2013 Dreamteam/Supercoach Questions Thread

Just reading my new Adelaide 2013 Calendar and I am wondering will your Mr July 2013 be a good mid season trade in option for AFL Fantasy. I, for one, admire you giving him the lap of honour Tippett deserves from your club renowned for its business acumen.
He's been warned folks - if he keeps trolling hit the report button. In the meantime I'll go find my throwing book....

Danger costs too much for me in SC, there are a few better options I think. what do people think of Jack Viney as well? I was going to load 4 Rookies Viney, Mitchell, O'mera and Crouch.
Depends on how you look at it, Dangerfield averaged 142 SC over the past 7 games and if he can play to that sort of level he'll be very much worth it at a priced average of 118.7 SC.

Viney is in my side atm, has been training with the Melbourne side since last year and managed to play for the VFL side showing he's capable of playing against the bigger bodied players.

Hard to keep Danger out of Supercoach IMO, just has that ability to post massive scores with all of his inside work, I'm a little hesitant with DT though.

Crouch I'm not certain about, I can see him spending a lot of time in the green vest and a few games with Westies in his first season. Although I will watch the preseason cup with a keen eye. We just have a massive glut of hard nut, young midfielders pushing for a spot in the side, Crouch certainly has the most raw talent, but is also the youngest.

Brodie Smith could be an interesting one, I reckon he's in for a big year, especially if he moves into the midfield, although is at that awkward in-betweener price.

Viney and O'Meara are definites, top 5 talents in bottom 4 sides priced so cheaply just cannot be ignored.

Don't quite understand the interest in Wright, I like the guy, but I can't see him really improving in terms of DT/SC score. I would think he may be spending more time in the forward line with the presumed inclusions of Crouch and Smith into the midfield rotation. Smith might be someone to consider if he really gets a go in the midfield. Does anyone know if he's a dual position player?

Agreed on both accounts regarding Dangerfield. I must say I was a little keener on him a while back in DT after the final 7 games where he was averaging 120.7 DT, that said, during that time he was also averaging 2 goals a game with 30 touches. Whilst I believe it's possible he could maintain a season average of around 30 touches a game, I find it hard to see him averaging 2 goals a game (44 for the season) thus finding it unlikely he'd be able to average 120 odd DT which would be ideal.

I'm a bit more confident about Crouch at this stage as everyone has talked him up for being in the side come round 1 as such (although you don't really get players/coaches talking players down). I can also see him getting the green vest a bit but that seems to be an issue we'll have with most rookies.

Brodie Smith is always an interesting prospect because if he's given the right role in the midfield/on the wing he could certainly improve his numbers to a keeper status in DT however I'm slightly worried that he'll be used to play that shut down role from time to time against guys like Goodes who really tore us apart with Smith being the only one in our side that appeared to be a good match up (with height and the capability of running with him).

I guess the interest in Wright is he didn't start the season in the midfield but instead worked his way into that role where it was quite noticeable he was playing better (which shows in his scores in both comps). For example, from round 10 to the end of the season (13 games) he was averaging 91/93.2 DT/SC where he's priced at an average of 85/89 DT/SC which suggests he holds a bit of value along with those sort of numbers which would be pretty close to a premium level in the forward line. That said, if you believe he'll be spending more time in the forward line then he won't be worth picking but from what I saw of him towards the end of the season (stand out game against Freo) it's hard to see him being pushed out of the midfield personally.

Smith only has back status however dual position players won't hold the same 'value' as such as they have in the past couple of years with the new rule addition to the bye rounds where it's now just your top 18 scorers rather than needing to field 22 players each week (meaning it doesn't matter where the 18 scores are coming from in your team). Of course it adds plenty of flexibility during the season which is handy to have, but it won't play any part during the byes anymore.

AFC is a tough side to crack, I am reading a lot of support for Crouch. Do you seriously think he will be there for round 1? That would mean he is ahead of Kerridge too then in your depth.
Crouch is our highest rated recruit since McLeod & D. Jarman arrived at the club. Kerridge is a mid-2nd round draft pick from 12 months ago. It's not hard to work out why the club would be eager to fast track the development of Crouch, while the likes of Kerridge have to force their way into the team by doing things the hard way.

