I'd like to see Graham, Joyce, Thompson & Jaensch delisted but I think Joyce, Callinan, Riley & Tambling will go. I wonder if we will keep anyone without a contract at the moment & delist someone with still a year to go of their contract ?

How so?

Where have we so significantly improved our list?

Our list is nowhere near the top 7 sides (Hawks, Geelong, Freo, Sydney).

Richmond/Essendon/Collingwood are all much better placed than us.

It will be a fight between North, Carlton, Port, West Coast and us for that 8th spot. We will need a very very favourable draw and injury count to finish in the 8.

The Crows played poorly last year compared to 2012.

Admittedly, we lost our key forwards. Next year, our forward line will be stronger.

If we can get the form back from 2012, we should make the 8.

The players that got us there in 2012 are mostly still there, and there is plenty of room for improvement from our 19 - 25 year olds.

I'm confident the Crows will get there.

We didn't achieve all our goals in trade, but we did improve, and should improve from within.

Chin up ;)

Did anyone happen to catch the AFL websites trade wrap?

Curious of what they said about the Crows trade period from an outsiders POV.

I think their comments were positive.....not overly but never the less positive. They took into account that we had nothing to start with and gave us a C. Port got a B- which for all intense purposes is about the same. This despite the Power getting Polec. They did however like the Power selecting White....which I do too. Further on when they were rating Melbourne they said that Melb paid too much for Vince. They made the comment that Vince was past his best and that Adelaide would have been happy to get pick 23 for him.

Port didn't really improve on any areas of weakness though, they just got more of what they already have. Nothing wrong with that as it provides good depth, but they are still lacking on another KPF to compliment Schulz, and another decent KPD to put pressure on Carlisle and Trengove. I'm surprised they didn't go after someone like Gumbleton.

Adelaide addressed a couple of needs, and missed out on another with not getting Polec.

I think it depends more on finding form than our list. Our best 22 are clearly good enough. They just have to get themselves playing consistent footy

Not seeing Johncock on many "to-delist" lists. Also, where is the official release suggesting Hartigan will be promoted? Not saying there isn't one, but just haven't seen one around.
  • An AFL primary is 40 players maximum. Adelaide has 40.
  • Johncock has retired and Vince has been traded, so they are off the primary list: 40-2=38.
  • Betts and Podsiadly have been traded in: 38+2=40.
  • AFL rules require a club to have a minimum of 3 National Draft picks (rookie upgrades count). Our 40 must be cut to 37 (3 delisted minimum) to have 3 picks.
  • 2013 rookie Laird already has a contract as a senior list player - so he is one of the 3 - pick 82. (38 listed, 2 to go)
  • AFC list manager Noble said today that AFC will use picks 23 and 46 actively in the National Draft - that doesn't exclude Hartigan, but the suggestion was the picks would be used on 2 kids from the draft (Takes us up to our 40 again).
  • Earlier in the season Sando, at a Press Conference, said that Laird and Hartigan were as good as kids in the first or second round of the draft. Based on that comment, now we know Laird will be upgraded there is a feeling that Hartigan is a good chance too. (List up to 41).
  • So if Hartigan is to be upgraded a 4th player currently on our senior list has to go. (41-1=40. On the money :D).
We will know before the draft, by 31st October at the latest, because the list-space has to actually exist for a draft selection to be made - AFL rules don't allow a club to draft in extras and then delist.
3 delistings means Hartigan stays a rookie OR we only take 1 kid.
4 delistings means that we take 2 kids AND Hartigan is upgraded.

Of course, if at the National Draft we pass with only 39 places on our list filled, it means we are planning to take someone in the Pre-Season Draft. Or that we will play 2014 with a short list, but that won't happen.

Don't see it necessary to promote Hartigan when he has only played 3 average games

Pulling you up on that one point - he explicitly said they had not yet decided whether to go with one live pick or two, and would sit down to discuss that next week.

Did we make any trades today?

Ha ha ha who am I kidding, of course we didn't.

We are the best side ever after all.

Wow that was quick, thought Noble was holding off till next week!

The two that were definitely gone, what happens next now depends on what McKernan does, and whether we decide to only go into the draft with one or two live picks. Tambling and Riley on the edge.

McKernan - 1 pick
McKernan + Tambling/Riley - 2 picks
Tambling/Riley - 1 pick
Tambling + Riley - 2 picks

Personally I think Riley is closer to the edge, Tambling at least covers a need as a back up outside runner. Riley has almost the entire midfield group between him and a game.

Would be very rough on Riley who was looking good before the leg injury. But Riley/Martin/Tambling/Luke Thompson/Jaensch all potentially on the chopping block.

I put this scenario to you. There was a window of opportunity that we missed, Polec's management were happy with our deal (you ever wonder why FAITH was so confident). It all went to shit when it became clear we could never satisfy Brisbane in a trade. He stated (through his management) that he was not prepared to go to the PSD so negotiations with Poort were intensified. By the end of week 1 of trade month the Poort deal was clearly the most attractive.

Now don't say Bullshit (or poppycock) because you really dont have a clue if Im right or wrong.

Sounds like pure fantasy to me, not a single bit of it is supported by what happened in public. Apply Occam's razor.

I would normally not do this but, I copped a bit over it, so I will.

Rob Kerr was on SEN a little while ago talking about all of the trades they had to do. In regard to Polec he said (nearly word for word), 'Jared had no preference whatsoever, he just wanted to go to Adelaide. His management panicked a bit when it starting looking like it was going to be difficult to get a deal done. He encouraged Jared to nominate a club in an effort to try and force a deal along, but that didn't really turn out to be that helpful. Sometimes these managers aren't really much help.'
