I was able to watch the GF for the first time in four years. Congratulations to Hawthorn, but couldn't they have made it a bit closer? I almost nodded off in the last quarter. Of course, it was after 2am here.:p

The first Grand Final I went to was in 1976 with a win to Hawthorn. I will never forgive the Hawks for the 1985 PF. Never. And especially Leigh Matthews. Never.:D

The media hype for Sydney was unrealistic and similar to Fremantle in 2013. It was Hawthorn's only week of the season where they had an opportunity to pick a team from a full compliment of fit and able players. It is incredible how the majority of football followers could just ignore hawthorn's percentage, narrow losses playing contenders with box hill regulars, and also turning a 23 point deficit against Sydney with many missing players into a 22 point win in a burst of football. Since our disappointing 2012 GF, we have smashed Sydney in home and away and finals. Hawthorn had unfinished business. Today evened the ledger. Proudest and easily the most consistent sporting organisation in the country since 1960. "On the big stage the big boys come to play" - that's our motto.

Not the same sheer talent as goodes or ablett. However very tough and an excellent leader. No nonsense footballer. I view him as a captain and leader who performs at his best in the biggest games.
a better kick than Goodes and Ablett his whole career easily.

What a day, what a victory. You can't buy heart and you can't buy guts.

Where are Xtreme and the other Hawk so-called supporters who berated Clarkson and the coaching panel for their 'disgraceful / desperate' selection of Rioli before the game? Time to come back here and eat some much-deserved humble pie.

Turning on your own supporters? Asking your own loyal fans to eat humble pie... are you serious? Just enjoy an incredible performance by the hawks in one of the most comprehensive emphatic grand final wins in recent memory.

Surely no need for that? Not sure Rioli was that much of an influence in the win anyway. He seemed a minor part of a supreme team performance led by your midfield obliteration.

One thing is for sure, Clarkson had to go be one of the greatest coaches and tacticians of the modern era (at a minimum)

Judd was cut down by OP in his prime but has still managed to be a decent player in the second half of his career, pretty good effort.

Hodge is never going to be held in higher regard than Judd as a footballer. But equally you will never meet a Hawks supporter in your life who wishes the Hawks didn't take Hodge.

Judd as an overall is the more complete footballer, hard to say otherwise. If given the chance though, who would you pick in your team first? Hodgey brings so much more than just football ability.

Both legends.

I ate my words in the Hawthorn sub forum and several times in the main game day thread here and also the Hawks board. I fell victim to the Sydney hype , I am aware that I look like a silly sausage as a result (still felt that carrying a player that could be easily injured again leaving the team down a player was a huge gamble that could have blown up).

Just gone to half time in my second replay of the match, Hawthorn are a huge chance to win here :D

Bloke I feel sorriest for is Eddie Mcguire, had his whole show planned for Monday morning was going to go to war over COLA and how it is destroying the game how a team can basically buy themselves a flag.

Now he will have to find another windmill to rail against, what will it be? The Beams compensation?
No need to feel sorry for Ed. He can temporarily move on from COLA, and justifiably highlight the unfair advantage the Cats get by being allowed to play 7 games at Skilled every season. No other Victorian club gets such a free kick every year as the Cats do.

Once he's managed to overturn that travesty,he can then easily return to COLA. So no tears for Eddie please.

This and the main game day thread are priceless. I think I'm going to spew from laughing so hard.

I am planning to watch the game again with the main gameday thread scrolling at the same pace and laughing even more. Some of the delusional crap in there is priceless.

Exactly right, the whole debate is very tiresome and stupid. They both bring different qualities to their teams and each side wouldn't swap for the other, that's a great sign of how good both are.

Anyway, congrats to Hawthorn... what an awesome performance in such a difficult year. Great club, culture and the benchmark for the competition in probably all aspects of what each club should be striving for.

Eddie will probably have a go at Sydney's academy and Isaac Heeney instead.

Well done to the Hawks SMS going nuts making plenty of mates happy that was a real porno treating Sydney like a scrawny 18 y.o on crack.

Onlydownside for Hawthorn this time next year Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Lake, Burgoyne, Gibson will be 31 yo +

I'm sure I heard the same thing last year - x players are 30 Hawks will struggle to be the same next year etc. Age is BS, it's more on the players bodies and mind than a number. Lewis is also 29 next year BTW, and only player who has a truly suspect body is Lake with an ongoing knee problem. The rest will be managed though the season if needed.

There have been a few younger players given a run this season through injuries and many future players at Box Hill who will get blooded next year to replace some of these guys in the next couple of years. Plus Hawks may get Frawley who would thrive in our backline structure.

Our planning is meticulous and extremely well planned, which will no doubt give the club a good shot at emulating the Lions effort in the early 00's.

Make no mistake it will catchup to us. Just like it did with the Cats. I see us about 2-3 years behind the Cats. Our premiership window is still open but with age and the emergence if other clubs like port, we will see a drop. But not massive.
