On Embley:

if our mids and small/med forwards are all available for selection, I think he is a genuine sub risk. But I consider it unlikely that we will have this full team to select from, and so he will play in the 21 each week.

Schofield Glass Butler
Hurn Mackenzie Waters
Rosa S. Selwood Gaff
Masten Darling Hill
LeCras Kennedy Cox

Naitanui Shuey Kerr

Wellingham Priddis A. Selwood
S: Embley

E: Cripps/McGinnity/Sheppard/Brennan/Nicoski/Dick/Smith

Out of that team potential sub options could be Rosa, Gaff, Masten, Wellinham. You could make a good argument against all four of these getting the vest. A. Selwood isn't an option as we always play 7 defenders (he would be replaced by Brennan or Smith).

He's in my DT at the moment though, but I may leave him out if we are full strength going into round 1. Out of those listed Wellingham is a chance to miss for round 1 (and Naitanui too who will be replaced by Lycett). Kerr recovering from injury but looking good.

the sub role last year at westcoast went to a junior or a returning from injury underdone experienced player
at the moment embley doesn't fall into either of those categories... walk up start in my opinion

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong mate, he's been a great pickup for you guys and no ill feelings from me. He does well in a good side, but when he's under pressure he can crumble a bit. In defense I think there'd be a bit too much pressure a bit too often. He's well and truly at home as a high forward and I think that's where he should stay.

yeh I would agree with this. IMO reality is hill is best suited to the role as he played it last year, only problem is if Le Cras returns to previous pre-injury form (lord i hope he does) than hill has little chance of making the team, don't need Le Cras AND hill in that role, so it makes sense he would work on building skills necessary to be useful in other roles in an attempt to keep a spot on the side.

either way things are lookign great for West coast :) with such a deep list and players constantly having to compete for their spot on the team.

You've spent far too much in the midfield. move a premo from the mid to defence. but no swan, pendlebury, ablett or cotchin? I wish you luck with that. Either you will be the luckiest dreamteamer ever, or you will be very disappointed by midseason with this tactics.

Jed Adcock just said on AFL 360 that Docherty is a chance to slot into the backline 4 his debut sometime during the season. Not good news for AFL Fantasy

Why is that bad news for DT? He thinks he will play this year...he wouldn't know what the coaches & MC are going to do as far as selections go. He could be playing Rd1 for all Adcock knows..

He did say "something a bit different". There is nothing wrong with people trying different setups.

With that setup is that you are basically sacrificing some potentially good rookie midfielders which could cause you all sorts of grief making money. You would probably struggle with 3 forward rookies as well with all forward rookies being so scarce at the moment. Downgrading one of the midfielders and bringing in either a forward premium or even a midpricer would be my move.

That midfield approach is very aggressive. Selwood, Greene, Fyfe, Shuey and Ward all have the potential to possibly become premiums but it is highly unlikely that they will all boost their averages enough this year. End of the year you want the best players from each position. Starting without all of Ablett, Swan, Boyd, Watson and Pendlebury will mean a lot of work to bring them in later. It's easier to risk not having a couple of them to bring them in later but to go without them all will hurt your scoring too much.

For the record that backline is exactly the same as mine barring one player.

Do TAC Cup/state league figures usually mean much going into the AFL? For example, if someone scores an average of 55 in their state league and someone else scores an average of 100+, providing that they're both able to cement their spot in the AFL would the second be the better choice nine times out of ten?

Yeah I just wanted to see what everyone thought of the different structure. A few people on this thread seem to be getting a bit aggresive at each other. Not sure why.:D

Anyway I'm going with a fairly standard team in DT (3-5, 5-5, 1-1-2, 4-1-3) but I'm going to use a similar set up in Supercoach, where I muck around a bit more.

I just found that last year my midfield worked out quite well with a 5-3 set up. Ussually there's one rookie mid that smashes it for the first half of the season or so (Barlow, Curnow, Greene) so if you go with a loaded midfield + that one rookie you can have a midfield with 6 guys knocking out 100 each week (8 players with this years changes). Last year the Ablett, Pendlebury, Thompson, Selwood, Cotchin, Greene set up worked well.

I like having as many (good) rookie forwards and backs as possible because premium forwards and backs are much easier to upgrade to due to their lower price and greater inconsistency. You can start upgrading a round or so earlier. This year there aren't very many good forward rookies so my actual team at this stage is loaded up on forwards.

Just curious to know if anyone else has tried something like this before and if they had any success?

Sup guys - would love long time some feedback on my initial team?? thx!! xoox

Like Team One better because I believe in having a very strong starting midfield and gaining a jump on the competition with 6 guns racking up early points.
Only change I would suggest is putting in Neade from Port Adel instead of A Kennedy (Who is he??) Also Terlich instead of Siggins (again someone I have never heard of)
Pretty sure your fwd bench players are also weak, so look out through NAB Cup for who can replace those guys...maybe Lee & Kerridge

Is Chris Knights really in Richmonds 24? I wouldn't say his a certainty to play each round, he struggled last year at Adelaide with the same problem.
