Have to agree. The award 99% of the time goes to a midfielder, and hasn't been won by a ruck/fwd since like the early 90s.

I don't believe it always accurately reflects the best player of the year. But it is an award, and it is what it is.
Goodes' first Brownlow was as a ruckman

My updated opinion is as follows:
Joel Selwood has a chance to claim his first brownlow after being pipped at the post by gary Ablett last year. However, I think he needs to poll very well (4 or more votes) in his last 2 matches to be a chance.
Kennedy and pendlebury's injuries open the door for a very very interesting Brownlow night. Heppell, Beams and Priddis have come right back into contention over the last few weeks, but after his injury, I think beams is out of the race. So I think we have a few serious contenders (in no particular order):
Selwood
Pendlebury
Heppell
Priddis
JP Kennedy

And a few outside chances:
Ablett
Franklin (unlikely because of having Kennedy in the team)
Cotchin (has dragged his team over the line a couple of times)

Selwood a good chance to poll 4 votes very good record vs hawks could see 30+ 2goals it could all come down to Rockliff v Selwood in the last round at KP

With Fyfe being offered two it might simultaneously put to bed the controversy over his head-clash suspension earlier this year, and the possibility of him finishing with the most votes.

Joel Selwood 3.00
Nathan Fyfe 3.50 (ineligible column)
Gary Ablett 4.00
Josh Kennedy (Syd) 9.00
Scott Pendlebury 9.00
Dyson Heppell 9.00
Matt Priddis 10.00

imo Selwood, JPK and Pendlebury would all be deserving first-time winners and I don't think anyone outside those and Gazza has a chance. Heppell's been good but probably a shade behind those three. If Priddis somehow gets it I would laugh my arse off so hard. Won't happen, surely, but still...

Lewis is great value. Had an unbelievable year in a side that has won a lot of games. Only midfielders get votes and outside Lewis hawthorns best this year have been forwards roughead breust and gunston. They won't poll. Mitchell has missed half the season. Half the hawks side missed a lot of games but not Lewis.

Exactly what I was thinking. Didn't he get 44 disposals on the weekend as well?
