. Melbourne and Port. So that's 4 games of close to 200 points and he only plays Cats, Hawks and Pies, once.

That really makes no difference with the bye weeks. It's impossible not to have at least 1 week where you don't have 2+ players missing from the same position anyway. Having Swan + Pendles is no different to having say Selwood + Barlow.

didnt seem to matter to much when he got 254 against sydney a couple of years ago and all his other ridiculously high scores well aware completely different teams but still doesnt change the fact the ablett is the epitome of a s/c player

Avoiding Pendles & Swan to start with. Will definitely end up with one or both but I'm trying to avoid the top priced player just because you know you can get him cheaper at some stage. No way Pendles will hold $700k+ all year.

My mids are;

GAJ, Priddis, Selwood and another premium. Leaning towards Mundy, Thompson or Watson. The remainder will be rookies.

Cooney tore the intra-club game to shreds today, still wouldn't pick him with his knee but food for thought. He is also training without knee tape for the first time since 08.

Am I wrong in thinking that Scully, Barlow and Gaff are really good value?

Gaff's average was really pushed down by the amount of games we played him as the sub.

Almost guaranteed, bar injury to be a permanent fixture in our midfield and can see him averaging around 90-100. Now one of the fittest at the club and is an absolute ball magnet, but with good disposal and kicks goals. Could be Dal Santo lite.

Scully and Barlow both had injury effected seasons, but Scully is reportedly tearing up the track for GWS.

Have no idea if my reasoning is sound or not??