This is just a general question about DT/SC:

I've been playing DT for 3 or 4 years now, but am hardly a die-hard. I've noticed a lot of of people are already getting ready for season 2013 and was just wondering what kind of preparation you like to do before the real stuff begins?

I would really like to be more prepared this year as I may be playing in a few different comps. Any tips would be appreciated. :):thumbsu:

I like to check out most team boards and read the training reports to see how guys who got injured early last year (potential bargain players eg Ball, Embley, Rischitelli etc). Whether they're in the restricted group or looking back to their best along with keeping an eye out for other players that seem to be standing out (although every player usually is on their own team board). Same thing applies for players that have swapped clubs and how a move to a new club could mean a beneficial role for them or the role they left opening it up to another player at their previous club.

You're able to start up a pre season side at fanfooty using the fanplanner which is always a nice way to get a feel of what your side would look like. I wouldn't worry much about the rookies at this stage as they tend to pick themselves after the pre season games when we get a clear idea of who looks likely to be playing in their sides come round 1 etc.

Fantasy Football Club is better :thumbsu:
So I just read there that there will be 2 trades a week in dream team next year? Is SC doing that also, I like SC way more but that change would suckballs.
Also I am back on the Dangerfield 2013 train.
Does anyone think that Hartigan might get a game, he would be a very use full cheap selection if he can get on the ground early.

There are a lot of differences this year

Dreamteam (now known as AFL Fantasy) has 2 trades per week & no rolling lockout

Supercoach has upped it's trade limit to 30 trades & is incorporating rolling lockout for the first time

They have both changed the starting squad dynamics, you have 6 forwards, 2 rucks, 8 midfielders & 6 defenders.

Both are allowing 4 emergencies to be set each week

Also during bye weeks (rounds 11-13) only your best 18 scores count.

Hope that helps those who haven't been reading up on it yet

I was thinking of the same four, though perhaps with someone like Hrovat over Mitchell; as despite being a highly rated talent and NEAFL jet, he has to break into a premiership midfield. I'll keep him there though if he had a really good NAB cup.

Like other have said dreamteamtalk.com is a good bet.

Its funny though, because the three administrators of the site aren't really that knowledgeable, its the other diehard contributors with the best insight.

The 'My Team' posts give a good idea of who people are selecting in the comments - usually the more coherent and often someone posts, the more reliable they are.

However I'm not a huge believer in planning too much early because its a waste of a good summer and things change drastically in the pre-season in terms of injury and form.

I'll be considering picking Tex, Jacobs, Danger, Thommo, Crouch and Johnston

Crouch and Danger very likely.

I had Tex in, I necked him today though, I think this year with the likes of Big Cox and Nic Nat being DPP, makes it hard for me to spend big coin on a key forward, I'm skipping buddy as well.

Tell 'em he's dreamin. These are the three people who are actually paid by Virtual Sports to write stuff about DT and SC for Assistant Coach and Supercoach Gold (The extra content who have to pay for)...

Currently have Smith, Crouch and Jacobs in my team, how are these guys tracking in the pre season?

Also looking at Sloane and Walker.

Thanks.

Do you see Jacobs improving, maintaining or decreasing his 87 average in DT? Price is very tempting, cheaper than McEvoy and is reasonably consistent. Only 25 this year. Will the new ruck rules harm or benefit his DT scoring? IIRC he's a physical ruckman but not especially mobile ? Has a good draw early and throughout the season (not a cheap shot at you guys).
Do you see Graham pushing for selection soon too?

Yeah, I'm not sure there's a heap more improvement in Jacobs wrt his DT scores. He might push his score up into the early to mid 90's this year, but I doubt he'll rack up the 25-30 possession games required to hit the 100 average mark.

Jacobs is very much in the elite tap ruck mould, but only average in his ability to find the footy around the ground. His skills are great for a big man though.

Only chance Graham has of playing is if Jacobs goes down with injury and even then we might look to a guy like McKernan first...
